After my last post about dressage, I had to smile when I came upon this article, because I realized I’m not the only one who would choose to watch Eventing over Dressage:
“LONDON — Equestrian Cross-Country can best be described as the Olympics' profuse apology for Dressage.
"Sorry for that horse ballet the other day; now watch 'em jump off a grassy cliff."
Greenwich Park offered 28 different obstacles over 3.6 miles for riders that had walked the course and their steeds who hadn't. Each one was tailored to a different landmark, the majority of them in London. Some are large hedges. Some involve a dip into water.
All of them have some element of inherent danger , which is one reason the park expected about 50,000 spectators on a Monday afternoon.”
Dressage or Cross Country Eventing?

Oh man, I missed it?? Those obstacles were beautiful and scary! The competitor in this photo looks like he's wearing lederhosen, which fits so perfectly into the spirit of the course, too. Referring to your earlier post, I actually like the formal show-jumping and dressage outfits. I'd rather watch any of the 3-day events rather than a horse race, any day of the week.
But...what I really wanted to say was: omigosh, those Arabians are sooooo beautiful! I don't care what they're wearing, lol.
I would prefer dressage over eventing. Dressage is a showcase of rider and horse cooperation.

I've gotta agree. Dressage just doesn't do anything for me. It looks so tight and restrictive. I love the western except for western pleasure - again a little too uptight.
If you would, hop over to my blog and help me out with a horse question if you will. I need HELP!
Thanks,
Berte
I like the manuvers that dressage riders do, but I prefer the relaxed riding of western better, I don't have to look pretty.
Oooooh, eventing! Eventing for sure! I had to DVR some of the showing--I noted that they were on at 4am. I guess people like gymnasts and swimmers more than equestrians, sigh.
