We have several chickens that are extremely friendly and sociable. To even get one foot into the coop gate, we have to gently scoot feathery bodies out of the way. Even when they hear us walking about nearby, they run to wherever they can see us better and call out to us in that adorable chicken clucking and muttering.
But we have two chickens that are even more tame then the others, our Speckled Sussex, which are not only gorgeous chickens, but are also very calm and curious about everything, basically fearless. Not so good on a farm where they would be expected to free-range, I would guess, but as egg-laying, 4H-showing, kid-friendly farm pets they are perfect.
One of our Speckled Sussex, whom my 4 yr old daughter named Kipper, seems to have morphed into some kind of puppy creature and follows us wherever we go when we are inside the coop. And she actively searches for me if she can't find me.
When I bring my chair and cup of tea out to the coop to relax and meditate chickens, she always either kushes under my chair or hops into my lap. She's a real sweetie.
And here are a few pics of Kipper:

Kipper's still waiting patiently

I'll have to remember the speckled sussex, it sounds like a perfect chicken for us.
Thanks Christy. I love all of my chickens. But in hindsite, if I had to choose from all of the breeds and only pick one, I'd absolutely pick the Speckled Suzzex for my entire flock.
But diversity is the spice of life, isn't it?
