Chicken Coop Addition

Last week I decided to make a new purchase to help make my life easier in feeding my chickens. I bought an automatic dog feeder because I was filling up the metal chicken feed trays twice a day and they were just knocking it over, getting bedding in it and pooping on the food, too.
I chose the dog feeder because I liked it better over those huge metal chicken feeders our feed store has for sale. With 13 hens the henhouse gets tight at night and I want to provide as much space for them to move about as possible.
And I also like that the dog feeder has a tight fitting lid and holds a lot of feed, but it's also very lightweight.I did learn one thing and had to make a little adjustment, which was to place a box around the feeder. The girls will scratch and peck the feed out of the plastic dog feeder dish, which causes much wasted food. The box provides a place for the food to fall into, and all I have to do every couple days, is just pour whatever food is still left inside the box, back into the dog feeder. So far I am very happy with this new 'make-my-life-easier' addition.

Just a picture of the coop and one of my chairs I like to sit and get into my 'Chicken Zen'.
And check out my pretty girls!

You are SO clever. I'm dealing with tons of wasted chick starter right now because I can't seem to raise their mini feeders high enough to keep their pointy little feet out of them. :-) I've got their water on top of two bricks now, too, in my efforts to keep the water clean and poop-free.
I finally managed this morning to get to some of your earliest postings about your chicks in 2007. I had to laugh because our posts look so similar...the things we're delighting in and remarking on are the same! I just love my girls...love, love, LOVE them! :-)
I've only gotten to the part where your girls are about 3 or 4 weeks old, so I've still got a lot of reading ahead of me! :-)
