Egg Not Ready Yet

This little blob is an underdeveloped egg laid by one of our pullets 2 weeks ago. It was this pullet's first attempt at egg laying. Needless to say, she wasn't quite ready. The egg basically slipped out of her body as she walked by. And I picked it up and photographed it. The 'egg' reminded me of the type laid by alligators or turtles, soft and with a flimsy shell. There was no real yolk either, only a watery yellowish fluid inside. (Click pic for a larger view)

I agree. But you know what is really fascinating about this situation? The same pullet that laid that underdeveloped egg is now laying double yolk eggs!

By the way, a few posts back, I set up the video of our noisy hens in a newer post, because the earlier one didn't work for you. So, if you have a few seconds, I'd love it if you could check the new one out and let me know if that one works, ok?

Hey there! I just, purely coicidentally, happened to come back to this comment section (sometimes blogger won't give me the option to check the little box to receive follow-up comments by email - and it didn't for this post) and I saw your comment to me! So...I just went back and tried the video..I was excited, too...but...sigh. It didn't work. In fact, it still says YouTube in the lower right hand corner, just like before. Should it? And it gives me the exact same message "sorry this video is no longer available." Let me know if you want me to test again. (I'm noticing there's no little box for follow-up comments again, so send me a smoke signal or something) :-)

hi farmgirl,

I give up on the videos. I must be doing something wrong and then it takes so so so long to upload it. It's just too much trouble. I think I'll just stick to photos for now.
But thanks for offering to check it again for me.
