Cast:
Petruchio: My wonderful neighbor friend, Val
Katherina: Baby Doll, the beautiful painted mare
The rehabilitated, back-on-the-wagon Drunkard: Me
Petruchio's lovely Arabian Mare: Fantastyk Gal (Annie)
Not long after Petruchio's gentle, yet firm, equine taming session, the Drunkard decided it was a grand afternoon to saddle up Katherina and see if she was less stubborn and more compliant when out for a beautiful trail ride.
The Drunkard rode Katherina among, through, and around the trees and bushes in the pasture. Katherina was only wearing her Dr. Cook's Bitless Bridle, yet she gave her head willingly and was quick to follow through in any requests given from the Drunkard.
As the Drunkard and Katherina strolled among the trees, they spied Petruchio, riding along the country lane, on her beautiful white Arabian mare, Nadia.
When Petruchio asked the Drunkard if she'd like to come over for a ride, Katherina and the Drunkard happily agreed.
Petruchio changed mounts and rode out on her lovely Arabian mare, Fantastyk Gal (Annie). The four of them rode around the arena, over a log, around barrels, and circling poles.
As the beautiful New Mexico sun was setting, Petruchio suggested that a trail ride would be a wonderful way to end the day. It was time to truly test if Katherina's taming had been successful.
So off they went.
Petruchio has been able to take the lovely, yet spirited Fantastyk Gal out on the trails only a handful of times over this past year. The biggest roadblock has been having someone to ride with her and Fantastyk Gal. Someone with a calm, experienced, non-spooky, level-headed horse to help relax the spirited Arabian while out on the trails. The beautiful Katherina did her best at fulfilling this role on this day.

But best of all, was how Katherina refrained from stealing her head, and even when the green grass beckoned, a firm, but kind reminder from the Drunkard on her back, caused her to move on. The Piece de Resistance happened when the barn was straight ahead and Katherina looked longingly and leaned toward the direction of her home, but willingly accepted the Drunkard's request to travel down a different path in the opposite way.
No tugging, no circling, no head tossing, no balking and no ears folded tightly back against her lovely equine head. Katherina was the picture of obedience, acceptance, and calm.

"The happy, yet sober, Drunkard"
HYSTERICAL!
Yay!!!!! Lets hope that Baby Doll is just really smart and has been (past tense!) taking advantage of you.
Again...you really are fortunate to have found Val. You and Baby Doll can focus on moving forward now. :)
Lovely story! I love a happy ending.
Cute tale! ;)
Sounds like some progress has been made with your doll. I am glad you were able to go out and enjoy a safe evening ride!! You are lucky to have such a fabulous and helpful neighbor!
Yay!! Very happy to hear about your progress :) (well Baby Doll's progress)
I love a happy ending. How much more pleasant it is for everyone when a horse isn't constantly tugging and pulling on the bit, hmm?
Wonderful ending. Sounds like you have a great neighbor as well as a great horse now.
Hooray, I love a happy ending!! I am glad Babby Doll is doing so well. Sometimes it's just some good old riding that can make all the difference. Loved your story!!
Hooray! I'm so glad it's working out. Happy trails to you!!!
Awww...*snifffff*...that was beatiful!
Haha, I'm glad Baby Doll is behaving again--yey!!!!!!!!
Loved your story even though I am not a horse person. (they all seem to hate me) But I do love Shakespeare. How wonderful for you that your story has such a happy ending. I have but 1 question...did the Drunkard fall off the wagon in celebration once she was back inside her house???
Yay for Baby Doll and the rehabilitated Drunkard! She does look nice and calm in those pictures.
Thanks NM :)
haha Grey Wolf,
No, but that's not for lack of trying! hehe
Awwww, thanks Mell :)
CeeCee,
I appreciate the Happy Trails wish.
Thank you Andrea. I think you're right.
EggHead,
Thanks. Time will tell. You know horses always have their 'issues' :)
Oh yes, Carolynn. I do agree.
Michelle,
I can be such a riot, can't I? Life just makes it too easy, don't you think?
Melanie,
I sure hope so. Thanks again :)
Hi Christy,
Thanks. Me, too!
Thank you Pony Girl. :)
CDN Cowgirl,
I appreciate that. Thanks again :)
Oh YEA! Just what I was hoping I would come to if I kept reading! And yes, you are truly blessed to have a horsey neighbor friend, even though I love to ride solo. Don't have much chance anymore, though, since Brian doesn't want to ride and I can't leave him at home alone. That's what our little sand arena is for, but I miss the road and trail rides....
