M~is for Muck Boots and Meme

Today's post is one about something that doesn't get much focus. They get tramped around in poop, crud, mud, and other icky stuff. As long as they keep our feet dry and clean, we're happy. They work hard and they have to be tough.
Today's post is about footwear, specifically Muck Boots.

Last Spring I got bored with my plain brown muck boots. I wanted to have some fun. The chore of standing in mud and poop is much improved when wearing bright colorful boots. I bought these from Target online and they make me happy and keep my feet comfy, too.

I also have a wild, naughty-side and bought these boots, too. Also from Target. Aren't they cute?!

And then I saw these adorable, bright boots, and I knew if I wore them, scooping manure and squashing through mud, would always be a little bit brighter and cheery.(Or is that Cherry?) So I had to have them, too. Are they fun, or what?

And see? It's true. Even with poo on my flowery fun boots, they still make you smile. (Go on. Admit it. lol!) And yes, I'm wearing jammies.

I knew you might want a closer view of my jammies, so here ya go. What do you wear to the barn?
These are probably my favorite muck boots. I know, I know. They're boring black. But they're clogs, so they easily slip on and off quickly, so I can run out to feed chickens, gather eggs, and run up to the barn. They're not so great for serious mucking with the open heel, though. And when I first bought them (also from Target online) my entire family called them "Mama's Fart Shoes" because these rubbery shoes farted at each step I took. I sort of miss that sound, as a matter of fact. Nothing like a fart sound to make you laugh!

Now that I have shown you mine, you can show me yours. lol!
And I've got a little goodie for you, if you choose to participate. Just do a blog post about your muck boots and share a photo of them, and let me know in the comments section, that you're participating, so I can see your muck boots, too. Doesn't matter if your muck boots aren't fancy. If you use 'em, they count!
And, if you don't wear muck boots, and instead wear cowgirl boots, or something else to take care of your critters, then those count, too.
You'll get to choose from one of these two hand-made stickers to proudly display on your blog. (Don't I make it sound so exciting? hehe)

You can choose from this cute sticker:
Or this stylish one:
So, let's see your muck boots!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mikey over at The Horseshoeing Housewife and Jamie at Seatbelt for my Saddle both tagged me for the 6 Things About Me Meme. So here it is:
1)I hate to dress up or wear anything fru-fru. I would love to be in my jammies all day if I could. I wear them to the barn and I'd probably wear them to ride, too.
My clothes are usually chosen without too much thought most days. Comfort is my main focus. I'm sure I'd be an excellent contendor for "What Not To Wear" lol!
2)I've always loved horses, but was also afraid of them. I still feel pangs of anxiety when I'm tacking up my horse or when she tests me out on the trail. It's been very liberating for me, as a pacifist, to learn to reach deep inside for courage while demanding respect from my horse.
(Oh. And I bought a little saddle flask for myself, for Christmas...just to take the edge off. lol! What do you suggest I fill it with?)
3)I have gourmet taste in food. And love to cook ethnic food, especially East Indian. I also enjoy trying out exotic recipes, but my family usually turns their noses up at anything that isn't the same old-same old. They only recognize salt and pepper as approved spices. sigh.
4)I want to get a tattoo, but can't make up my mind on a final design. And I'd rather go with someone who's already gotten tattoos or with someone who's getting
their first one. I think it would be more fun and I could use the support.
(Maybe I should bring along my flask?? lol!)
5)I treasure handmade gifts much more than storebought. I have a thing for quilts, handmade bags, soaps, and anything creatively made by hand. I'm always touched by gifts given to me by people who know my interests and my heart. And I especially love gifts that make me laugh. Like this hilarious "Pay It Forward" gift package that Gail over At The Farm sent me.
The gift was so funny because it had alot to do with this post: 'Count the Cats'. When I opened the package Gail had sent I immediately 'got it' and couldn't stop laughing. She apparently had a "herd dispersal adoption clinic", and I was one of her recipients. lol!
What a clever and creative gal she is!
And then Christy from Farm Dreams recently gifted me with these adorable hand-crocheted eggies. Aren't they the cutest?! The horse book was a gift, for my birthday, from my neighbor friend, Val of Fantastyk Voyage. And the horse hair inside belongs to my Baby Doll and her sweet Arabian mare, Nadia.
6)Finally, I'm very quirky and am interested in non-mainstream activities and ideals. I've never been a sheep. I like to walk my own path. I'm usually very open-minded and enjoy and respect differences of opinion, but I sometimes have strong opinions and get annoyed when I feel as if I'm not allowed to speak my mind.
I won't tag anyone else specifically because I think this has already made it's rounds. But if you'd like to participate, please let me know, as I love to learn more about my blogger buddies.
I'm working on my meme (oh hey, MEME) but its not ready yet.
I'm totally with you on number 1. In fact whenever I'm home I'm in my jammies (unless I have company over).
MEMORABLE MEME post!
LOL! I'm amazed! I never knew you had so many pairs of muck boots!!!
Mine have developed small cracks from wear, so I'm actually in the market for more. I like to wear crocs out to the barn in the summer, for feeding, not riding!
#2- I REALLY like peppermint schnapps!!!!It warms you up from the inside out. (hint hint)
#3- I enjoy curry, too.
Talk to me about #4. Trevor wants to be a tattoo artist- do you want to be his first customer? I'm sure he'd do it at VERY reduced rates!(wink wink)
#5- lol about the cats!
I didn't know you used the horse hair for bookmarks! We need to learn to braid it. Do you know 4-way plaits, by any chance? I have a whole bunch of tail hair just waiting...
Love the muck boot idea. I snapped pics tonight, but it’s too late to make a post. I will soon though!
Hehe, your muck boot post is very funny...I use real "muck boot" brand boots....but unfortunately, they are expensive, and aren't holding up as well as the ones I had last year :-/ I'll have to get new ones! lol
M is for Mee!!! Ok, fine Mellimaus...
Throughly enjoyed your post today!
My muck boots are boring camo. I prefer flip-flops except in the deepest muck. Of course, you read that post, I am always getting injured in FFs.
I, too, am a flannel lady. My nephew has visited so often, he thinks it is a holiday if I have on day clothes.
I like your opinions! Never feel guarded with me.
You make me laugh, you teach me things, you make me smile.
1, 3 and 6 are me too! Except my family likes adventuresome, spicy food. Most people are shocked by how spicy my son likes his food. He'll eat stuff most adults can't eat. I guess it really is what you grow up with. We really like Thai food here and eat it (made by me) at least once a week. I'll make sure we have some good spicy food when you come visit!
I love your muck books! Mine aren't plain but are boring compared to yours. I may have to hit Target online for some more fun ones. Logan will need some come spring too, right now he is wearing snow boots, which work because it has been cold here! I'll post a picture of my muck boots later today.
Our muck has been frozen lately, which is much better than Mushy muck!
Oh, a funny story about farting muck clogs. I was helping the egg lady work sheep on day, I think it was the first time and she was wearing those shoes. She kept "farting" and I was having a hard time not giggling. I finally figured out it was the shoes, I thought she must have had some lunch before I figured it out!
I never dreamed Muck boots could be so much fun! I would pick the cherry boots if I ever Mucked anymore:)
Love hand made gifts..from the heart..the best!
What MAGNIFICENT muck boots you have there!!! Around here they are called barn boots, but that is probably because it is "MUCKY" about eight months out of the year...lol!!!
Around my house I wear nothing fancy, but I do like to get dressed up and go out! You know...wear more than just my lipstick on my face and a t-shirt on my torso...lol??!!
Oooohhhh...I LOVE East Indian food, and regularly make dishes with curry in them. My kids are probably the only ones I know who will eat it! Thai food is great too!!
I have never wanted a tatoo, but I have always secretly wanted to get my tongue pierced...how sick is that??? LOL!! The older I get though, the less I want to do it...teeheehee!!
I don't have any magnificent muck boots. Mine are plain blue. I hardly wear them because usually when I go to clean stalls, I am usually going to ride too, and I don't want to change boots. So my cowboy boots get well used.
Love you're meme, especially #4 ;). You'll do it someday. I'm sure.
I blogged about my muck boots! Thanks for the inspiration! You can see pictures of mine, which are less fun than yours, on my blog. Hopefully I still qualify for a sticker though. I really like the leopard one best!
Wow, I just went to Target.com and now I'm completely flabbergasted at all the different boots. 6 pages worth of fun, sassy boots! How do I choose???
Love your fancy boots. We just have the old green Wellie types for muddy mucky jobs. The rest of the time I run out in whatever I can slip on. Oh, by the way your jammies are adorable.
We just have a pile of old sneakers in the tack room, but I always forget to put them on and ruin my good shoes. Thankfully, I haven't mucked out the stalls in my high heels yet though, because I kick those off the second I come home from the office.
My father gave my husband some fart slippers for Christmas one year. They've got this rubber tube trailing out the heel and fart like whoopie cushion each time you take a step.
M is for Manure. Too Much Manure.
Lisa hon, you can only wear one pair of muck boots at a time! I really like the orange ones, especially when combined with your PJ bottoms! LOL
I just recently got caught wearing my Sorel winter boots and my pink (PINK!) PJ bottoms while running out to check for eggs. The UPS guy pulled in the driveway just as I was coming back. Talk about deer in the headlights! I just smiled and waved at him. What are ya gonna do?
MARVELOUS, simply Marvelous.
I just might post about my muck boots.
For a tatoo, well it HAS to be either Baby Doll or an Orca.
Lisa, you are definitely a Muck Boot Diva....a Muck Boot Fashion Statement! I love all your variety....makes me want to run right out and get something different. I'll have to take pics of my variety (not nearly so artful as yours) of muckboots. Only true ranchers/farmers can really find muck boots so interesting they can blog about them! :)
I'm with you on all your 6 things except the fear of horses thing....though a few of my horses have managed to get the fear flowing in me. :)
I also have not been able to settle on a tatoo design....I had a friend say don't forget they fade after time...I told her well seeing as I'm 50 I don't think that's going to be much of an issue....now picking a place that won't sag might be a problem......:)
My muck boots have not been used in a year or so. We haven't had any rain and I no longer own a horse. That being said, they are buried in the work shoes/boots in the garage. Don't even know if I could get to them.
Handmade gifts are the best! Me too, me too.
Surprisingly I don't have muck boots. I have often though about getting them - but have always used my sorrels in conditions that I would've needed them.
So sadly I have nothing to show. Been thinking about getting a pair of those fancy ones - but it is another purchase that will have to wait.
Also - I WANT TO GET A TATOO TOO!
A friend of mine told me to get a tattoo while I was traveling because I will would be more special that way. Maybe some day during one of my trips to Arizona I will have take a side trip to see you and Mickey - the we could get a tat! And it would be special....
I never knew they made so many stylish muck boots...I've only got basic black. You're just cute!
I'd be puttin' Pendleton whiskey in that flask ;~)
M is for Man you have a lot of muck boots!! I love the stickers you made!!
And girl you have some fabulous pjs!! I wear flip flops and capris to the barn. I know, safe right!! LOL!! Most of the time I wear crocks. I did win a pair of muck boots at our rodeo club this past summer. But I haven't gotten them yet, I have to wai utnil the banquet. You boots are so much fun, I love them.
And I would have never thought you wanted a tattoo!! I almost got one in college, but I didn't. So, I guess I am a nerd, no tattoos here.
And I get really nervous to ride now too. It's silly because I used to be fearless. Then I had kids and I can't shake the fear.
I love your muck boots!! I'll have to check out Target on-line. I wore plain boring black rubber boots for a short while, but they obviously didn't fit properly because I developed a problem with the toenails on both of my big toes. Over a year later, they're still really sensitive to pressure. So, I switched to hiking boots with a thick sole. Not sure how long those will last, but they're working for now.
I love East Indian food, although I never know what I'm ordering off the menu, I always enjoy it. I've never attempted to prepare any myself because the recipes always look too daunting.
I used to be afraid of horses too. My stable hand job has been the most effective in helping me over come that. Although, I have to say, I had another run-in with a pony the other day. Literally took a chunk out of my fleece vest I was wearing. Damn! She just doesn't like me for some reason. I'm not sure what to do about that...any suggestions...? Anyone....?
