Silly Saturday~Dippin' Dots and Awards

A few days ago, we had a dusting of snow, but it was not really snow, it looked sort of like Dippin' Dots. Imagine this with a some colorful food coloring. Can you see it, too? Ok. Tell me I'm not crazy. lol! (And for those who don't know what Dippin' Dots are, they are basically ice cream in tiny individual pellet shapes. They are often sold at carnivals, fairs, sports events, the zoo, shopping malls, etc)

I'm so far behind in posting, thanking for and gifting out a few awards I've been given over the last 2 weeks.

The first award comes from my glamorous blog friend, Ms. Punchy Queen, Meg of Lucchese to Louis Vuitton.
And I choose the following lovely blogs to give this award to:
*Colleen
*Desert Horses
*Melanie
*Callie
*Farmer Jen
*Lytha
*White Lilly
____________________________

The very funny and awesomely wonderful Andrea of Swamp Suburbia, created this next award, and chose me to give it to. And then a little while afterwards, the ever interesting Mikael from Rising Rainbow gave this award to me, too.

Andrea tells me that the word 'Hamfattery' originated in the early 1880s from a song called The Hamfat Man. It was a black minstrel song about an awkward man. After that, people would use the term hamfatter when someone was trying too hard to be funny and not succeeding. That was ultimately shortened to the word ham. Very interesting!!
So, now we know! And now we have the Hamfatter Award! (And I'm just relieved it's not given only to fattery people, who've eaten too many cookies during the holidays. whew!)

This award is given to the blogs that make you laugh. The blogs that stand out and just make you smile and chuckle. The rules are easy and simple.
1. Blog about the Hamfatter award, tell where the name came from (you can copy and paste, that is what I did!!)
2. Post the Hamfatter Award Proudly on your blog!
3. Pick 5 blogs that just make you laugh and link to them in your post.
4. Link back to the person who gave you this hilarious Hamfatter Award.
5. Let your blogger friends know they were awarded a little something.
I now will bestow the Honorable Hamfatter Award on five blogs that just make me laugh. You guys are such Hams!! Thank you Andrea!

And I choose these 5 blog friends that always make me smile:
*Cing Spots
*Gail
*All Horse Stuff
*Yellow Jacket Ridge
*Goat Girl

Another award passed on to me from my sweet and always interesting Desert Hen is this Friendship Award. And this is what is said about the recipients given this award:
"These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."
And I choose:
*Kacy
*Melanie
*Gina
*Good Life in VA
*Fantastyk Voyager
*Nuzzling Muzzles
*Andrea
*Stephanie

And last but not least, my big-hearted friend over at Wilmoth Farms awarded me the Fabulous Blog Award. And for some reason it comes with the stipulation of listing 5 of your favorite addictions.

So here goes:
1)Blogging, of course!
2)Chocolate, especially brownies
3)Horse Riding and spending time with my horse and other animals
4)Letterboxing
5)Drinking Hot Tea
And I choose the following 5 bloggers to gift this award to:
*Pony Girl
*World of Ezra
*Esther Garvi
*Wrensong Farm
*Claire

And finally, I wanted to let my blogger friends know that if you think I've either given you the cold shoulder or lost my directions to your blogs, I truly haven't. I'm just a little bit slow in making my rounds to all of my favorite blogs. These Physical Therapy appointments are exhausting for me, and not just the work-out while I'm there, but all the effort into getting there and back home: butt crawling up and down two flights of stairs and hoisting myself into and out of the back seat of our van several times(my knee still won't bend enough for me to sit in the front seat yet) just wears me out. By the time I get home my left knee and entire leg is throbbing, my right leg is aching and shaking from having to do all the work, and my shoulders and arms are burning from lifting my large frame everywhere.

When I finally change clothes and slip back into bed, I pop my Tramadol and Flexiril, and then it's all I can do to just visit a couple blogs, try to leave a few comments, maybe watch a little TV, or thumb through a magazine. Then I'm toast! lol!

So, what I find works better for me is to go on blog binges. Basically, visit one blog and play catch up reading all of the posts I've missed at one time. Instead of a quickie visit from me, it's more of an extended stay. hehe

How do you keep up with your favorite blogs? Do you sometimes read several posts but just leave one comment for all of them? And do you ever skim through and read a post and then come back later to leave a comment. Do you tend to be a lurker and not leave comments at all? (Time for you lurkers to speak up now. lol!)

And finally, do you ever get the shakes when you discover yet another terrific new blog that you just have to add to your favorites?
How do you keep up?
I'm thinking I could really use an extra 8 hours every day, just to blog! lol!
How about you?

I have a hard time keeping up, but I don't think we're alone. I get to it as I can. What can I say? I have to work full time, eat, sleep, etc.

Hey Rapunzel!

I remember when Dear Husband was recovering from his knee surgery, and the PT..... it was a long, tough time in this corner of the world. Just know that we are all thinking of you, and pulling for a strong and speedy recovery girl, so you can get back in the saddle SOON!!!!

As to the blogs.... Keep up??? you are kidding, right? LOL.... Folks probably think I am ignoring them, since I hardly ever have time to comment on theirs.... but I DO read!! I use Following to go and read a bunch of blogs at one time. Just wish I could get the wordpress blogs I like on there as well! ;)

Have a great weekend!add

Hi, Lisa-aka-Rapunzle! Love the snow pictures. Hope you feel better soon. Physical therapy isn't much fun! And thanks for stopping by my blog during OWOH! :-)

TxFarmhouse said...

Isn't physical therapy a real pain in the butt and everywhere else on your body? They attempt you to put your left elbow in your right ear and scratch your back with your left foot...that'll get you everytime!

Blogging?...it can become an addiction just like good movies during the day. I don't much like daytime TV so that's not a problem but I do love to ready other's blogs. I try to visit and comment to many but the day is only so long to get everything done.

Suggestion- to take the boredom out of your knee exercises, try popping bubble wrap behind your knee when you're flexing. Or just sit and bed and pop the heck out it! It'll do a body good.
Take care!

Dear Lisa, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the lovely award! I didn't even see it until after I posted this morning! I always get up an extra hour early, post my blog, then go "visiting" all my other blog favorites! Sometimes I have to finish after school! I usually do leave a comment, but sometimes I just don't have time! Thank you again and get better soon! I usually fall asleep (pass out) about 8p.m. because I'm exhausted, too!

Joanna@BooneDocksWilcox said...

Your knee recovery sure is taking its time, I know its tough but hang in there.

Jocelyn said...

don't worry about keeping up !
Take it easy on yourself.

You've been through enough already..

You'll be back in the saddle before you know it!

Rural Writer said...

It's hard to do everything when you're feeling great, so don't beat yourself up that you can't manage with all the tough stuff of physical therapy happening in your life right now!

Nice awards!

Congratulations on all your awards! You deserve them. And I'm confident you will survive the PT - remember, Baby Doll is waiting for you at the end of it.

As for keeping up with blogs - I'm retired, so I spend much of my morning reading these wonderful life events and farm animal stories. I always start with my daughter's blog and go on from there. I haven't gotten the hang of "following" so I just zap sites into a blog folder in my favorites, and go down the list. Love you guys!!!

This is supposed to be my slow time of the year, but it seems I can never keep up with all the great blogs out there.
Glad you are working hard getting your knee back in shape, thinking of you.

Lisa, I can totally understand you not having the energy to keep up with blogging, I was the same when I was sick.
Sounds like you are doing really well, you must know we are all rooting for you and sending good thoughts your way.
In answer to your question, I have to limit my favorite blogs because working full time only leaves me a limited amount of time when I can visit my favorites. Even then sometimes a few days will go by before I get the time for it. Like you I wish I had more hours in the day :)

I've been having fun catching up on your posts that I missed while my computer was down.
It was especially fun to watch Zuni herding goats, and I do love the pictures of your son's kite!
It's good to read that your PT is coming along well although I'm sorry it's so long, difficult and discouraging.
Take care...and know that you're getting well..day by day..

Isn't it wonderful in your downtime the things you see that might have passed you by otherwise....like the clouds...the snow....there are small blessings in all we are given and the lesson to live and rejoice in the moment.

Wishing you well and good luck with your recovery. You are doing well girlfriend!

Great post and wonderful awards. I loved reading about the "hamfatter" and how the name came to be. Very interesting.

I never have enough time these days to read blogs....so I tend to pick one or two a day and play catch up by reading all that I have missed. I love blogging and blog reading...and I agree with you, a few extra hours in the day for just that would be wonderful...=D

Have a happy weekend.

I have a story for you. Its a true story and I hope it inspires you to keep up your PT.
There is a young guy who works for us (dishwasher) He's been with us a few months and I noticed from the start that he has a limp and one of his legs has a weird bend in it. Mitchell is very funny and personable. As I've gotten to know him I've discovered he is a very sweet kid, even though sometimes he's not quite "all there".
I love when Mitchell works, he always makes me laugh and even though he's not the speediest dishwasher we've had he is a good worker.
One day we were chatting and I asked him about his leg. I said that I was just curious and if it was too personal to just tell me to mind my own business. Also that I wasn't trying to be rude but, what happened to your leg? Did he have an accident? Was he born with something wrong?
He just smiled and told me it was okay to ask. He had been hit by a car a few years ago and broke both his legs. He hadn't just broked both legs, he'd broken both thigh bones (femur?).
I'm not sure if this is right but I had heard that is basically the most difficult bone in your body to break.
Mitchell has metal rods and pins in both of his legs. He said he knows he "walks funny" but he doesn't care. Because he was originally told he may not walk again ever.
He said that PT was hard, at times it was VERY painful, and recovery seemed to take forever. He said sometimes progress was sooo slow that he thought he wouldn't make any.
It took him a year of rehab and PT but now he walks.
I think part of what impressed me with his story is that he had the drive to go through all that (he is at that kinda a slacker age and group of teens) AND that he told this whole story with his typical warm smile and bright eyes.
Sorry this was so long, I just wanted to let you know that PT can be worth it and that I know that YOU are strong enough to make it through!
**hugs and much blog love**

Lisa-

I just read your comment on my blog, and it made me really worried about you. You blog is NOT boring, and I do NOT think that your posts are the rantings and ravings of a mad woman!!! Honestly!!!

You are just stuck in a bad place, and need some cheering up. Do you have any really good friends who can come over and cheer you up, or can you go for a car-ride somewhere scenic???? (Besides to your PT appopintments)

Hang in there Lisa!!! It WILL get better, but if you find that you are truly in a funk, and can't get out of it, maybe talk to your doctor. Remember that pain will make you feel depressed and sometimes that can turn into more than just a passing problem. Try to focus on the positive things about the situation that you find yourself in, not the negative things.

I have often thought about starting another blog to write about what is going on im my life, and Kacy (ALL Horse Stuff) has mentioned it as well. Maybe we should try it??? I am always scared to though, because sometimes I can hardly handle the one that I have...lol!!!

On another note...Thank you for the great awards!!! You really are one of the sweetest people ever.
And I don't think that I have mentioned that I love your valentine template either!!!
Oh, and as far as blogs go, I consistently leave comments when I visit someones blog (in case you haven't noticed...lol!!!), unless I run out of time. Then I will read it, and come back later to comment.

Chin-up sweetie!!! I am not going to let you get any more depressed than you are!!!! Remember...focus on the POSITIVE....

Lisa - You are great blogger, blog follower, commentator, and friend. You never need to worry about not visiting often enough. People understand that you have other concerns. I keep up with my favorite blogs through an RSS feed. If the post triggers a thought for me, I go to the site and leave a comment. Sometimes I lurk, because I like to read, but don't necessarily have a response. Sometimes I think about all the stupid comments I've left out there in the blogosphere and I get embarrassed and tell myself to just shut up before I make another ass out of myself. Hee haw! I thought for sure you were going to give me that ham-whatever award since I try to be funny, but fail. Ha ha! However, I am very pleased with the Friendship Award. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the fabulous award, Lisa, It 'tis YOU that are fabulous!!!! :)
I hope that things are going a bit better for ya in the therapy department. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, just hang in there!
I have some blogs that I visit every day, but some that I pop in on every other day or so (because there is just too many.) Then I read back a few posts that I have missed. I do comment, but usually only a couple posts old. I also only comment if I have something to say about the post, sometimes, I even ramble a bit too much I think! Other times, if I can't think of anything, I just don't comment. But I try to because I feel like commenting helps bloggers validate that people are stopping by and reading! :) I know I like that feeling.
Love the new Valentine look over here, very lovely. Get it, LOVEly? Okay, I'll quit while I'm ahead!!

I hear you on not having enough time in the day to comment and read all these wonderful blogs. I find new ones every day and sometimes I play catch up and comment on several posts.
But even if I don't comment I do read all the posts. It depends on the time I have. I love how real you are Lisa. I wish I lived closer...I would come cook and clean for you. Chin up girl.

Thank you Lisa for the award it was sweet of you

I think blogging could be a full time job. I tried to keep it safe and simply but the more time you spend on wonderful blogs (like yours) the more blogs you discover and your list of favorites grows and then you start leaving comments and before you know it your lost in the world of blogging until someone pinches you or a customer comes into your shop(Mine) and you come back to reality
LOL

Don't feel bad about not making rounds. I have been off these last few days, and not making it to the computer. And somehow my house is still a disaster area. It is out of control messy!! YUCK!!

Today I had 95 posts in my Google Reader!! Holy Catch Up Batman!! Lots to read. So I think I will be doing a lot of reading today between cleaning!

Congrats on your awards!! You deserve all of your awards. I love coming here and seeing how you are doing. I am sorry PT is hard, but it will be all worth it in the end. You go girl!!

I can't keep up with blogging and I'm fully capable! All we can do is what we can do...wait 'til I start irrigation twice a day, riding outside horses, doing the Horsefly publication and Ag surveys...I'll never be online...sigh...I'm just going to enjoy it while I can...hugs my friend~~

Well there now Lisa,

How does the world look today?

Missing your words here and hoping that you are having too good a time in recovery and things are really hoppin' there for you...and you have no-time to sit down!!

Well, if that is not true, and you are sitting too-too much for your likes and other choice thoughts are coming to mind or in heart...WE ALL LOVE YOU!!
And I for one, enjoy immensely all the subjects and thoughts you have because> they are from you! You are uniquie and I can count on being thrilled with the beauty of your creative eye or thrilled with the humor of your hearts renderings.

All that is occuring right now will pass...thoughts and feelings of ill, should you be stuck in a casim of woe; You know this, we know this, we are the same all over the world with seasons of doubt, grief and loss for even the smallest of luxeries we enjoy.

Being stopped in your tracks is a huge loss...but I, again for one, have been able to enjoy you and getting to now your human frailty that is not unlike mine but I hide well, is making me endeared to you all the more.

I am in thanksgiving that I started to blog about my horse and met you!
See you soon!
