This week’s Sunday Stills Challenge is ‘Signs of Fall’. I must admit that Fall isn’t my favorite season. It’s the season for dying when everything turns brown and becomes dry and crumbly, and when everyone and everything is batting down the hatches preparing for the cold, bitter winter.
No thank you.
Give me Spring, the season of renewal or give me summer, the season of warmth, sunshine and lots of outdoor fun! By the way, what happened to summer anyway? It sure blew by fast, didn’t it?
So, my first idea for this challenge was to have a little bit of fun with it and post this particular ‘SIGN of FALL’.
Don’t you think that covers ‘sign’ and ‘fall’ quite nicely?
But I don’t believe that is quite what Ed had in mind, so I took some more traditional photos during our visit yesterday to El Rancho de las Golondrinas in Santa Fe.
Pumpkins ripening on the vine.
The table is covered with seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The corn is ready for harvesting.
The maize will be processed into corn meal by the Water-Powered Grist Mill to feed the families during the cold winter.
The Spinning Wheel waits patiently to turn wool into yarn for making warm winter sweaters and scarves.
And the fireplace conjures up visions of cozy evenings curled up beside the warm crackling fire.
To see how others have tackled this challenge or to participate, check out Sunday Stills!

Great Job!! Love the pic of the cow falling off the mtn hahahah
Beautifully done photos for this challenge Lisa! The grist mill is something else! Very cool~
Lovely signs of coziness-to-come.
The sign is too funny! Although I'm sure getting hit by a falling rock or cow wouldn't be a laughing matter.
The other shots do conjure up the harvest of fall, in preparation for winter. Lovely!
Haha, if it was me, i would have put up that first pic and left it at that! LOL
But seriously, I LOVE that fireplace, it's really neat looking!
Does that sign really have a cow on it? Or did you just paste it on there for all us to wonder about?
Love the photos. You guys always manage to go to the coolest places.
That sign is hilarious. Especially the falling cow. Never seen one of those before. The tabel with the fruit and veggies looks great too. Love the earthenware.
The sign is hilarious. Especially the falling cow. Never have seen one of those before. Love all your pics but my favorite is the table with fruits and veggies. Love the earthenware.
Do the cows not get a warning to not be up that hillside with teh rocks?? That is too funny, though I'm sure in a serious way.
Great take on this theme. Love the pumpkins in the first shot.
Haha! Well, that will do! Cool pics, the sign board is my fav! Thanks for your bossy comment ;) I'll do that :D
You should try photoshop, its worth it! :D

Fall's not my favorite either. I thought I was the only one ;)
That fireplace just really caught my eye, stunning.
LOL! Well done with the first pic. I have to disagree, fall is my favorite time of year, the colors and finally an end to the heat. Bring on winter..:-)))
lol! Yes, Colleen the cow really is on that sign. And I didn't put it there. lol!

Hey Ed,
I do like the colors of Fall, only when everything first begins to change...and then after a couple weeks everything is so dry, brown and dead. yuk. And then after that everything is so barren.
Winter can be brutally cold and windy up here at 7,000 ft, so I much prefer summer. Our summers are gorgeous and warm.
We are typically 15-20 degrees cooler than Albuquerque and we rarely ever turn our evaporative coolers on during the summer. Many folks don't even own them or A/Cs. Tey just aren't needed. We let the cool breezes blow through our windows all summer long.
Now, see what you've done? Gone and made me miss summer again. waahh! :(
~Lisa
You seem to be in a minority...most people seem to love fall! You are right, the summer seemed to just breeze by. I do love the "Indian Summer" we get in the PNW. The days have just been amazing!!!
Beautiful pictures Lisa. Love the fall table and the fire place. leaves are falling here too but we don't have any cold nights yet. Pokey and Gilly are growing their woolly winter hair.

I do like fall around here- but that just means the temps are about 75-80 degrees! And then it rains!
I laughed out loud at the cow falling off the rock! Is that real! Did you add that cow? LOL!
You live in a real purty place!
Love the sign!
And I *REALLY* love the mill building! Old utilitarian buildings really grab me.
Poor cow! Falling and then a rock falling on it too.
Lisa,
I had to call my husband in here to look at the waterwheel pictures. (you know he loves a water wheel!!
El Rancho de las Golondrinas in Santa Fe looks like my kind of place...warm, cozy, and like home.
Have a great day.
Pam
Hi Lisa, this is a great post.Glorious colors of the pumpkins. Love the old fashioned fireplace, the wheel, and clever and funny on the first shot!
Ebie's main blog is here.
Hee hee, Lisa you always make me smile! ;) I love your pictures. The ones from the Renaissance fair were pretty cool too, great colors and costumes, and the ones of the two tulled dogs was especially adorable!
Your first picture is so funny!!
I've never seen a sign like that.
The sign is a WIN! Your other photos are very, very nice as well. Of course the wheel caught my attention, but they were all really nice.
LOL- you are too funny! I'm a bit slow and it took me about 15 seconds to get it ;D Love all of your shots as usual!
Love that adobe fireplace, wish I had a wood stove or fireplace - there is nothing like wood heat on a cool day.
Very nice! fantastic pictures and pumkins are very nice!
Hiya! hahaha! I do love that weirdo sign..bet it perks up travelors, as they speed by it! Maybe even some turn around...'cause they need to see what they thought they saw!
Lovley lovely photo's. YOU do have the best places around..make me wonder if I could live there..it is so gorgeous, from your perspective!
Those grapes are wine grapes...can juice them but have to add sweetner. They are grown for the leaves...we pick them early in the season...freeze some for later.
We cook lamb or beef or spiced chicken..mix it with seasoned rice/ wrap in the leaves and steam it all up..a Lebanese treat!

Upon viewing the photo's again...the corn field..ouu, takes my breath away. Just Gorgeous sweetie!

your photos are always awesome :)
love them all x
Fantastic! Especially the cow in the falling objects sign!
PS, now I know what my brother was laughing at when we were talking on the phone yesterday morning and he was reading your blog at the same time. lol
Nice shot of the mill. That one seems to be in better repair that the mill up here. Thanks! Carmon
Hehe Love the first one! Great job, those are all beautiful pics!
I am in awe...marvelous photos!
You obviously had a blast taking on this challenge!
Jackie
You got such a different view than I did. I don't think I went inside one single building! How you managed to do that ANY stamp 4 log books is beyond me! I'm going to post about this on My World Tuesday in a bit and refer people here for your much different view. I totally missed the pumpkins on the vine and am a bit miffed about that!
It was so nice to meet you in real life, and I love your sense of humor!
Excellent photos!
Really great shots. I can't pick a favorite as I like them ALL. :)
I like the part of fall when our aspen leaves are gold, but after they fall we have a very long brown season. :(
Hi Lisa,
Your pumpkins are so lovely ripening on the vine. The species we planted turned pale green.
Your chickens don't go to the veg patch? Imagine what a field day the chicken would have in your corn field. LOL.
My mum had to fence off the veg patch to stop the chicken from scratching to garden.
Going back to our chicken talk, I LOL so much. We used to keep chicken as "working" hens and "meat" hens so i know all about preparing chicken for our food. These days, people are not allowed to keep chicken in the suburban houses. Kids have no experience and they go all funny when I tell them. My second daughter has gone vegetarian and eats toufoo instead.
Cheers,
Ann
I am with you on this one Lisa - after the summer we haven't had this year, the last thing I want to think about is fall. So I'll stick with your first picture, love that sign :)
That sign is hilarious. =) Love your other photos especially the spinning wheel and the fireplace. The indoor photos looks so cozy.
I love the traditional pics but the road sign is great! It certainly gets the point across, doesn't it??
