As you can see, a lot of changes have taken place since the last chick update when the trio was only 4 weeks old.
It’s amazing that just 6 weeks ago they were tiny fluffballs.
Their time in the garage brooder is now over and they have since been moved to the temporary quarantine pen inside the chicken coop outside. But first I had to go through Mama, Mrs. Cotton, who was not very happy about me trying to capture her babies. She gave me the evil eye, while protecting her chicks, and tried to attack me several times, before I decided it would be safer to remove her from the brooder first.
Here they are in their new digs, meeting the neighbors.
That one chickie in front I just know is a rooster. It looks the most like Sid Vicious and is also the biggest chick with the largest comb and wattles. When I carried the chicks outside, that one kept pecking at me (ouch!) and it’s always strutting around and charging the adult chickens and one of the other chicks (who I have a feeling may also be a rooster…sigh).
That one in the front is the other chick that I suspect may be a rooster, too.
All three chicklets have grown the typical pouffy head feathers, just like their Polish Rooster Daddy.
And of course this post would not be complete without some photos of the Roo of the Coop, Sid Vicious himself.
“Rock-A-Doodle-Doo!” as Michelle has said.
“Sid is a Party Waiting to Happen” Masked Man told me recently.
And it appears that instead of focusing on his paternal duties, he’s decided to add highlights to his punk rock-doo instead.
(And no, Dobbie isn’t licking her chops over the thought of having a chicken dinner. She actually gets along great with all of the chickens and doesn’t harass them at all. I used to let her in the coop with me, or let her run loose when I let the chickens out to free-roam, until I noticed that her breath smelled strongly and suspiciously of chicken poo) (yuk!)
My twinling, Jem says that Sid Vicious reminds him of Satan.
What do you think?
Of course, Jem feels that way because Sid charged at him a couple times, spurs loaded, until Jem introduced Sid Vicious to the rake. And now Sid is more respectful.
All the ladies seem to love him, though. Like Angelina Ballerina, one of our Easter Egger hens. And even blogger friend, Dee, which she admits may be a little unnatural. But that’s ok. Sid loves his adoring fans. The more he has, the happier he is. And the happier his hens are, too.
And after more than 3 months of not laying any eggs while acting as a Broody Hen and raising her trio of chicks, Mrs. Cotton, after just one night in the coop within sight of Mr. Cotton and Sid Vicious, decided it was finally time to offer up her delicious little eggs again. (That’s hers on the left, with a Rhode Island Red egg beside it for size comparison)
And you know I’m happy about that!
The End!

Oh and I forgot to add, if you happen to find any pretty sid vicious feathers lying around feel free to send them with that horse hair if your still game for sending it ;P
Aww I love your chickees. I will totally have a sid vicious someday for sure!
You're so awesome! I love how you know each and every one of your animals and appreciate them so thoroughly.
Just great--I'm going to have that chicken song in my head all day! Ahhhh.
LOL...yes, he's a rockin' chicken isn't he! I'd be intimidated by him if he came charging at me. His colors are stunning.
I hadn't notice Sid's horns before. I wonder if Mr. and Mrs. Cotton would tolerate being tied to a stick and used as feather dusters? My guess is yes, they'd probably protest. Can they find themselves in the snow? Alright, I'll stop. I'm being silly now.
I think Angelina Ballerina is a real beauty.
LOL Sid the man! The babies are growing so fast. And Sid...sigh. I think I shall put a poster on my wall. ROFL
You have some of the most beautiful chickens I have ever seen! Sid reminds me of Carrot Top!! LOL
Great pictures, Lisa. I bought one of Pam's and the farmman's chicken nest boxes and unfortunately it won't be until spring before we get new chickens but I will be waiting with bated breath for that time. Take care!
Nice egg! And that's one mean-looking mama hen!
Mrs. Cotton sure does look mad in that one pic. And I like her fluffy butt, too.
oh my gosh are these the same chickes from the post:

wow they grow up so fast!!
they are so cute lisa haha i love their feathers
The chickies are lovely, even if 2 of them might be roosters! And I don't think I've ever seen a bird as gorgeous as Sid!!
Nancy in Iowa
I just love these chickies! They are so beautiful!
I have never seen a rooster quite as awesome as Sid. He's a pretty cool dude, as is Mr. Cotton!
Cute chicks! They sure have grown. Funny how much they look like Sid. They kind of have that 'game hen' look to them. I concur with your rooster/hen suspicions, unfortunately.
My new rooster has been 'having his way' with the hens (quite a bit, actually) and I'm still only getting eggs from one hen :(
I just love your chickens, and Mr. Roo, is just simply beautiful! Mr. Cottons hind end, is just so fluffy! BEAUTIFUL photos!
Chicken feathers??? Did I hear someone on here say they wanted Chicken Feathers??? Well you could blow a few of them my way too! LOL
I must confess that this chicken song has always been one of my favorite songs that you play on your blog. :) I find myself singing it at the oddest times!
Mr. Cotton's hiney looks like it belongs to a Pekingnese or something...lol!!! Cute chicks!
What marvelous photographs - you have such talent with the lens! I love Sid - he's beautiful. He reminds me of my Creme Brabanter roo, whom I gave away, but I always did think he was terribly handsome!
That sure was a satisfying post! I used to have to do battle with our rooster, too--A Buff Orpington by the name of Sam. Every spring he'd get an attitude, until I spent about 10 minutes reminding him I was bigger than he was. Then he was fine for the rest of the year.
Too bad about the over roo-ing of that clutch. But I'm betting you can find good homes for Sid's progeny!
Sid is now my background. Don't tell him, he will get all conceited.
Great pictures. I agree, Sid has those small red horns -- he's at least a demon.
Dan
Heh!
Much more of that, and you'll have enough Sid-kids to hold a rave. And you just know they're dressed for the occasion!
Hey Lisa, those are some cool chicks! Sid is quite the man... errr, roo, isn't he? You have a nice bunch of chickens.
Yes your chicken family has sure grown. Can't you "geld" the roosters like you would a stud colt???LOL Your words led me to believe you would ahve prefer HENS!!!
Good post. I can't believe those chicks are so grownup looking. Sis is something else, he sure has beautiful color.
oh, I love Mrs. Cotton's speckled egg. =)
Well aren't they just the cutiest little chickies!! =) See what I've missed while away from blogging! Mrs. Cotton looks mighty proud of her brood.
My Grandson make me play this over and over, He Loves It, and so do I.
