My little girl turns 7 years old tomorrow.
If things turns out the way she is hoping, she’ll get a pony for her birthday.
If everything works out well for me this weekend, I’ll have a horse in my life again.
And if ‘Sugar’ passes all her tests, she’ll have a new home where she will be loved and cared for.
And I do believe she’ll thrive and be happy here as a member of our family.
She sure seems to appreciate the attention we give her. When we put her away after Jax, Jen and I rode her today, I walked up to her and thanked her for taking gentle care of my kids while I scratched her cheeks. She looked me in the eye, and I really don’t think I was imagining things when she gave me the equine version of a hug.
Tomorrow morning, Ranchman John and I will be picking up ‘Sugar’ and we’ll be joining an equine trailer convoy, on it’s way down to Cedar Hills Farm for a weekend of clinics in the indoor arena and trail rides on the 440 acre property.
My hope is for ‘Sugar’ and I to learn more about each other and to see how compatible we’ll be out on the trails together.
This will be ‘Sugar’s’ final test. If she passes, she comes home with me on Sunday………………………….
And we’ll be celebrating Jenna’s 7th Birthday on Friday night……..

(Note: No mean comments about my daughter or I not wearing our helmets, please. I had planned to only take Jax to try out ‘Sugar’ today, but Jenna convinced me to take her to see her ‘Sugar’, too. And seeing how relaxed, calm and gentle ‘Sugar’ was with Jax, I decided to let her ride, and then I did, too. And I forgot my helmet in the truck. That’s the second time I’ve ridden ‘Sugar’ that I’ve forgotten to wear my helmet. Weird coming from me, I know.
And please don’t comment on how wonky I look. I’ve been suffering from the flu all week and am still feeling woozy. Oh! And yes, I know Jax is wearing sneakers. He usually rides horses bareback and there’s no need for boots with heels, but I’ve talked him into getting some boots for riding, and an equine helmet, too. Convincing him to wear jeans might not be as easy, though.)

Everyone looks so relaxed, including Sugar. She's got her ears forward more often than not. I get the feeling from the photos that she would really like to be a part of your family. I was going to comment on how beautiful you look with your hair blowing in the wind. It is sad that we have to get to the point where we hesitate to post thoughts, stories, comments, or pictures, because we know all the negative things people will say in response. I think this long winter is making people crabby and they are forgetting their manners. I've noticed that the comments are getting more personal and judgmental. Anyway, happy birthday to the birthday girl!

First let me say a Happy Birthday to Miss Jenna!!! Second, I do believe you have found your horse. She looks like she was taking very good care of your kids and you. Getting her up on the platform is something I don't think you'd have been able to get Baby Doll to do. Sugar looks more relaxed and at ease with everyone and everything you've done with her.
I hope your trail rides this weekend are a load of fun and you get to relax and truly enjoy yourself.
As for the helmets? I have been riding for most of my life off and on and have never worn one. Probably not too smart, but there it is, besides I've never seen a cowboy wear one!

Helmet or no helmet, you know I think it's a personal thing. Sometimes I wear mine and sometimes I wear my leather Aussie hat with the stampede strings. (though not as neat as the ones you are getting!!) Sometimes I too like to feel the breeze blowing my hair, feels good.
