The past week here we’ve had typical summer monsoon weather, except it’s not summer yet. We’ve had temps in the upper 70’s and temps down to the lower 30’s, thunderstorms, rain and even hail. Crazy weather. But the grass is growing like I’ve never seen it before this time of year and my peach and apple trees are blossoming. So, I’m praying that we don’t get any late freezes or snow storms up here. (We’ve had hail and snow during Memorial Day weekend in the past)
But this post isn’t about our wacky weather, except that because of it, I’ve been outside more than usual enjoying nature and my critters, including my chickens.
Here’s some photos of my flock……
Sid Vicious our Golden-Laced Bearded Polish Rooster
Sid Vicious and my daughter’s Ameracauna hen, Angelina Ballerina.
And their remaining offspring that was born here last Fall, The Little Black Hen. (Her siblings, the two roosters, were given away a few weeks ago)
Mr. and Mrs. Cotton, our Japanese Silkies. Mrs. Cotton was kind enough to go broody last Fall and hatch out our first batch of chicks ever born on Laughing Orca Ranch. She’s gone broody again and I gave her 3 more eggs to lay, so it’ll be exciting to see if they hatch out.
Dobbie Girl, the Chicken Herder.
She takes her ‘job’ seriously.
“Excuse me, Mr. Vicious, you’re going the wrong way, sir” (She’s very polite)
Sid keeps an eye out for danger.
And he lets everyone know that he’s in charge.
The End………..

I have a crush on Sid. He's gorgeous! And Dobbie looks like the perfect chicken wrangler! You both were extremely lucky when she found you.
Thanks for sharing your chickens, especially since I don't have any!

Sid is, indeed, one handsome fellow. I can see why the ladies like him. He and Angelina make a good pair.
Just curious, do the two roosters, Sid and Mr. Cotton, keep separate harems? I noticed that your picture showed Mr. and Mrs. Cotton together, and wondered if that was the way it usually was.
Great post LOL I just love the speckled sussex, just love the color!
I want to get a sid vicious one day of my own. For sure!
Love, Love, LOVE the photos today; they are magnificent!
Lisa, I love your colorful chickens (and their names). Keep those photos coming.
And yes, what strange monsoon-like weather we have been experiencing! We drove from Las Cruces to Clovis a couple of days ago, dodging storms all the way.
Last night I was convinced that a pipe had broken somewhere. Rain is absolutely the last thing I suspect in New Mexico when I hear water dripping, but there it was, puddles and all!
Great pictures of all the chickens but Sid is unusually different and handsome. I must have missed something in the past I didn't see Phyllis? Sorry if she's no longer with you.
they sure look happier than they did with all the snow...
I just LOVE your chickens! I'm so envious!
If I ever decided I wanted a chicken, or a rooster it would be Sid!
Cute! Cute! Cute! They are all adorable. And they look very busy strutting and pecking and being so stylish. That is quite the "do" Sid Vicious is sporting.
So nice to see the weather cooperating at your place after all those rotten snow storms. My peach trees have little blossom buds now too.
How do you get them back in the coop? Once I let my girls out, they stayed out.
Hey finally, I've been having Sid withdrawals. Great post Lisa.
Love your flock! They are certainly enjoying the sunshine after all that snow!! :)
Great shots and beautiful chickens! Glad you are having some good weather.
Sid sure has an ego...so fun to see your happy brood out wandering!
Ha ha ha - guess what? Chicken butt!
Good luck with your broody hen, can't wait to see the babies :) My store-bought chicks are almost ready to go out - a couple more weeks I think. Then I'll have room in the brooder for my broody hen and let her raise some chicks. I love springtime!
Oh I am SO glad you decided to do this post LOL!! I guess I have missed them cause I was all smiles reading about them and seeing their current pictures!!! I just LOVE them! You have the coolest flock EVER!!
Lisa,
Your chickens are some of the most beautiful ones I've seen! I'm thinking about getting some but I don't know what to kind to get? We want them for fresh eggs. Can you give some suggestions? Looks like you and Apache are well joined up!
Great chickens! I love how different they all are. Sid is a hoot! Dobie girl is such a good girl!
I am sotaly bummed because a fox got most of my flock and now I have only three hens left. I am trying to get up the nerve to use my incubator.
That's too cute how some of those chickens are bigger than Dobbie. Midge would be helping herself to dinner. The first thing she does when I let her outside is to chase all the birds out of the yard. I think she wants to eat them, but she can't catch them.
hoooooo-e! those chikns are purty! I believe Sid Vicious is well aware of that fact.

Loved this post and all the pictures. They look extremly happy with the warmer temps and sunshine!
Also, enjoyed the posts you've been making covering the trail ride you went on. I just hadn't taken the time to comment yet, but that looks like something I'd like to do oneday. I'll have to look for that type thing/group in MT.
AND...great Wordless Wed shots. She looks like she tackled that bridge without even a quiver!
what a great post! I cant wait for mine to be grown so I can see what they look like all big and pretty! i LOVE your last picture and comment! The End...My laugh for the day and I needed that so badly after my day with King and all that is going on, we almost put him down today, its been a roller coaster (I blogged about it tonight) so it was so good to read your blog tonight! Just want I needed!
I adore all these photos of your flock Liss, I was smiling the entire time..and chuckled with the Dobbie dog...as the herder!
Too cute!
Someday...I will be calling you up to help me with chickens, I pray! Wish I could be a recipient of those tasty eggs!

Love Sid, what a rooster!!! He is gorgeous and the Japanese Silkies, they look like spun cotton, I had never seen that breed of chicken, beautiful. You have quite a handsome flock!
Oh, to have fresh eggs again!
hugs...
Jane
Your chickens are so beautiful. Isn't it fun to watch them?
I do love chickens, too! As a matter of fact, I love them so much, mine live in the house. We still live in the city limits and can't legally have them outside. I have 8 Seramas. Three hatched in January and the other 5 are three weeks old. I purchased the eggs from members on www.backyardchickens.com/forum and hatched them in my homemade incubator. I have photos on my blog.
