Sunday Stills ~ Statues and Figurines

This week’s Sunday Stills Challenge is to photograph statues and figurines.

1) Equine Horseshoe Statue (Santa Fe, NM ~ Note: This statue sits in someone’s front yard and is over 8 feet tall, made up entirely of horseshoes, barbed wire and rebar.)

9)Stone Rattlesnake Statue(2) ~ (Albuquerque, NM ~ Note: That’s my twinling son, Jax up there. We would have never found this location had it not been for someone placing a letterbox here. There are actually two of these humongous rattlesnake statues on this roadway, south of the Albuquerque Airport)

10)Horse of a Different Color Figurine ~ (At my house, a gift from my friend Kacy to cheer me up after I was recently kicked in the face by my horse Apache)

Which one was your favorite and why?

The Christmas Tree Horseshoe Statue! There seems to be 101 ways to use old shoes, but the Christmas Tree Horseshoe Statue is the most creative one that I've ever seen. If I had one I'd leave it out all year long, posted at the gates at the end of our drive.

I love that New Mexico residents are so artistic. Between some of the photos you and Val have taken, I get the impression that there are surprises around every corner when you travel there. And yes, I still do plan to visit someday.

I love the #3 horse and rider statue, makes me think of Will Rodgers for some reason. Poor horsey doesn't look too happy though!
And I also LOVE the Horse of a Different Color figurine because of the thoughtfulness and kindness of Kacy! :-)

I vote for the rattlesnake. That's cool.

PS: I also like the airport horses.

Chad's favorite is the rattlesnake, by far!

I like the Western Cattle Statue, at the museum.

Thats the neatest snake ever! I love it but I am always fond of horseshoe art.

Wow those are so cool! I think the rattlesnake is kinda cool, but kinda creepy. The knitting is sure unique too! And of course I love the horses.

I love #4--so realistic, and so weary-looking. I have to say I'm partial to the rattlesnake, too.

Lisa, your blog just gets better and better. This was a wonderful tour.

Hope your poor face is feeling better and better, too.

All are great...I believe my favorite it the snake, I can't even imagine the time and talent it required to make that beauty.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but, if I have to, it would be the rattlesnake. The art in New Mexico is fantastic. I so enjoy the way that it is modern, yet recognizable.

Around New York State, if there is art, it seems to be twisted shapes, that I'm sure are pleasing to some, but to me look just like that, twisted shapes with no significance.

Nice job Lisa, loved them all. The rattlesnake is very clever. :)

You didn't post on the Sunday Stills site to let everyone know your post was up.

A favorite? How tough!
I love the horse shoe horse, but I think the stone rattlesnake has to be #1. It is so unusual - I love it!

I'll say it again- there are sooo many amazing artists in New Mexico. Gotta love the snake.

I just read the post on chiles. It's one of the things I miss about living there. I never needed to wear gloves to peel chiles, others burned their hands when they didn't. And the smell on the air this time of year, you're right, nothing like it.

I like them all but if I had to pick, I'd say "A Horse of a Different Color" because that was so loving of your friend to do that for you.

What happened with you getting kicked in the face?! I must have missed that post! Hope you're okay!

I like the knitting sculpture because it's so unique. I can't believe I didn't see it on my trip as Cerrillos is so small. I haven't seen the rattlesnake one either. It just means there is more to explore when I visit again!

5)Equine Statue ~ (Albuquerque, NM ~ Albuquerque Art Museum)

See Ma, no hands.

We had a reality show wedding, and the bride wanted to get married on horse back. As they were coming together to say I do, the horse bolted,a nd she fell. Right infront og the TV camera.

# 9 for all the work that must have gone into it and # 10 for the thoughtfulness of your friend, hope your face is healing as well as your being. Take care.

Like the first one and the steer. Nice set of photos, you can keep the snake monument out there.

oh my goodness, that is a wonderful collection. I just love 1 AND 7!!!

These are all great, but I think I like the knitting statue (because it is unique looking) and the equine horse statue #1 the best (because it has a lot of thought and detail in it).

But who could not like that giant rattlesnake???? : )

Love the giant rattlesnake, the rocks create the texture of the scales really well.
