(Gas Gauge broke! My first time ever running out of gas in 25+ years of driving! gah!)
Have you ever found yourself on the road with an empty tank, too? Be honest! lol!

i ran out of gas on a pass somewhere with my horse trailer. from that day on i always carried an empty gas can in my rig!
what's embarrassing is when you drive one of those cars that warn you "you have 5 miles before empty" and you just push your luck and oops, no more gas. i guess it wasn't joking.

been there ,more than once! Its a pain and embarassing, but stuff happens
You know, Lisa, I can truthfully say that I haven't. I get nervous when the tank goes below 1/2. I guess that's from driving through too many New York winters. So, I tend to watch the gauge and the mileage very carefully. I set the trip gauge every time I get gas, and I know how many miles I get to a tank. I figure that gives me double protection.
haha, at least it looks like you didnt have too far to walk.
I have run out of gas lots, ussually about 5 miles from home, lol. Luckily I just phone the hubby and he ussually brings me some gas.
I dont think I have ever ran out of gas, but I have left the radiator cap off on a 100 degree day, after filling the radiator. Needless to say, we had to replace the engine. So running out of gas isnt so bad! LOL
I'm not saying because as soon as I say "No" it's sure to happen.
I don't like to let it go below 1/4, but my hubby likes to drive until the light comes on! Luckily neither of us has ever been stranded. I'd run out for sure if the gauge didn't work!
OK, OK....once. In my POLICE CAR! Even more embarassing, I had to call my sergeant on the police radio to ask him to bring me a gallon. Didn't live that down at the precinct for a long, long time. Ugh.
yes, one time and my husband did it. I kept saying the gas gauge isn't right we will run out of gas, he said oh, it'll be OK.....yea right, famous last words! we ran out and HE had to walk the mile to the gas station! LOL
Only once, with my husband's very old duelie which is now long gone. But I was on the down hill and managed to coast into the gas station. ;)
Honestly it is one of my biggest fears when driving! I am sure that it has something to do with the responsibility lecture my dad gave me when I started driving... I have never ran out of gas and start scouting the nearest gas station as soon as I hit half tank (on long trips)and I am nearing panic by the time I hit 1/4 tank if nothing has become available! Sad I know. ( :
If and when it happens, I am sure I'll break down and cry!! ( :
I can understand your feeling. In almost 50 years of driving I haven't run out of gas (knock on wood).

Not since the last time my gauge broke!
Ugh yes. My husband had bought this old pickup truck and for a reason I can't remember, I had to drive it to work - an hour away. We didn't know the gas gauge didn't quite work right...I could see I still had more than a 1/4 tank.
Dead. On the side of a busy expressway in a DIESEL truck which mean just putting in more fuel wouldn't work. I had to be towed to a service station so they could bleed the lines before filling. $300 and 3 hours later I made it to work.
Once, in a borrowed car but thankfully I was able to coast into the gas station.
I have been there more than I want to say. I just seem to push it all the time. lol. It's like a game. hehehehehe. I guess I like living on the edge.
Did you have extra gas in the can or did you have to hitch a ride or hike to a gas station? I haven't run out of gas, but I've broken down on the side of the road a few times. I had to use a freeway call box in L.A. and they sent a cop out right away to just sit behind me while we waited for a tow truck. They don't let single women sit on the side of the road by themselves in L.A.
Oh no! I guess I have been very lucky, I have never ran out of gas!! Never!! Knock on wood.....
I have ran out of gas like twice in my 25 years of driving!
so embarrasing...and also annoying..but we've all done it...
Oh man!
So glad you weren't alone•
A yea, when I was dating my now husband...Fell asleep at his house, snuck out...then, ran out of gas. Freezing weather out...had to wall on the freeway. Made it to a convienence store, then was too cold to talk- to ask to use the phone!
And more recently, at my old barn...they gave me a gas can that had 2 gallons for me to drive to the nearest station!
