Ranchman John was pretty upset about his 4-wheel drive going out on his less than 4 year old truck. He really wanted me to take a photo of our dear friends, Greg and Renee, pulling the GMC out of the snow with their Toyota, and sending it in to General Motors. You pay a lot of money for a product, and you expect it to be reliable, safe, and long lasting. It’s very frustrating and disappointing when it isn’t.
We sure were grateful for our friends, though. They helped get Ranchman John back on the road again.
Oh yeah. See that tree beside our driveway? It was damaged last year when a neighbor’s contractor mistakenly drove their concrete truck up our driveway, turned around and ripped a section of the poor tree right off.
This latest snow has finally done it in, and that last section, that cracked from the heavy wet snow, will have to be removed.
Speaking of heavy, wet snow…..we were sitting in our living room on Saturday, enjoying the fireplace, while watching TV when we felt…….drip, drip, drip. We looked up to find the ceiling bulging where water was seeping down, and a chunk of drywall hanging off. Not the nicest thing to see just a week before Christmas…..
Oh, and the balcony deck sprung a leak down to the back porch, too.
I tell ya. When it snows…it pours!
But by Monday morning, we woke up to find that just about all of that heavy, wet snow that was dumped on us on Friday, is melted all away. The ground is saturated which is just what it needed.
The driveway up to our house. The dirt road to the left goes up to our barn.
Looks like we’ll need some more snow if we’re going to have a White Christmas.
It looked much prettier in our side yard, chicken coop fence and apple orchard when snow covered this area.
Of course, it’s much easier to walk up the hill to the barn without a foot of snow to trudge through. Although the greasy mud can also be a bit challenging, too. But Apache is happy to be back in her back paddock and looks like a mud puppy.
Temperatures are back up into the 40's-50's(F) again, though the weather folks are telling us to expect a chance of snow on Thursday. Maybe we’ll still have a White Christmas after all.
How’s the weather where you are?

Its rainy rainy rainy here. :( I think my paddock are could now be considered a state watershed. :) Go away rain!
I drive a 1995 Toyota 4X4, I'll keep driving HER until one of us runs out of gas. :-)
Snappy cold, icy roads and a frozen watering bowl. Oh well , we are going to have a white Christmas for sure, so I guess that is the trade off
Cold, cold, cold, and a bit more snow to come - I think we'll have a white Christmas at least!
I'll make a note not to make my next truck a GMC. The 4L on my Ford has been broken for years, but 4H seems okay. My truck is 9 or 10 years old, though. That sucks about the leaks. We had several leaks in our spa room, now photography studio, that just let the water stream in. We ignored it for a long time since all that was underneath was a deck and outdoor carpet, but I'd be really unhappy if that were in a main part of our house.
I can't believe all that snow is gone!
Surprisingly the snow has stuck around for 8 days now! Normally we can't expect our snow to stick around for more than a couple days. The fact that its here and packed down is kind of a miracle. Honestly I prefer it to mud and ice any day.
Wow I wish our snow would go away, its been here for over a month and isn't pretty anymore, but we will definitly have a white Christmas.
We had 7 or 8 inches of the white stuff last week, and most of it's still around. Where I plowed has sort of melted off in a couple of sunny, warmish (35F) days since then, and the rest has packed down to an icy pack. The wind is what kills us here (tarp is almost shot, only hanging from about 4--out of 10--grommets anymore).
I've never had anything but Chevy/GMC and never had any big troubles with them (except the time I tried driving over the end of a roll of steel fence and it kicked back and dented the door--but that wasn't anybody's fault but my own ;-D).
Wow, we must be the only place that is still warm. No snow, no rain, no need to turn on the heat except for a little bit in the early morning to take the chill off. I'm loving southern New Mexico this winter--no complaints!
Lisa, up at the horse ranch, it has been raining for 3 days. The horses are standing in mud and water! I went up today and gave them all an extra meal and some Coca-Soya oil. Snow is forecast for the higher mountain elevations. It has rained here in the desert all day yesterday and it sprinkled all day today. We have a HUGE storm moving in from Hawaii...the "pineapple express". Up to 5 inches of rain forecast for the Los Angeles region.
I'm with Crystal ~ this snow needs to go away, but alas it's snowing NOW!
Sucks all the leaking I hope it's not too expensive to repair.
LOL! Reading this post while listening to your x-mas music just made me laugh, hope all gets fixed soon and next time buy an import, it seems we can't produce good vehichles in our country except ford..:-)
p,s, its overcast this evening so my hopes of good eclipse pics are fading fast..
Cold here - -3.5* at evening feeding and while we were watching the eclipse. The temps did get up to 13* today. That's not enough to melt the snow that's been here since the first of November. We will definitely have a white Christmas.
It has been clear, breezy, and lovely. I did grocery shopping after work last night, and didn't even wear a jacket. We REALLY need some rain.
Lisa, hubby and I are looking at a Toyota Tacoma pickup ourselves! Now after reading your post, I'm sure CHEVY won't be on our list! ACK!
rain rain rain rain rain, with mixed showers and drizzles, interspersed with rain. Want some?
4x4 GMC and Chevy have been getting *horrible* reliability ratings for the past 10+ years, which makes me sad because I love Chevy. However, we drive Ford and Dodge.
Sorry to hear about your leaks. That can be very frustrating! I will be glad to send you some snow. We have already had to much this year for my taste. lol. If I don't get to talk to you before Christmas, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!
When is snows, it pours. Ha! (Not funny about the drip though.) And truck problems?? Ugh.
Looks like a fun luncheon. Glad you gals have each other.
