It snowed Monday and Tuesday and as I looked outside during one flurry, I noticed one of our resident raven couples. They were sitting on the pipe fence together, until one flew away, leaving the other behind….looking rather forlorn and sad.
But soon they reunited in a juniper tree in one of our paddocks. It was sweet how they groomed and snuggled up with one another.
The other day I noticed a very large flock of ravens in Apache’s paddock. There were at least 30 ravens gathered underneath her tall pinon tree as if they were having a special raven convention, or maybe a social mixer?
Afterwards we are seeing more ravens paired up together. They really watch out for one another and stay close to each other. I suppose we’ll be seeing baby ravens before too long.

I'm not a bird person, but if I had to keep one, it would be a raven. I've always thought they were cool, and so SMART.

They are interesting birds. We have crows around here and when they gather in the trees it gets very loud. They have different calls and I wonder what they all mean. I'm always trying to capture photos of them in a group but no luck so far so kudos to you!
Good capture. I've had two sleeping in my barn each night for some time now.
When I boarded my horses up in Lancaster, CA, there was a raven nest on the property. The parents were very attentive and loving for the little ones. Now I see a pair up at the ranch. I often see them flying around the ranch. I actually got a couple of photos of ravens this past weekend, which I need to post! They are interesting birds.
I love the picture of the couple in the tree. I've never seen them together - I guess I always seem them when one is on a nest somewhere.
Love the snow coming down, and in the first picture, it makes him/her seem all that more forlorn.

I think ravens are kinda creepy, they make me think of horror movies for some reason. But we have a bunch in our creek every year as well.

Very nice shots Lisa! We have ravens in our valley as well and I always enjoy watching them. I am fond of ravens as we raised a baby raven (there were 5 in the nest) when the nest was destroyed and the mother shot. The other five were raised up by other people as well. We named our raven Edgar. Turned out that Edgar was a girl. Edgar loved to help me hang laundry and would hop in the laundry basket and pull the clothes out and drag them to me. They are very clever birds and they are prone to stealing things and hiding them as well.
Maybe the gathering under the pinon tree was a speed dating event...lol.

What perfect pictures. It's hard to photograph both black and white in a color photograph and still get the details on the black objects to come out.
They are gorgeous! I'm surprised how different they look from crows - their beaks look bigger, and they look overall larger than our local crows.
So, is Apache still scared of Raven feathers?
Hopefully babies won't be coming until the threat of snow is gone. I know snow is not your usual winter but there's been nothing usual about this winter that I can tell.
Raven convention for sure, or a Raven singles club meeting..:-))
