He Crows

The Summer Chicks are now 24 weeks old and some big changes have been taking place. Some of the pullets have graduated to hen status because they are now laying eggs for us. But one of our Blue Wyandotte chickens confirmed our suspicions last week and began crowing. Yes, we are now positive that he’s a roo.

But you really must listen to the horrible sounds that come out of his beak. It sounds like someone is getting violently murdered and is screaming for help.

I took this video at 6am. Think about that for a moment. Now listen.

See what I mean? Horrible wasn’t it?

And he really is quite a handsome rooster, too.

But sadly the town cryer has no name yet. I was thinking perhaps Paul Revere might be an appropriate name. What do you think? Anyone have any other name suggestions for our Blue Wyandotte rooster with the crazy crowing voice?

He is quite loud. I like the name Paul Revere :)
Love your gas saving tweet. Isn't that the best? I got all excited the other day on a trip, I found gas for $3.05, instead of $3.17 in Phx and $3.27 out where I live. $1.99 is fabulous!
I am way addicted to Pinterest. Dang that site!! lol

How about calling him Sunday dinner?

How about Bob Dylan or Arlo Guthrie. The voices match.

Paul Revere is a great name. I don't think anyone can beat you in coming up with great names for fowl. I pushed the play button in the video and my phone rang, so I had to shut it down. But before I could bring it back up, I got four more phone calls, one right after the other as soon as I put the phone in the cradle. Crazy day. Too bad Paul can't answer the phone for me.

He's a beauty. I want to carry my laptop out to our chicken pen right now (in the dark) to play this video for our Bitey Hens. Bitey Albertina knows only the metal rooster sculpture outside her door--she's never met a real, absolutely real, GUY of a rooster. Who knows? It might even help egg production in these darkening days of the oncoming winter. Blustery out, ain't it?

This kind of helps me understand about why our snooty homeowner's association won't let us keep chickens.

Great name choice. They say "practice makes perfect". But that means you'll have to endure Paul's practice sessions. Hopefully he's a quick learner.

I don't think he sounds bad. He sounds like a rooster, doing his thing!

I don't think it was that bad but being six in the morning I could see why it could be annoying. Like the name Paul Revere too. He's a looker, soon he'll be crooning out a smooth tune. Oh, how about Frank Sinatra and you could call him Frankie or Bing Crosby. Even though they were before my time I remember Looney Toon Cartoons with a rooster with Bing's voice singing to the hens.

Funny...when I watched the video and heard his crow I thought of a town crier announcing the coming sunrise. So I think Paul Revere is a perfect name! He is a very handsome roo and hopefully he will get his crow perfected soon!

We had a blue Cochin hen that liked to crow now and then. She only layed one or two eggs that we know of in the six years we had her. So I think she was one confused bird!
