‘Twas two days before Christmas and outside of my house, the snow was falling as quietly as a mouse,
The chickens were tucked into their house with care,
In hopes that the morning would find them all alive in there.
When out on the snow there arose such a clatter,
I grabbed my camera to take photos that matter.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But five clucking chickens, and a pile of snow, right up to here!
The daylight revealed another two feet of snow
And weighted down branches that hung very low.
More slower than turtles and the pinto horse came.
And I whistled, and shouted, and called her by name:
Now Apache Mare! Come when I call!
To the bucket of hay, it’s time to eat all!
“Don’t mind if do. Nom, Nom Nom”
Five more furred critters, Yum, Yum, Yum!
So six hungry mouths chew, bah, hum and neigh,
While their bellies fill up with tasty hay.
As I turned around, there in the snow, she was found!
And she was struggling and making a grunting sound.
She was dressed in a jacket with snow above her knee,
And I must confess, she did not look happy.
Her dog Zuni ran to and fro,
Not sure which direction to go.
For the deep snow, Zuni has a knack,
Until it is almost as high as her back.
Her eyes how they vanished! Her canines how sharp!
Her ears were like antennae, her voice was a bark.
My daughter arrived with a smile so big,
I knew that the snow, she would help us dig.
A wink of my eye and a twist of my head
Soon gave you to know you have nothing to dread.
And then in a twinkling, I heard my daughter from the roof
Santa needs to bring the Tooth Fairy, because I lost a toof!
But there in the snow, I saw my neighbor Val’s car was stuck!
And look! Help is near in the form of a truck.
The nice driver he pulled her car from the snow,
And then he came over to my driveway to plow!
This kind fellow plowed with his truck, to help make sure we won’t get stuck.
And when he was through we heard heard him say,
Please! No more snow! Just bring me hay!
Happy Christmas to all and Hip Hip Hooray!

Well done! Merry Chrsitmas to you and all of your family!
Look how deep and nasty that stuff is! Tell Santa that we don't need any of it, thanks.

Outrageous! I think it is time that you invest in some snow pants for yourself, your kids and your critters. You must be freezing in sweats and Jen in track pants. I wore stretchy pants the other day instead of jeans and my legs felt like ice. Oh yeah, and I thought you hated poetry, yet here you are writing it! Hip Hip Hooray!
LOL Lisa that's a GREAT Poem. Great photos also!
So fun to read! Something I needed on this day, yes indeed!
I would gladly take some of that snow. We have had no moisture here since late November! It's as dry as a bone and so cold, cold, cold, cold!
Wishing you, your family and all of your wonderful critters a Very Merry Christmas!
Wow, that was fantastic!! Lol, love it all! You really got buried by snow this year. It's incredible how deep some of that is. Amazing!
Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas :)
Wow Lisa, Your area has really been hit hard. I thought it was bad when I left Pagosa in the middle of Nov. Stay safe and warm.
Super! Since we're gone I don't know how much snow we got in Corrales, but I'm sure it's far less than what you've got.
Have a blessed Christmas.
Dan
Wonderful! Hope that tooth was a baby one!
All your animals look cozy- even in the snow.
Have a glass of eggnog for me, and we'll meet back here in 2012!
That was FANTASTIC! I am so glad you still have your sense of humor. My gosh! I cannot believe the amount of snow, it's surreal. I am glad your driveway got plowed and all but jeeez! I hope Ranch-man John is coming home soon. Ho HO HO Lori!
I KNOW you're sick of the snow, but what a great post lol sooo creative!
Did you manage to finally meet Mr Plow?
With all you have to navigate
You can't stay in and vegetate
And though it's snowing all the time
It seems to make your blog posts rhyme
Merry Christmas

So, that's where all our snow went!! You hogged it all. lol. We're also having the driest December on record. :( I LOVE the snow and so do my horses, so spare me a little, sista! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Sorry about the snow but that was a great poem!
Haha, very well said, Lisa. Hope you're able to see the ground soon.
Hi Lisa - There isn't an affordable place to get d'alep (or aleppo) soap which is why Brett gives it to me for Christmas. My friend used to bring me a couple bars in her suitcase when she would visit. I think Brett found them on Amazon.
I love the poem and the photos! I sure wish you'd send some of that snow up to Minnesota. So dry and brown here. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Love the poem, but, I think you guys have had enough already. Merry Christmas!
OH Boy! definitely a white Christmas in New Mexico!!!
Great poem! LOL you made me laugh, and comiserate!!!
hope your snow is melting but I doubt it as ours isn't or at least not very fast. Love the photos of Zuni. I do so miss my German Shepherds. Had 3 of them, one at a time, over 35 years. But none now. Do have a rescue dog that looks to be Shepherd and Dobie that is the sweetest and best behaived dog I have ever had. But still miss the Shepherds. Also have a Border Collie. I love her but the most obsesive dog ever. It is the breed. You have to be prepared to be herded by BC's. Take care in that icey snow.
haha - very clever - love it!
love your snow too - we have not had a FLAKE yet!
