Sunday Stills ~ Favorite Photo

The first Sunday Stills Challenge for 2012 is to post our favorite photo of 2011 and share what our photography goals are for 2012.

But first I just want to say that I’m grateful for my camera. My Canon PowerShot SX110 IS is now 3 years old and has served me well. Although it is always tempting to upgrade to a more expensive camera with more of this and more of that, I’m still pleased with the results my camera gives me, so I’ll hang on to it for as long as it still wants to serve me.

It was too difficult to whittle my favorite photos down to just one, so it’s a toss-up between this photo I took at the Jemez Pueblo Monument in September

And this photo I took at Heron Lake in August.

And finally, this photo of my mare, Apache, that I took a week ago, two days before Christmas.

Which one is YOUR favorite?

My photography goal for 2012 is to get my passion back for taking photos. I still enjoy photography, but somehow at the end of summer I lost my creative edge and my ability to see interesting photo opportunities. I even forget to take my camera with me whenever I leave the house which is not like me at all.

Surprisingly, the only present my 8 year old daughter, Jen, wanted for Christmas was a camera, and she was thrilled to find that Santa left her a “starter” camera under our tree on Christmas morning.

Her excitement for taking photos is contagious! Jen has already taken over 800 photos in just one week and she has a pretty good eye for creative composition, too!

I hope that by rediscovering my own photography passion and creativity again, I can help my daughter hone her photo-taking skills and instill the same passion for photography, too.

Happy 2012 everyone!

Happy New Year to all! I like the monument photo the best. I like the rich tone and texture.

I'm a sucker for reflections so I'll have to say that is my favorite. I had the same thing happen this year...my creativity waned and I just couldn't seem to see the "picture" like I use to. My cousin got a camera and he's full of questions now and has an excellent "eye" for photography.....it's given ME a boost.

Gosh look at all the snow! I really like all of the pictures.

Happy New Year to you!

Oh, please don't make us choose!

I think that's awesome that Jen's following in your photographic footsteps. Will you ever post any of her pictures?

Happy 2012!

It sounds like you and your daughter have a similiar goal! You should have some great trips this year, then! Happy New Year from sunny California!

I love that picture of Lake Heron the best but I know for sure that you really don't have much to improve, you are a great photographer! Happy New Year, Lisa!

Hmmm, I can see why you had trouble deciding which picture is your favorite. I'm having the same struggles! I think I'll pick the Jemez shot as, for me, it evokes feeling of the New Year coming with all kinds of possibilities 'down the way'. I like that you can see the end, but you can also see that there are things to explore along the way.
It doesn't surprise me that Jen has an eye for photography... she got it from her mom!
Have a super New Year!

Great pics, Jen will be a natural just like her mom..:-)
p.s. will we see Jen day on your blog to show off her pics??

I'm always biased toward horse pictures so I vote for the one with Apache.

As far as picture taking, don't over-analyze it. Just take pictures for the fun of doing it.

Have a blessed New Year.

Nice pic of your girl Apache but those first two pics are awesome. I can't choose between them either lol

The texture really comes through on the first one, it looks like you could feel the stone if you were to touch the screen. And the second one, the expanse of sky and then the reflection of it in the water... gorgeous.

I like the lake reflections and the 'happy' Jenna photos best. But then, you always take great photos.

I love that first picture of the pueblo but, I am glad I don't actually have to choose between them. They are great. Happy New Year!

I love them all but the photo of the lake is breathtaking!

They are all great photos! But I'm always partial to horse photos...so Apache gets my vote. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Happy New Year!

I like all of the photos! Can't pick a favorite!

You and Jen are going to have so much fun taking pictures together! I think it is wonderful that she wanted a camera of her own. My daughter was 10 or 11 when she asked for her first camera.
