Yesterday was a long, but absolutely awesome day! I was at the 20th Annual Arabian & Half Arabian Youth National Championship Horse Show the entire day, from 8am until 10pm! I volunteered as a Gate Keeper and Judge’ Assistant from 8am-12pm. As you can imagine I took a ton of photos!
I’ll be going through them in the next couple days and sharing them here on my blog, but for now I have to share one of the highlights of my day that happened during the Freestyle Reining Class.
Have you ever heard of Side-Saddle Reining?
Do you think you could do this (sliding stops, spins, roll-backs, cantering, galloping, etc)?
In a skirt, sitting aside your horse?
Well, if you were impressed with that, just imagine competing in reining on a side saddle if you are a guy……a dude……a young man!
Yeah…sitting side-saddle and wearing a dress while cantering, galloping, and performing sliding stops and spins!
Bad photo, but you get the idea….
Well, that’s what this young man did (and won Grand Champion of his 14-17 yr old Freestyle Reining class!).
The judges love him, too. And he even got a standing ovation! He did an awesome job riding side saddle!!
And if that weren’t enough excitement, I lost count of the number of times he and his awesome horse, Navajo Joe, did fast spins in both directions, and beautiful sliding stops. I’m pretty sure he performed over 5 of them each!
They were obviously having the best time together and having so much fun!
They were the last performance of the evening and it was the perfect ending to an awesomely terrific day!
Those two were an amazing team!

That's hilarious. He even looks like he stuffed his bra. You can see the delight on the judges' faces.
How cool is that! My hat goes off to this young man!
Our 4-H Horse show is coming up on Tuesday and we have several youth entered in the reining class. They work so hard all summer just to get the pattern down and compete in our little show. My daughter will be trying her hand at reining this year for the first time!
Cool, but I dont get why a guy would want to dress as a girl and do sidesaddle...
Pain horse milo,
You obviously aren't familiar with Youth Freestyle Reining. Go do some research on it and then you'll understand what this talented and fantastic young man, as well asth other talented teenage riders were doing last night.
As for why he chose to dress up as a woman and ride side saddle....I'd wager a guess that he did it because it would be a challenge and a hell of a great idea and loads of fun!
He totally rocked it!

Side saddle is crazy hard but to do what he's done...amazing!
That is the craziest thing ever! That guy has an incredible seat. I couldn't even imagine riding sidesaddle, much less doing a reining pattern. Ahhh youth, lol, and skill. Much skill. Thanks for sharing!
WHOOO! That's awesome! I really enjoy riding side-saddle, but would never attempt reining maneuvers like that.
