While many kids are being dragged back to school this month, kicking and screaming all the way, my family, including my homeschooled kids, are still enjoying summer….because it is still summer.
Summer Camp in the mountains for my kids. (That’s one of my sons up there on the stockade fence)
Summertime traditions and activities should not be relegated only to June and July. Two months is just too short to do Summertime right. Not sure whose crazy idea it was to force kids to trudge back to school in August, but it’s just too darn hot…and yes, it’s still Summer!
My daughter playing in the pool.
So, in the same manner that I traditionally went back to school as a child, my kids will be going back to our Homeschool routine starting the week after Labor Day……..as it should be.
This week’s Sunday Stills Challenge is to share photos of what Summertime means to me.
Traffic Jam Cattle Drives
Lady Bug Hatchings
Hiking
Camping
And yes, even playing in the wet, cool mud.
Summertime in the Southwest also means Fire Season, with 24/7 observation inside of Fire Towers. (Like this one near our house, where the Fire Watch was showing my sons how to use their most important tool: The Osborne Fire Finder.)
And for me, Summertime just would not be complete without long trail rides with my horse, in the mountains.
And sometimes the best way to enjoy Summer is to just relax beside a beautiful lake with a refreshingly cold drink. (Margaritas are perfect for this past time.)

I love it!!!
Did I tell you I love that new header picture!
I dont think the kids in Washington go back until Sept.
Enjoy the rest of Summer!!!
I have been harvesting green beans, and zucchini, and yellow squash. Then blanching and freezing everything! Want to can some to, but freezing is easier!! LOL
LOVE that last photo of the lake...fabulous!
Had Dave and I had children, we would have home schooled. I agree, school needs to start after Labor Day and let out before Memorial Day AND less money wasted on school "budgets".
Great! Those lady bugs are amazing!
Great shots. Beautiful colors and what looks like a lot of fun.
The perspective on that last lake photo almost makes it look like it was taken with a wide-angle lens. Is that facial hair on your boys? I'll bet they are still sweet and kind as ever despite being teenagers.
I agree...school should not start until after Labor Day! When I homeschooled the kids, we started the week after Labor Day as well. My daughter only has one math credit left to get and then we are officially done with homeschooling! Doesn't seem possible...sniff, sniff!
I love all of your summertime photos! I have never seen so many ladybugs in one spot!
I haven't had much time for reading my favorite blogs lately...this is my super busy time at work...ugh! So today I'm doing a little "catch up" reading!
I love your header picture - although being that high would give me the heebie jeebies. I'm with you on all your summer observations. My kids were fortunate to start school after Labor Day -- until they started college. We still spend one week every summer at a mountain lake. The kids swim, build in the sand, and explore while the adults sit on the shore with a good book and a beer. I like your idea of margaritas better than a beer. Next year, I'm going to try that!
Nice summer shots. I loved the hummer shots you had the other day as well.
Nice shots, all reflect summertime. My fav is the ladybug shot, I've never seen so many all in one place.
loved all those shots big time, especially the lady bug and covering up with mud, the lake shot with sky is outstanding........great posts.
Love those ladybugs but that last shot is SPECTACULAR!!!!! Looks like the kids are having a great summer..:-)
The ladybug capture is stunning ! I've never seen the likes of it before. Thanks for sharing!
Wow - Jenna is growing up and looking just like her mom! Great photos!
Those pictures are georgeous! Part of me wishes I homeschooled but my son enjoys school so I don't think that it would be good at this time.
Wonderful pictures, Lisa! The lake was incredible, now it just needs a horse in it. :)
We start on August 27th and are going to do online school. Sort of a hybrid - not quite homeschool, not quite traditional school. Hope it goes well. I have to tell you I've seen a huge difference in my own girl when she did online school.... But that's a longer story.
This certainly captures the feeling of summer :)
