Four Hills Spring Ride with BCHM

This past Spring I went on a fun ride with my Back Country Horsemen Chapter at the Four Hills Open Space. Since we were limited on horse trailer parking and we had a large group of about 20 riders and equines, several of us shared a trailer ride to the parking area in front of a local feed store.

Immediately after leaving the parking area, there is a small creek water crossing. Some horses have not had much experience with water crossings, so this ride was a good opportunity to practice.

The first hour of our ride was pretty exciting for me because Apache hadn't been ridden for two months and this was our first time out on the trails in 2016. She was very energetic and forward. Nothing out of control, but she wanted to go. So I didn't get the opportunity to take any photos until after we stopped for our lunch break.

Apache tied up for a rest and lunch break.

We had long ears on our ride, too.

Some of our BCHM crew.

Ready to eat!

Lunchtime!

Great views towards the west across the city of Albuquerque. If you look closely out into the distance, you can even see snow covered Mount Taylor, at over 11,000 ft elevation!

The foothills of the Sandias ahead of us...

I-40 down below....

Apache and I stopping to enjoy the views towards the north and west. Interstate 40 snaking it's way beneath the Sandia foothills.

Lots of impressive boulders to ride among as we head downhill.

Very fun rolling hills to ride!

No boring trails here!

Riding down into a sandy arroyo. Sandia Peak and Crest peeking out from behind the foothills.

Great views!

Riding back down towards the parking area.

Time to cross the same creek, but this water crossing is on a different section of creek. A little wider and muddier here.

We're up next!

Apache crosses water like a boss! And afterwards we boogied back to the trail head and parking area.

Wonderfully fun ride!
Life is Good!
