I invited a new riding partner, Teresa, and her gaited mare, to join me in riding the Oak Flats trails in the Cibola National Forest one day this past summer. This was a woman that just moved to New Mexico a year ago. I offered to share some of my favorite trails with her.
The day could not have been more beautiful! Sunshine and bright blue skies!
I love that these gorgeous trails are only 15 minutes from my house. Yes. I am very lucky!

I took her to one of my favorite lunch spots.
Our ponies enjoyed a much appreciated rest in the shade of the pinons and junipers.
Can you tell why this is one of my most favorite lunch locations?!
Those are the Sandia Mountains in the distance, another of my favorite local places to ride.
The cool shade from the tall ponderosas was wonderful as the day grew hotter after lunch.

Some of the trails are rocky, but most are smooth and mostly flat. The trails in this area are a joy to ride!
So, So, So beautiful!!

Apache and I leading the way.
Back at the trailer at the end of another great ride, Apache enjoying a rest and a cool drink of water.
Poor tired pony.
Check out my Cashel Tush Cushion. Still not sure I'm crazy about it. It's 1" thick and smooshy. Kind of feels like riding on a marshmallow.
And when Apache trots, the squishy-ness and bouncy-ness makes me laugh.
Life is Good!!
