Guitterez Canyon Spring Ride

A couple of Facebook friends, that only live a little over an hour away, recently asked if they could drive down and have me guide a ride for them. I gladly agreed and also invited a few of my local riding buddies from my Lunch Bunch Trail Riders group. 

I chose to ride at Guitterrez Canyon Open Space because it's easy to find with a large parking area and awesome trails over varied terrain.

And gorgeous views of the Sandia Mountains, too!

There were 6 of us in our group. The two in the middle, Ray and Sarah were the couple that had driven down to have me guide them on some of my favorite local trails.

Apache and I led the way for a while, but we let others lead throughout the day, too.

Not many of the trails are marked, so it's good to know your way around and be familiar with the trails. A good map helps, too.

Sarah likes to take photos like I do, so I do have a few photos of me from that day.

There's a reason why my riding buddies and I decided to call ourselves The Lunch Bunch Trail Riders.........we love to stop for lunch, relax and enjoy each other's company. 

This day, we had ourselves a good 'ol trail picnic. Not unlike gathering around a campfire, we sat in a circle beneath the tall pines and told funny stories while laughing and sipping wine. 

We had a grand 'ol time!

Ray told the best stories and had us all in stitches!

After a wonderful leisurely lunch, we mounted up and continued our ride.

The day could not have been more beautiful...sunshine, blue skies and warm temperatures.

It was an awesome day to be out on the trails!

Just look at those gorgeous blue skies and those jaw dropping vistas!

At the end of the ride my guests said they greatly enjoyed themselves and couldn't wait to do it again. They also invited us up to their neck of the woods to ride the badlands.

We were out for about 3 1/2 hours including a leisurely lunch. We all had an awesome day! Great riding buddies and wonderful horses.
