Llama Land

The llamas have been much more curious and friendly lately. Whenever we enter the pasture, the usually run down to greet us, oftentimes spooking me, by leaping out from behind a tree!
John likes to take our German Shepherd Puppy, Zuni, up to the barn when he lets the llamas out in the morning. The llamas are always interested in Zuni. But Zuni keeps a safe distance for now.

When I brought the llamas in last night, they were so excited and immediately went into their prospective pens with me only having to gently, but firmly say "Go" while pointing my entire arm toward each of their pens. It always surprises me with how intelligent they are and how fast they 'get it'.
Once the llamas were in their pens, they made me laugh right out loud as they pronked, bucked and danced around their pens. I'd like to believe they were just happy to see me, but I know their joy was mostly because they knew I was going to feed them. haha!

You'll notice we still have snow on the ground, even after our last snow over a week ago. It's not a very nice snow, either. It's the type of snow that crackles as you walk over it, and often stays solid and slippery as you try to navigate your way over the snow, ice and muddy patches in between. The crispy snow reminds me of what I believe walking on mummified bones would feel like. And, of course, the snow freezes solid at night.

Proud Catlinite posing beside the juniper tree. He's pretty grungy right now with all the mud in the pasture and his pen.And he's quite the 'fatty' after the few times he's been allowed to sleep inside the main part of the barn, where the hay is kept. He also like to try and steal any grain or pellets Cataleya has in her bucket, when she's not looking. Man, that boy can eat! When Spring comes, he's going to be on a strict diet and exercise.
Pretty Cataleya loves eating juniper berries. She's been rolling in the straw so she looks pretty shaggy right now, though.
