Sometimes I'm even able to play peeping-tom without any chickens catching on, but usually they see me right away and hop onto their perch to say Hello and check me out.
I also like the window because recently we've had a few wind-free days, and although cold, I could take the plexi-glass off the window and allow fresh air to go in without making the poor chickens go out and brave the cold.
I must admit they are kind of spoiled. When they are allowed outside, they usually tend to bunch up together after a little time exploring and doing chicken things, and they look so miserable and cold. And they are so happy to head back into their cozy house again. I bet they can't wait for Spring, too!

Looking in the window at the chickens

Looking through the window wire mesh with the plex-glass removed.

This is a view into the chicken house through the front access door. I really like the large opening of the access door which makes the house a breeze to clean, or climb inside to do repairs or catch chickens.

Your chicken posts are great - I love looking at all these pictures and reading your descriptions of things. It helps me think about and plan for what I want to do for my chickens once we get out to our new place.
I've noticed in a few pics that the upper nesting boxes don't seem to have any nesting material - is this because it's winter and the hens aren't laying right now? Or do they all just huddle in the bottom ones?
p.s. thanks for responding to me on my questions in your other posts! :-)
Hi Farm Girl,
Yes, the chickens are only about 12weeks old and so not laying.
I suspect they won't be laying until they are about 20 weeks old....and whenever it finally warms up around here.
In an earlier post, I did write that we are planning on adding an 'edge' so the eggs don't roll out on both the top and bottom nestboxes. And we'll also had a 'perch' to the top level of the nest box, too.
And then we'll add some straw, and wait patiently for the eggs to come!
The chickens look very cozy.
Thanks Christy! I think they are, too.
