On Saturday, I was invited to two events: a goat show and a baby shower. I was very excited to attend both, so off I went to the goat show first, held at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds.
It was easy to find the buildings holding the goat show with all the 'Beh-ing and Neh-ing" emanating from within. There were rows and rows of pens filled with goats of all ages, sexes, colors and sizes. And there were goats and their owners lined up along the show arena, too.
The first arena held the Pygmy goats. It was fun to watch these goats and it was also fun meeting some of the owners from local farms and ranches I'd only known of or communicated with online.

Here's Kat with her gorgeous Nigerian Buck she raised by hand from just 3 days old.

While the show was moving along, Deanna's hubby took me to the goat pen where the baby Nigie wether was, so I could meet him.(He's the cutie in the center with the white around his middle) Deanna had named him "Crash".

I was surprised by this because Deanna had been telling me that his Mama is not very friendly and he was also very shy. Deanna had been trying to get him on a bottle for me but had the worst time of it until just a couple days prior to the show. But he had finally started taking the bottle and his personality seemed to improve, too.
Isn't he so adorable?! (I was/am smitten, I admit it!)

So, I bought "Crash" before I left the goat show. But I still had to attend the baby shower and I was already running late, so not enough time to race back to the mountains to our ranch and still get to the far SW side of Albuquerque for the baby shower.
So.....have goat, will travel. And we 'CRASH'-ed the party! (Couldn't help it, pun intended! hehe)
Thankfully, my sweet friend, Jenifer was very understanding and didn't mind a goat showing up for her shower and wasn't offended that some of the attention was diverted off of her for a little bit by the cute baby goat in her garage.
And what stories she will be able to tell her baby, when he grows up! I mean, how often does it happen that friends bring you a goat for your baby shower?!

'Crash' seemed to enjoy all the attention, even though it must have been so overwhelming. He's got a very sweet personality.
Oh! And we have since renamed our newest addition to Laughing Orca Ranch. He reminded me so much of a Moon Pie with his chocolate and graham cracker coloring and white marshmallowy center. So, from now on, "Moon Pie" is his name.
Welcome Moon Pie!

He is quite the handsome little fella;) I love the name Moon Pie too. What's one more kid at a baby shower eh?
Have a good day
Moon Pie is too adorable! We had 2 goats for a brief while. I gave them to a friend who has a fiber ranch; I felt they needed more of a herd - they thought I was their herd and whenever I went inside they baaaaaaaa'd for me for hours. They wouldn't hang out with the horses, and quite a few times just followed me into the kitchen. I adored them, but......
I love goats, and miss them. :0(
Congrats on the little cutie Moon Pie!! And the tractor. We have a riding lawn mower and an old trailer that belonged to Eric's grandparents. The kids (and dad too for that matter) could ride around all day long!! :)
That was the best story. Sounds like a perfect day to me! Moon Pie, what a great name. You are going to get hooked on the Nigerians. Is that your first goat show? I love goat shows because they tell you why they placed them and you learn so much more.
That will be the baby shower everyone talks about:)
Welcome Moon Pie
He is so cute! And what fun bringing him to the shower with you. I'd love someone to bring a baby goat to a party I'm at.
sea2shore,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment. I like what you said about 'one more kid'. Too funny!
Oh woolies! You must get some more goats. I was never all that attracted to goats before and didn't really understand why other people were either. Now I KNOW! Some goats have personalities more akin to puppies or dogs and are just so darn lovable.
Thanks again for visiting my blog.
Hi farm mom, thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nice comment. I had no idea tractors could be so much fun either. I just assumed that they were utiliatarian and that's it. Hubby and the kids are having a blast!
Hey goatgirl, Yep, first goat show and first hands-on experience with Nigies. I have to admit, I am completely smitten with Nigies! The goat show, like you said, was very educational, yet also relaxed, too. It was a great place to learn more about goat conformation and goat care, too. There's another goat show in May and I plan to be there...minus my check book, lest I get too tempted! hehe
Hi Christy, thanks for visiting. I always like to hear from you. Well, it wasn't really planned to bring the goat, but I just didn't have time to return home to the mountains and still get back in time. And I wasn't going to miss the shower at all.
The goat was a HUGE hit, though, so I may have to think about bringing a goat next time I go to a gathering. hehe
