J~is for John Deere and Jewels

Before I get started with the letter 'J', I must take a moment just to THANK YOU(!!) to all of you awesomely wonderful bloggy friends of mine. I so appreciated every single one of your supportive comments and kind words and understanding left for me in the previous post. I appreciate all of you, I really do.
And thanks, too, for all of the helpful and useful icy bucket tips and ideas and for sharing with me and others, how you handle pesky ice in your buckets.

Now, onto the letter 'J', which Ranchman John reminded me not to leave out one of the most important 'critters' on our little ranch. The John Deer tractor. Even before we moved out here, Ranchman John dreamed of his very own bright green tractor. Check out that happy grin, folks. lol!
It's a toss up between the horse and his tractor, for what's his most favorite. But he sure does love his tractor.
He loves to just take it out and give the kids a ride up to the barn or around the neighborhood. I wouldn't say the tractor works all that hard around here, but it is lots of fun to drive.
I was surprised when Ranchman John offered to let our sons drive it. The twins are 11yrs old, so I know they can handle it, but Ranchman John almost swoons when he he sees his tractor. I think he likes to see his boys helping out around the ranch, though.
And whenever kids come to visit, Ranchman John and the boys enjoy taking them out for tractor rides. It's always a huge hit.
Down the road they go.
And up to the barn.
Where are they going? They don't even care. It's just fun bumping around in the John Deere.
Jax says "Come back soon, y'all"!

Ranchman John wants to know if our readers have tractors, especially bright green tractors. (lol!) He also has a thing for Allis Chalmers tractors, too.
And, if you don't mind answering, how do you use your tractor?.

Now it's time for Jewels.....for blogs.

Lovely Victoria, over at Teachings of the Horse gave me a very pretty award. Thank you, Victoria. It's so tough to choose who to give these awards, too. I really just want to give them to everyone who reads my blog, because I enjoy so many special blogs. But I know when a blanket award gifting is given, many folks aren't comfie with grabbing the award. So, I'm going to choose a whole bunch of my favorite blogs, that I read for many reasons. But most of the bloggers below all enrich my life in some wonderful way:

CDN Cowgirl
Mell
Carolynn
Melanie
One Acre Wood
Stephanie
Kathie's Birds
Pony Girl
Callie
Gravel Roads and Daquiris
Cing Spots
Barn Door Tagz
Stef Roberts
Life at the Rough String

~~~~~~~~~~
And finally I decided it was time to design my very own unique 'award' to gift my readers. This one is very specialized and is for those bloggers who have owned, do own, and who love the Paint Horse. This is not a pass-it-on kind of thing. If I gift it to you, it's yours alone, to display on your blog, like a proud little jewel.
And here it is! What do you think?
These are the bloggers I know of, that love their paints:
(If I've left you out, please let me know, and I'll be happy to include you):
Callie
KD
Val
Arlene
Meg
Jamie
Ezra
Gail
CDN Cowgirl
Stephanie
Wrensong Farm
(I know it's not a horse, but her paint donkey is just so pretty!)
Enjoy!
John certainly does love his Deere!
And the kids have soooo much fun riding and driving it.
Aww- look at Annie looking!!
THANK YOU!! for the Paint award!
Technically, Scout is not a Paint but a pinto, because he is not of pure QH/Thoroughbred breeding, but, as you know, I did own Denver Dude, who was a registered Paint, and even has common ancestry with Baby Doll, and also, Neena Sioux. And, I have a neat old Tee-shirt that proves it, with "Paints - the sports model horse" written on it. So thanks again! I'll show it proudly.
All those tractor pictures remind me of one of my favorite TV shows: "Little People, Big World." I find it so relaxing watching that family work around their Oregon farm. They really love their Mule vehicles. I don't know if they've got a John Deere, though.
J is for Jimminy Cricket.
I am loving Rancher John on the green tractor! Love the boys driving it, too. Reminds me of my younger life, and now, when we visit my dad in Missouri, he often takes my girls for rides on his giant tractor-lawn mower.
Congrats on the awards, and how cool for you to design your own!
Oh! oh! (raising hand and waving it in the air) I have a paint - Patrick is a Paint!! He has spots and is double registered, has plenty of belly spots wild hind stocking and a chin spot - plus my APHA membership is current and he is technically the second paint I have owned. Can I have a paint sticker? Pretty please?
Thanks so much for the Jewels blog buddy hope you feel better! And on tractors tell him we don't have one but make do with a large 4-Wheeler. It plows snow - drags the harrow, pulls a manure spreader and a small flat trailer piled with hay on it. Wish there was some way to put a manure spreader on it.
My parents have a tractor, a big one, 4-wheel drive with a heated cab with a plow, bucket, tiller, mower, post hole digger and hoe attachments. We used it for everything. Helping to fall trees, dragging the logs around, plowing, tilling entire 20 acre, digging post holes, moving dirt and manure piles, dragging the pastures, moving hay, and moving snow - different from plowing snow like actually moving the piles of snow to other places to make room for more piles of snow. I am sure I am forgetting something.....its blue - its a Ford.
The blog JEWELS you pass on mean so much, thank you!
JEEPERS what is it with men and their vehicles? Pie wants to be buried in his truck... I told him that was too expensive. My alternative is to have him cremated and then put his ashes in the truck and have it crushed. *evil giggles* He really doesn't think that is a good plan. heh heh heh
If I still had my mare Rain I could apply for the Paint Owner "award" (nice job by the way!)
And yes, her name was Rain because she looked like Spirit's girlfriend from the movie. BUT I did not name her, she came with the name. *sigh* I miss her, she was a sweetie.
Great tractor pics! I think Paint Girl could use a John Deere like that! :)
I love those awards! Thanks for honoring me!! I've gotten two today, and it was not a good day at work, so these really, really helped to cheer me up!! YOU are a jewel, Lisa! ;)
p.s. the paint one is so cool. wish I had a paint! I could give one to Paint Girl, LOL!
Jumpin' Jahosaphat! Thanks for the award, Lisa! It's beautiful and I'll display it proudly.
I don't have a tractor or anything that even remotely resembles one. I own a condo so we have 'people' who look after our lawn. I always wanted to say that I had gardeners and now I can. :o)
J is for Jazu, my little Arabian who is my ever-patient teacher. His light little spirit makes us laugh all the time.
Thank you for the award. I did post it, but backdated it to leave the pix of the horses up awhile longer.
Hi Lisa ,
I thought I would answer your queries on solar / wind here just in case you did not go back and read my answer
Sorry Lisa to burst your bubble , When I was doing research one of the things I discovered was wind turbines are oversold on what they really provide , I am in the process of putting together a similar research page on wind but a few problems keep cropping up
1. actual figures provided by wind generators do not match sales pitch
2. Gaining planning permission is frightfull if you want wind as the option because of how high they need to be to make them practicle, they are also very very expensive
I am also looking at creating a geo thermal energy options section this might prove interesting for you to have a look at
Just too funny!! We don't have a tractor, but the (older) barn owner has a bright blue one and he loves our little boys and takes them with him when he's digging up the arena's or cutting and windrowing.
Thanks for the awesome paint horse approved blog jewel for my crazy paint :)) I love it!
Congrats on your award! And you made a fabulous Paint horse award!! We have a paint stud and a paint mare. And my Ozzie is a paint, but he doesn't have any spots, :( My two broodmares are going to have paint babies in March, I am soooooo excited!!
Your pictures of Ranchman John and his tractor are great! I love that he swoons over it! :) Men and their toys.
We have one large John Deer tractor, I am not sure what kind it is, but we used to use it to plow the feild. Now we have a front loader Kobota? Maybe, I am not sure, it's orange. We use that to haul stuff around, like dirt, sand, shavings, and such.
We also have a huge no turn lawn tractor, it's my father in laws, I drool over it. When he cuts the grass he can go like 10 mph and I am stuck with my craftsman lawn tractor going in third gear. LOL!! We have about 7 acres that we cut grass on. Fun Fun Fun!!
J is for June. Oh how I wished winter would fly by and it could be June. :)
Oo! Can I have one? Canyon is a paint/Arab...
Boys always love tractors. My husband is DYING to buy a tractor and we don't even have a ranch yet.
And what is it about riding in the back of a bouncing wagon?
:)
Jamie said...
We have a John Deere lawnmower - does that count?????
Bear loves his also....but he never lets me use it.... :(
Thanks for the paint horse award. I love it and can't wait to get it on my blog.
Have a Jubilicious day (I don't think that is a word...LOL)
That tractor is georgous!
How do we use our tracotr? Well, D and J use it to occupy time and cause frustration. It is also a good excuse for another run the the hardware store, the auto parts store, ebay and craigs list. I posted a picture of my guys with it on September 11 of this year. http://doublecatbatik.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Boy, are they envious of yours!
It doesn't run. One of the cyclinders needs to be machined and a new piston to fit the machined cyclinder must be located.
Gone2theDawgs said...
We have one of those "furiner" tractors, a Kubota. We use it for everything, even bringing firewood up to the house. I do want a 4 wheeler, with a mower attachment though, as the hills in my pasture are a bit treacherous.
Thanks SO much for the award, EEEEAWWWWW (Jasmine agrees) :) Being almost computer illiterate how do I attach it to my blog? (sorry)
Jimminy! Thank you Lisa, for the lovely Jewels award! I will put it on my sidebar as soon as I can figure out how! The 'add element' prompt has disapeared and I can't seem to find it. If anyone can help me with this, I would really appreciate it!
What a lovely life your children have! They look so happy riding and even driving the John Deere!
E. had an old faded orange tractor once, and ran a little tractor business with it. I think it was a Case.
Hey!!!!! I feel like I'm in my o wn little world here and totally clueless taboot!! I just now this very minute realized why you are doing the letter thing. Duh - a contest, where have I been?? I am so silly sometimes - kinda scary huh? Anyway, I wanna play too...so, "J" is for joke - as in the joke's on me...hee hee hee!! Hey, if you can't laugh at yourself, you sure can't laugh at anybody else (and that's no fun!). Thanks so much for the beautiful award my little friend. You make me feel special!
Some of you asked how to add things to your side-bar, so here's my basic knowledge of how to do it. (I'm sort of a techno-phobe, so I know just enough to get me by. lol!):
1)Got to 'Dashboard' (click on the link in the upper right corner)
2)Click on 'Layout'
3)Click on 'Add a Gadget'
4)Scroll down to 'Picture', Click on it.
5)You should have saved the picture/award to your "Pictures" folder or even to the "Desktop"
6)So, now click "Browse"
7)Once you find your photo (where you left it. lol!), then click 'Open'.
8)It will then load it. Be patient.
9)Then just click 'Save'
And if you want to move any of your 'Gadget' photos around, all you have to do is Right-click on it, keeping your finger down, while lifting the box to wherever you want it (up or down the column).
I hope my instructions weren't too confusing.
If you need anymore help, just let me know. I'll try to help :)
Your men look so handsome in their cowboy hats.
We have a similar JD trailer, we pull it with our 3 wheeler for little jobs. We also have a 54 ford that we use to plow the snow for our driveway, not to mention pulling the haywagon for Halloween.
I have always wanted a green John Deere tractor. It must be a green one. I still do not have one. Maybe someday I will. I do have a nice riding lawnmower though. Sadly, not a Deere.
Mellimaus said...
haha, those pictures with the tractor made me smile. When I was younger, my best friend's dad had a tractor and I LOVED it when he drove us around in it.
We have a tractor. But it's orange ;-). We use it for lawn mowing and recently I used it for driving hay down the driveway for days when Daisy is picked up for a show and such...
I like green tractors more then orange, though. :)
Thank you SO MUCH for the award! :D
Lisa, great pictures and good job by the boys.
We don't have a tractor so I can't share the joys of driving a tractor. We do everything by hand.
Poor me!
Thanks for the great award. I have saved, may never find it again but I have saved it.
J is for joy...may your day be filled with it.
Mark's been using our tractor to haul stuff mostly. He did use it to mow one of our pens. The tractor is a Joy to Mark.
KD said...
JUST looks like a load of fun playing with the tractor! We had a small John Deere when we first moved on to our 2 little acres, but it died and we got a riding lawn mower from Lowe's. I still call it a "tractor" and we use it to haul junk to the road, spread poop with my Newer Spreader, drag the horse pen and or course mow the grass.
white_lilly said...
Boys and their toys! What a great tractor John Deere's' are. We don't have one but one would be so handy, the grass grows so fast after the rains.
John deeres can be so much fun. We have a o-turn that cuts hubbys time in half. His name by the way is Jerry. Perfect for your letter J post. lol
All our kids want to drive the deere so we have lots of family fun too. I love the pictures. You even have the matching trailer.
Ha! My man is a John too!
We don't have a John Deere; but we have a New Holland. It's a 30 hp with a bucket loader, disk, harrow, brush beater, post hole auger, blade, and trailer. It's perfect for working up my arena, keeping weeds down around the alfalfa fields, building fence, plowing snow, hauling LOTS of manure and just lots of stuff.
It's too small to actually farm with, but it's perfect for the small jobs. Our neighbors who all just have really big tractors like to borrow ours for the little jobs...saves lots of labor.
Thank you for the absolutely beautiful Butterfly Award!!! Very touching that my lil' blog has meaning to you.
You're Paint award is wonderful...a great idea...my wheels are turning ;~)
