I'm beginning to think that Ranchman John fails to securely lock the Wooly's gate on purpose. All it takes is one wrap around the gate and post followed by the snap lock and they're in like Flynn. Otherwise this is the inevitable result.
The next on the scene is our resident goat herder, our GSD, Zuni. This is the reason why I think Ranchman John 'forgets' to secure the gate. He is working on training Zuni to herd the goats. She's pretty good at it, except she often forgets to listen to any commands and believes she knows the best way to get the goats where they're supposed to be. I watched helplessly from my tower window and worried about my sweet little Latte. She looked terrified.
Next up to be herded was Pepper. He's a wiley one, and fast, too.
Baby Doll says, "Run Pepper!"
Zuni, in her excitement ignores commands, and gets on the wrong side.
Somehow it worked out and she got back around. Jax tried to help catch Pepper, but fell over instead. Zuni stayed on Pepper's tail until he headed in the right direction.
Zuni turned Pepper over to Ranchman John, who opened the Wooly's gate so Pepper could run in.
Job well done, Zuni!
Whoooeee! The things I see from my tower window!

Okie Dokie, I just want to thank all of you who were so helpful in leaving your 'Buggy Lists' and sharing the things you like and dislike about where you live. I learned a lot and it was fun, too.
Several of you reminded me that I forgot to include my own 'Buggy List', so I'll include mine here:
~Location
Central Mountains of New Mexico
~Dislikes
1)Wind and sometimes freezing temperatures and lots of snow.
2)Limited variety of restaurants
3)No delivery (never was an issue until I couldn't drive. Hubby and kids are limited in what they can cook. My palate is bored)
4)Some people move out here and drive like they're still in the city
5)Those same people move out here and try to turn our rural mountains into the city where they came from.
~Likes
1)Fresh air, nature, grass, trees, wildlife, snow and mountains.
2)Quiet, gravel and dirt roads, no traffic.
3)National forest, BLM, Open Space and Wilderness trails right out our back door or within 10 minutes of driving.
4)Only 25 minutes to a major city(Albuquerque), 10 mins. to a major interstate(I-40).
5)Friendly people, small town feel, uncrowded post offices, stores, restaurants. People call you neighbor even when you live 5 miles from each other.
6)Never needing to use air conditioners (or swamp/evaporative coolers) in the summer. We just open our windows and let the cool summer breezes in.
7)Good weather and sunshine at least 300 days of the year.
8)The spicy winter aroma of pinon tree smoke from woodstoves.
9)Green and red chile and delicious southwestern/New Mexican cuisine.
10)Unique Southwestern Adobe style homes and Mountain style homes.
11)No cookie cutter houses and houses set too close to each other.
12)Big blue skies during the day and dark clear star-filled night skies.
I love New Mexico!
We moved here in 1992, from Maryland, and fell in love with our state. Unfortunately in 1998 we had to move, due to a job transfer, but we knew we'd be back one day. We leased out our home and moved to South Carolina for 7 years. I dreamed about New Mexico ever day and was terribly homesick. The humidity, mosquitos and monster sized Palmetto bugs (giant flying roaches!) in South Carolina were horrible. If it weren't for our camping trips to the beautiful beaches those 7 years would have been unbearable.
Finally, hubby and I retired from the airlines and made our move back to our enchanting New Mexico. Setting my eyes once again on the impressive Sandia Mountains, and seeing the sage and juniper covered high desert spreading out for miles, made my heart sing. I was finally back home!
In my music Playlist there is a song by Kutless, called "Strong Tower". The words of that song describe my heartfelt feelings towards these beautiful mountains that shelter and watch over me. For me, mountains ground me and lift me at the same time. The mountains fill me with spiritual energy, and I feel closest to God when I am closest to the mountains.
Well, there ya go. A lot more than you asked for 'eh?
What makes you feel more spiritual?
Mountains? Ocean? Desert? Church? Or just hanging out with your animals?

LMAO! Oh the goat wrangling is too funny and cute, Zuni looks like a pro! I can see why you'd be a bit worried, she does looked skerd! I'm so happy for you that you are back in your tower and can watch such things, maybe ranch hand John is purposley leaving the gate unlocked to give you some excitement:-) There is nothing funnier than a running goat...
I have some goat stories I need to post about...we don't have them anymore, but man were they fun!
Being around nature and animals, espcially cleaning horse stalls on a Sunday morning is more spiritual to me than going to church.
More Jingles for that leg!
I think rolling green fields are good for the soul. A mountain on the horizon never hurts.
Oh goat wrangling! What fun. Wrangling sheep isn't nearly as fun, they are hard to catch. My word verification is nekylace, seems dirty but decorative at the same time.
Location - NW NC Appalachian Mtns
Dislikes - a long ways from anywhere, long winters, backwards-thinking people, too many Floridians buying up the land, going-out-to-eat food no good
Likes- a long ways from anywhere, short summers, open-minded people, the blue mountains, easy-going pace
That first photo of the goats running was so cute. It made my day. I love how you wrote about loving your state. Beautiful.
And I was worried about you being bored in the tower!!
Sounds like you love where you are.
Zuni earned her kibble. That was actually a pretty good job. And good exercise for all concerned.
The most spiritual place for me is wherever I am for I know God is with me as he promised.
Dan
I noticed Baby Doll in the background..wouldn't it be great to know what she was thinking about all the action? Between she and you, I'll bet there was a lot of cheerleading going on.
Love your entertaining blog.
a happy tuesday lisa.
was cracking up reading the post today and following along with the photos. i am sure you were smiling from the tower (at least a little) while the show was going on?
but, i do understand your frustration on them getting out needlessly.
til later, hugs to you....and give oreo a scratch or two.
erin ^..^
Oh My Zuni is wonderful! I loved your pictures and was so impressed with how well she herds her goats. Amazing!
The goat wrangling, girl, at least you have entertainment!! Those poor goats looked like lunch there for a minute!! Zuni sure does a great job!!
And I must have missed your post about the bugs, I will have to do some back reading. The kids have been being a handful, really bad, horrible, children, so I haven't been able to blog much.
I think NM sounds wonderful!!! No bugs, windows open??? Oh can I be your neighbor? You, me, and Val can ride on the back fourty together?? I promise I will be a good neighbor!!
One thing about the goats getting loose is you're not bored in your tower with goat wrangling to watch.
From the sounds of it, you would probably be happier staying in NM. Looks like a pretty impressive list to reasons for that to be your home.
Spiritual for me would be nature and my horses. No doubt about it.
I'm glad all the goaties made it safely in.
I grew up in California and I miss the beaches, not the crowded touristy ones but the quiet sea lion mating spot, full of beautiful tumbled stones...
Most recently my favorite spiritual place has been Crestone, Co... we have family up there and its a tiny little town but it's very amazing.
I once read a quote about fence-building for goats. The gist was this:
"Once you finish your fence fill a bucket of water and trow it at the fence. The goats will go through where the water goes through."
Not entirely accurate of course, but I have never known creatures more driven to be where they aren't than goats. If ours manage to escape from somewhere they reliable stand around mere feet from where they were before, just happy to be on the other side of the fence. Troublesome and wonderful little creatures.
OMG, the pictures are hilarious. The first one really made me laugh. Needed a picker upper today!
New Mexico sounds nice. May have to add that to my retirement list!
My husband wants to move to New Mexico someday, because the skies are clear and he can play around with his telescope. I love the architecture and the art. All your talk about the winds deters me a bit, though.
What GREAT photos and story. Zuni sure seems to have the right idea and with a little more training Ranchman John will have her herding like a pro. It appears she moves well, those are some splendid shots, there's nothing like watching a GSD do it's work.
Thank You for sharing.
BTW my verification word was "flycoal", is that another name for fly manure?
Hay there Lisa!
GOATS!
Well, I feel most spiritual in church while someone sings from the heart and in the mountains at sunset on my mare's back and at the ocean at the top of a high sand dune looking to the waves. I can't pick ONE! It is where the spirit resides not where I go!
KK
Seems like all the animals are conspiring to give you a good show while you are stuck in the tower! Baby Doll looks like she wants to join in the fun.
Know of any houses for sale? I find the snow capped mountains so restful, the most beautiful natural sight to me.
Well I think for my friday funny post, I am definitely posting a link to YOU my dear. I about fell out of my chair here at work laughing so hard, looking at your pictures and imaging all that going on. I'm sure you were in your room going "oh! no! wait! no the other way!! ok good!! wait!! not that side!! ahhh! oh, there ya go!!" lol You and your little goaties are hilarious. I'm with the people who think maybe the hubby is doing this on purpose for some entertainment. His friend sure looked like a big help cough, cough. lol
If that's all you have on your bad list, I'm thinking NM it is for hubby and I.
I think being with my husband, kids and animals is what makes me feel most spiritual. Every time I hold the boys or are interacting with the dogs and horses (not so much fish or crab), I sigh.
Hmmm...something tells me Zuni enjoys that game more than the goats do. Little rascals.
The thing that bugs me the most about where I live is the cold & wet. I prefer hot and arid. I do like how everything is green & lush most of the year though. It's all about trade-offs, isn't it?
I have had some of those goat wrangling days, myself. Makes some bad words come out of my sweet mouth, sometimes.
It looks as Zuni and friends had more fun that I do with goat wrangling.
Great pictures.
Have a good day.
Pam
Church does of course, although I know it doesn't for everyone.
But being out in the mountains does it for me as well - but on the same level as when i travel down to Arizona to visit my folks in the winter - I feel the same way when I go hiking in the dessert.
It's also the same full heartedness I feel when I am laying on a beach down at the river in the summer time and sit up to see the perfect mountain reflection in the rarely still water that wraps itself around my quiet little beach.
LOL, what a goat adventure!!! The things you get to see from your window, maybe I can join you for a cup of coffee and some critter action down below? :-)
Over at our end, Sheba keeps wondering when we need help getting the goats inside, and since we so rarely do, she tries to come up with reasons why they have to be chased back into their pen...
Warm greetings from West Africa!
Esther
Thanks for the entertainment, Lisa!!
Kids, a husband, goats, and one GSD sure do equal a good time...to watch anyway...lol!! I can see where it would be rather stressful to watch though.
NM sounds just lovely, and I would love to vacation there (or just plain move there!!) one day. Wine tasting??? Sure! When do you want to go??? LOL!!!
Like you (gasp!), I feel closest to God when I am out in nature. The ocean, the mountains, the forests, out horseback riding or hiking...doesn't matter. :)
PS-Sorry about your burnt out palate!!! Kid and hubby cooking does get old fast, doesn't it???
Hmmm, I almost wonder if Ranchman's plan is two-fold. He gets to train Zuni AND gives you some entertainment!
I love the mountains and forests, to visit. Being raised on the prairies I feel a bit closed in if I'm in the mountains or forest too long.
Wide open spaces, big sky and 4 true season... my favourite parts of where I live!
Just came by to check on you, since I have been out of pocket. I hope you are feeling better.
Baby Doll was checking them out, huh? She was probably wishing she was out there escaping too. LOL
I have got to spend some time catching up on you and your healing. Just know I do think about you and pray for fast healing for you often.
Hugs to you
Jamie
That's hilarious. In a cute way. I love the pictures. They're so funny! You must have fun doing things like that, and I'm sure Baby-Doll enjoys the scenery!
Lydia
What a good dog! That will come in handy.
I am in Western Washington.

I know you get lots of awards but I couldn't resist passing this one along to you........somehow it just seems to fit.
LOL!! Oh my! I love the first picture of the goats running. Thanks for the laught.
I just read your comment and my heart aches for you. I have been reading your blog (i just am not big on commenting). Have you not been receiving my flow of positive healing energy? lol I am sending it, promise! Time passes slow when you are waiting to get well but when it is over, all of this will be a distant memory.
Yes I did hurt my knee as well. I will find the link to it. It was not nearly as bad of an injury as yours but I didnt get it treated and didnt do therapy, didnt care for it all and just tried to grit my way through it... and now (5 years later) I am paying for it. So my advice is to put in the time, do your PT, GO SLOW!!!, and DO NOT try to do too much too soon. Let it heal, once and for all, so that you can get on with your life. It is just like people that try to work through a sickness... they end up being sick twice as long and keeping get the same cold back time and again. Its better to just go to bed, take care of yourself and get well!
I am sorry to hear that you have a long road a head of you but am sure that once you get a little more mobile you will find ways to make up for any lost trips. Where there is a will there is a way. And by the sounds of it, you have a heck of a lot of positive will there darlin'. Crying and letting it out, having a little wee pity party is good for you! It is chicken soup for the soul... so long as you can let it all out and then pick your chin back up.
Hey, this website has been giving me some laughs lately... check it out. http://icanhascheezburger.com/
As for the risk/reward deal with horses... there is no easy answer. I had some MAJOR fear issues on the ground after a few accidents (my knee being one) that made me rethink the whole concept and take it much more seriously.
Hope some of this makes sense... its been a long day:)
I loved your post. I can see the dogs enjoyed there jobs. What fun you have to see this from your window. I would love to see New Mexico. You make it sound so wonderful. I saw it once from the sky on the way to Arizona in 2000. It was nice. I too love nature and animals. And find peice and calm in the out doors. I think I have a name for our farm if we get it in Aug. It will be called Rock Heaven. As It has the feel of heaven on earth that I so miss in my old home in St. Louis. The house is made of stone. And we have a high rock table here near the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. I also have your gift done. Just can not get to the post office as yet. We are snowy and cold.
Nothing like a little big of goat wrangling to perk up ones day! Great photos...enjoyed going along for the wrangle. Goats are so clever when it comes to getting out of their "disignated" area.
Loved hearing why you love living where you live...it truely sounds like "home" for you. I like Nevada for the simple reason that we just don't have a lot of people. Our town is small, but offers more than most other small towns in our state. I dislike the wind at times, but other than that, I pretty much love where I live.
Nature makes me feel more spiritual...just being out in the quiet beauty of the land, that is what works for me.
Hope your knee is improving and you are feeling better each day. (((HUGS)))
Nothing like a great goat caper! We find that a small scoop of grain and a border collie do well to wrangle escapees! LOL
LOL - I was busting a gut over the renegade goats - I can imagine all of this. We haven't had a good goat rodeo in a while but they sure are fun!!!!
Deanna
We, too, enjoy many of the same things you do at our cabin in the San Luis Valley/Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado. Does this make us "neighbors"? :o)
