I stood out on our bedroom balcony to get these shots.
There is something so exciting and free about watching a kite soar into the sky higher and higher.
Jax had some pretty strong arms out there trying to control his kite in those powerful gusts of wind.
A Boy and his Kite.
Check out skies from around the world at Sky Watch Friday!!!

I had a hard day yesterday. Hubby had to work most of the day and evening, so I butt-crawled down the stairs to help my twinlings do some laundry and make some lunch. I was greeted by a foul stench in the kitchen. There were dirty dishes overflowing the sinks and trash and icky stuff on every inch of counter space and on the floor.
When I opened the fridge I saw containers filled with moldy food and empty bottles and filth on every surface. I was overwhelmed, but I went to work trying to clean up some of the mess. The floor and counters and cabinets were grimy, greasy and sticky from my hubby's cooking attempts. The microwave looked like Freddy's nightmare. Dried up red sauce, melted butter and who knows what else.
There was a thick layer of grease on top of the stove and a burnt pan filled with solid grease on top. Hubby's attempt at frying hamburgers a day earlier.
My kids helped sweep, shake out rugs, and toss trash and moldy food. They took the stale bread and containers of noodles out to my very happy chickens and much of the rest went into the compost pile.
I couldn't believe how bad my kitchen had gotten in just a few weeks without me at the helm. I only made a little dent in the chaos before I was exhausted and overwhelmed. When I looked into the living room and saw the piles of clutter on the table and our Christmas Tree still sitting there covered in ornaments, I just started to cry. It was too much.
I struggled to butt-crawl back up the stairs and was bawling my eyes out by the time I made it to the top.
The phone rang and it was a friend from our church, another homeschool Mom with 3 kids, just like me. The floodgates burst open and she listened sympathetically as I blubbered about my struggles and difficult day. She prayed with me over the phone and then offered to help by doing some of our shopping (John just does not have time and doesn't know what to buy since he doesn't cook. The banquet potpies and hungry man dinners are making us all want to vomit) and providing a few meals through our church's support team.
I was so grateful I just had to cry some more. It's amazing how God knows when we can't take anymore and sends help to get us through.
When hubby got home last night, he brought in the mail. There were packages galore and they couldn't have come at a better time. I had run out of chocolate and 'Aunt Flow' is on the verge of visiting, so I was feeling rather fragile.
Earlier in the day I felt like I was at the bottom of a deep dark pit...and between my friend from church, my family....and my friends from Blog World, I was lifted up high to the highest mountain!
So finally, I would like send out some thank you's.
First goes to my parents, for sending me a get well box of goodies. The socks are very soft and cozy and my kidlets are helping me eat the chocolate while they take my temperature, listen to my heartbeat, look up my nose and down my throat, and poke me senseless with the needle that came with the Dr's Kit they sent. Thanks so very much, Dad and Mom!

Second thank you goes to my bloggy buddy, Gail over At the Farm. She held a little Limerick Challenge on her blog recently and she liked my limerick enough to send me these wonderful books and horse magazine. Thanks Gail! These are great! You're Da Bomb, Baby!

And a third thank you goes to my blog friend, Rachel over at Wilmoth Farms. She had recently asked for my address so she could send me a few of her handmade soaps so my shower time would be less of a struggle and a little more enjoyable. I expected a couple soaps, but was completely bowled over when a heavy box arrived. And inside a large adorable baby pink and chocolate brown gift bag were all of these items! Amazing!

And what really made me laugh right out loud, was this creatively written letter about each of the items included within the bag. They each mean something and are there for a purpose. There are even strict guidelines and a disclaimer, too! lol!
I am completely floored. Are you sure this is for me? Look at all these wonderful goodies. Check out the letter (click to make it bigger). Isn't it great?!

And you know I love this soft little stuffy! My daughter thinks it's hers because I already have one from my buddy Kacy. I suppose I can share a little. We can play pony games together!

And here are the soaps she sent, an oatmeal honey goat's milk soap and a Victoria Secret scented soap. Mmmm! And she also included some luscious body butters and a handmade lip balm. I love this as I just ran out of my Whole Foods Vanilla Honey Lip balm. I feel so pampered and spoiled! Check out Rachel's website at Wilmoth Farms Handmade to see the beautiful bath items she sells. Ask hubby to buy some for you for Valentine's Day...or treat yourself to some of her wonderful handmade bath products.

I also want to share this card she sent. It totally cracked me up! Rachel's husband just went through knee surgery a few weeks ago, too. So, she has a lot of understanding for what I'm going through.

I told ya it was funny! lol!
Hey Rachel, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the fabulous goodies. I am so touched by your generosity and kindness. Hugs for you, and give Norm a hug from me, too!~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I'm sure you've noticed my festive Valentine themed background. Valentine's Day is one of my most favorite holidays of all. Do you think it's because I have a romantic husband that takes me out to be wined and dined?
Nah.
I love Valentines Day because I get chocolate. lol!
How do you celebrate Valentine's Day? Any special traditions? Do you go out to dinner? Get jewelry? Chocolate?

Beautiful kite photos! We haven't flown kites in years. Seeing those photos makes me want to go out an buy one right now...but it is still too cold here for kite flying.
I'm so sorry about your overwhelming day yesterday. I wish there was something I could do to help! Dang it!! You are in my thoughts daily. (((HUGS)))
All of those goodies look just wonderful...that chocolate looks yummy!!=D The bath products look out of this world. I will have to hop over and check out the site.
Great series.
Cool. :)
Great captures, those kites look like alot of fun. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!

Love the card. I can't even imagine how my kitchen would look if I took two weeks off, and we don't have any kids! Just heal heal heal for now...the kitchen can wait, regardless of how disgusting it is. I know some people who live like that all the time and they're still with us. Even though it seems like an urgent issue nothing is in real danger other than your pride in your home. Once your feeling better it will take you a week to get things back to normal...no big deal.
Love your kite photos. THAT's making lemonade out of lemons. I have NOT been happy with the wind this week. I hate spring here. I hate it worse when it begins in January!
I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. (3-1/2 years ago I had a major surgery that required me to do NOTHING for 12 weeks. I had a 1-year-old and a 3.5-year-old at the time. We ate a LOT of fish sticks and chicken fingers... a LOT! I'm glad that just when you needed it most God sent some cheer into your life!
hey there lisa.
the skywatch photos are great...love them!
so sorry to hear about your nightmare in the kitchen...unfortunately it was bound to happen. if i were there i would have come in and cleaned it up and made you smile! unfortunately i am too far away to be able to lend a hand to you.
but i am sending you my good thoughts and some hugs (((())))
drop me an email with your addy when you've a chance.
until later...
erin
Wow! You are making one heck of a haul there, girlie! I LOVE soaps and gels and oils, especially those scented with earthy scents like pine, lavender, cedar, fir, pinon, ginger, mint, eucalyptus. What kinds of scents did you get?
Boy, you've just got days and days of birthdays or Christmas's or something! All kinds of goodies.
Neat kites shots too.
Just wonderful to see the kite against the blue sky
Neat kite pictures. As a kid that was one of my favorite activities in the Spring.
Dan
Love the kite pictures! I can't imagine what my house would look like if my husband was in charge of it for a few weeks, it would probably be easier to move than clean up that mess! My heart goes out to ya. Nice blog by the way!
Hayya Lisa sweet,
Oh that Kite is the best!! Looking at those pictures jsut really took me up on the wind as well..thanks for that!
Flying kites(you just now reminded me) is ONE verygood memory of my dad.
WOW you are making the haul there kiddo! send chocolate over my way, should get too much ((HA))
I love what your daughter said about you already having one Baby Doll horse! Too funny.
Yes He does know(God) how and when to assist us. He Loves you very much girl!!
I have that little "The way for Cowboys" that Gail sent ya, in my saddle bag for the trail.
Thanks for stopping in today...jsut a bit bedraggled myself and it was nice to hear from you. The ears are actually Pantz's from last spring . Soory to her that you may be in deep freeze longer. I think we may have it pretty nice her ein Oregons..though it does rain..it is GREEN!
XO Kacy
Hey there Miss Rapunzel!!!
The kite photos ar fabulous, and I am sorry that you crawled down to such a mess today. I can sympathize, as I am sure most of us moms can, with the whole house-falling-apart-when-mom-is-gone-sick-or-injured thing.
It sounds like your friends timing was perfect for that phone call!!! Don't worry, you will be the queen of your kitchen once again...lol!!!
Those chocolates sound great too!! And so do all those cool gifts. They just keep coming and coming, don't they???
Now about that injury and thinking that you are scared of your horse....QUIT THINKING ABOUT IT!!!! The more you dwell on it, the worse of a problem it will become...trust me!!!
You may be a bit nervous the first time you get back on, but it will go away. And if it doesn't, then that is okay too. :)
Why do men like to pretend they are genetically incapable of seeing filth and garbage when it's strewn around the kitchen where they are (or should be) preparing food? I'll never understand! Mine does it too, so if I was down for 4 weeks, there's no telling what the disater would look like. So glad your friend pitched in to help and give you an ear - sounds like perfect timing.
Dearest Rapunzle!
I'm so glad that light came through! It's so true that we never get more than we can handle, and from every bad experience, something new and good is born. I thought disaster hit me when I had a double malaria in 1998 (which cost six months), and then a serious concussion in 2006 (which cost eight months) but the time I got on my hands brought me closer to the L, and enabled me to step back. He has us all in his hands. And he loves us all so very very dearly.
Warmest greetings from my corner of the world,
Esther
it was really hard for me to read about your kitchen, i'm a neat freak and i would have burst into tears at finding my kitchen like that. oh, uh, i would have been pissed off, too, if my man had made the mess. whatever you do, please don't take a picture of the inside of the microwave/fridge/stovetop. i can't handle it!
i felt so bad for you, but i was encouraged to read this one line you wrote:
"My kids helped"
whew. thank God for the helpers.
and finally your church is helping, that's wonderful.

Beautiful photos...I'm always amazed at how blue the skies are out your way. Over here they are usually hazy, I guess that's why they call them the Smokey Mountains..
Sorry about your having a down day and crappy kitchen. I always wonder why other's don't see it, or don't care to clean it up. Maybe they will appreciate you all the more when you are up and running around doing your Mom things.
Remember we are sent things that we can do, even if at the time we're not sure we will survive through it.
Sending love and hugs your way.
Lisa, I was so sorry to hear about the mess in your house! And, please don't cry! HA! My hubby would probably keep our house cleaner than me!!! My birthday is Valentine's Day! That's how I celebrate it! No, really, the kids at school always have a BIG party! Hang in there! If you email me your addy, I'll send you a "goodie bag", too! Take care!
~~Cheryl~~
Hey there! you best take it easy or you'll put yourself behind getting back in the saddle! It will all come right (yes, even the kitchen!).
I am glad to hear your church family is finally lending a hand...God knows what we can handle and He promises to see us THROUGH it!
When I had heart surgery, it was just me and Trapper Dude and while he is an excellent Chef, cleaning wasn't very fun and laundry even less. He did a great job, but the first day I got up and saw my house...lets just say I cried a bit!
Guess what? Today it looks worse, and I am up and able!!
HAHAHAHA!!
Don't fret the small stuff...shoot, between the chocolates and the beautiful soaps, not to mention all the reading materials and TOYS, just hunker down and concentrate on getting stronger.
If I were near, I'd be in there helping you out. Hey...I got an idea here....go to my blog and send me an email..I think I can send you a yummy something for dinner with minimal fuss for the family.
Hugs and loves~
MamaBee
Ick....sounds like your boys are turning into the worst kind of bachelors downstairs.
Your day sounds like our weather...wait 5 minutes and it will change.
I'm glad to see you were able to turn things around and feel better.
You just reaffirm my observation that crying makes everything better or fall into place :)) I hope things start working out better for you now. I can't imagine not being able to do house stuff and having my hubby responsible for everything. I think it would be just as you described x's10 as my boys are smaller and have no concept of the term CLEAN. lol
Hey Lisa, I'm glad you liked your cowgirl survivtal kit! I hope it made you smile!
We have had an enourmous ice storm...the worst in recorded History....in my city alone, 607,000 people without power, and will be 3 - 4 weeks before we get any...could be longer....lucky us...wood stove and generator, and lots of beef! LOL So went to the only people around for miles to use their computer for a min....so wanted to say hi!
Rachel
Those are beautiful skies, looks like the boys are having fun with their kites. I could never get one off the ground and if I did it usually got tangled in a wire or tree. Anyway I think it's so nice that you received so many wonderful gifts from friends.
It is too bad that your kitchen and living area is such a mess. Men! I do wish they could learn how to clean up after themselves. But this too shall pass and it will get done a little at a time.
I do love Valentine's Day too, hope I get some chocolate too
The PT will get easier as you go along, don't forget to do it at home too!
Lisa.........
Oh sister girl, I would have been SO PISSED! You have every right to lose your mind and cry. Mr. P is great about keeping the kitchen clean, but NOTHING ELSE!
I would kick azz and take names, head would ROLL....
Your box has left on it's merry way to you.
Great skywatch pictures Lisa and what a cool kite!
Yikes! Your kitchen sounds like a nightmare. My husband loves to cook and he always makes a huge mess which I often end up cleaning up. I can only imagine the accumilation of mess after so long!
I am so glad that you got some lovely gifts as a reward for trying to tackle all that mess :)
Hi Lisa! Great Kite photos with that clear blue sky. I love the feel of a kite tugging in the wind.
My heart went out to you as you described your kitchen and I could feel your tears as you cried about the mess but that is all it is...mess which can be cleaned up and I'm sure your hubby will get in there and clean it for you. Don't go worring or kicking yourself about it. It was good timing or should I say God's timing sending help your way from your church. And look at all those gifts you have been showered with, there are a lot of people out there thinking about you and sending their love and good thoughts your way mine included. It won't be long and you will be up and running around and riding Baby Doll so hang in there :)
I love Valentines Day as well and I usually get flowers because I'm not a chocolate eater :)
Hugs
Sue
Think I'll just stick to commenting on the kites in your voluminous post! Some nice pics there, with that aeroplane novelty kite coping well it seems with the very fresh wind.
We mainly make our own, and they tend to suit very light wind conditions. A few of our kite designs can cope with fresh wind though - maybe your son would like to try one of the Barn Door kite designs one day. They are the closest we have to 'strong wind kites'. Also, we'll be adding a big Dowel Barn Door version later in Feb!
The 4th kite photo was very exiting. The larger view was very nice.
I love the kites. You need to let go and not worry about the house. My house is a wreck too. And hubby has the stove beyond dynamite taking care of the mess. But I am thankful he has cooked this last week or we wold not have ate. You have so many people that care about you. You are truly blessed. I wish you could look at this as a vacation in the tower of love. Every one is doing best they can. Perfection can take second seat to love and care. I know it is not easy. But hope you don't take offense. I have only this last year been able to climb out of my deep pit of depression. And I do not want to see you fall from your tower into that hole.
Big hug
Grammy
The simple pleasures in life...love the kite flying ...isn't it wonderful that your children find joy in the simple things!
I had to laugh about the kitchen...so sorry! It reminded me when I came home from the hospital after having my first son. My husband told me the house was a mess when in fact it was so clean and tidy. So..when I had Simon he told me the same thing and I was expecting to be joyfully surprised only to find out he wasn't kidding. I could have cried! I know the feeling and can empathize but isn't it wonderful you can retreat to your tower!!!
Tell Jax I am SOOOOO envious of his kite!!!!
I love it.
That sounds so much like me - only when I broke my shoulder. Me and hubby had a "come to Jesus meeting" after that - so this time around with the car accident things went a little smoother. Of course the missing equation here is kids - we have none so I can imagine how hard this is on you.
Keep it up - you may not think you are strong but you are - soon this will be behind and me - I know it.
Lovely things you received...you deserve all of them. I just got an order of stuff from Rachael...loved it all...My Man stole the sample of Body Butter from me!!! ;~)
Love seeing you in good spirits...despite the house being in shambles...all will get better.
