(I hope you enjoy the music selection, wink-wink)
Not everyone believes me when I tell them how well my two roosters get along. And quite honestly, their relationship goes beyond just getting along. I'd even go so far as to say that they're friends.
Sid Vicious, our Golden-Laced Bearded Polish Rooster is clearly the Sultan of the Coop. But he's confidant enough not to have to defend his title all the time. He gladly shares his castle with his minion and fellow rooster, Mr. Cotton, a Japanese Silkie.
Sometimes they partake in some friendly crowing competitions.
But they never interupt one another and things never get ugly. The two friends are just reminding other neighborhood roosters to stay away, that they as a team, rule over this flock.
This body language doesn't look too friendly, does it?
But Mr. Cotton doesn't get his feathers ruffled. And there are no misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Sid only wants to snuggle and hang out beside his buddy.
Sid Vicious isn't holding any grudges or giving anyone the cold shoulder. He doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. He's as real as they come and a really nice guy. Sid makes friends easily because he's a friend to others.
The Laughing Orca Ranch chicken flock is a fully integrated society. They don't judge others on the color, shape, or even height of their feathers. Everyone gets along and accepts one another.
Thay watch out for one another, and feel safe under their flock's protection.
Sultan Sid wishes everyone could get along and be friends to one another. What a beautiful world that would be.
Do you think you're a good friend? Do you wear your heart on your shoulder or are you more reserved? Have you made friends through blogging? Does this sometimes surprise you?
Have you ever been hurt by a friend or a fellow blogger? Are you still scratching your head 'why'? Was there a misunderstanding? Do you wish you could change things?
Or do you think, 'why bother'?
Why can't we all be friends?

I can't think of a more appropriate name for that Polish roo than "Sid Vicious". LOL It's great that your two boys can get along so good. That's pretty rare! Heck, it's a miracle when a roo can get along with a human! I enjoyed your photos very much.
What great pictures. Who wouldn't let a rooster who looked that impressive be the boss?
I just love your roosters! I love Sid. He is very cool! I am going to have to show my other half your roosters. I think he'd like them. Maybe we will be future rooster owners!
Sid is a handsome rooster but I myself am partial to Mr Cotton :)
(whenever I hear this song I think of the movie "Dazed & Confused" )
I love my little blogging neighborhood. And it does surprise me how that all developed.
I kept chickens many years ago and we had a Leghorn rooster named Chip, whom we eventually renamed Mick Jagger because of his strut. Man, was he mean. He had big ole spurs and didn't think twice about using them. He was the barnyard bully. He terrorized the Leghorn and Rhode Island Red hens
I never knew roosters could be such beautiful creatures! I wish the whole world could learn from them.....
I am so glad that you and your flock have been reunited. I suspect most blogging tiffs begin with a misunderstanding. It's hard to read people's tone when they write. I tend to interpret everything in a friendly, positive tone, hoping most people really are good at heart. But I've definitely seen a few outright cruel comments on some blogs. I think it is a good rule to say that if you wouldn't say what you say in a comment to someone's face, then don't say it at all. Ultimately, when we reach the end of our lives, all that's really going to matter is how we treated others along the journey.
Well you asked a few questions in your blog today....
I would have to answer yes to all of them.
Your roosters are just to cute!
How dare you taunght me with all thses pictures of handsome Sid!! You know he is my favorite. I want a rooster just like him someday!! I think he is so handsome!! I love that everyone gets along so well. It's really nice that you are able to get out and see your animals again. I love seeing how they are all doing.
And I have made many friends through blogging. It's been so great.
I love seeing your animals. And the fact that they are all NICE makes it even cooler.
I agree with Nuzzling Muzzles. Sometimes I hate emails because you cannot always tell the context in which they are written. Only I'm opposite of her in that I always tend to assume if it is indiscernible, that it's meant to be negative. Not that it always is, and that's what gets me in trouble because I start getting snarly back, even if it wasn't supposed to be that way. But then if something's nasty, most times I will just try to ignore it :) I will say that I'm super happy with the virtual friends that I have made as they outnumber the in flesh ones that I've been able to muster up. I don't know why, but it just works out that way. I think (one of) my very first post was about friends :))
How about someone who wears their heart on their sleeve while being reserved? There are some of us who are both. I'm very sensitive and warm-hearted and generous, but I am also very reserved and introverted. Only those who really get to know me realize that I really am a warm-hearted and goofy person. To anyone who only knows me in passing, I am pretty serious and reserved.
Beautiful roosters! I wish we were allowed to keep poultry around here. I would love some backyard chickens.
FINALLY I got caught up on you today! It looks like your doing much better and I'm so happy to see that! Still sorry about your chicken! what a bummer...I'd be so sad if I lost my pepper!
R U getting out and about more now? And how in the world have you been home schooling during this time? R U Superwoman?
LOL And to your questions....yes yes and yes..LOl I have one friend, who started blogging about the same time i did, considered her a great friend, but then she got all kinds of readers and she doesnt stop by much at all anymore...I guess she doesnt have the time for me, it really makes me sad. But I guess thats the world of Blogging...I hope that doesnt happen to me any more!
I don't want any roosters, but am glad yours get along. I have a wonderful community of friends made through blogging. Some of them I've even gotten to meet in person, and that's so fun! Can't say as I've been "hurt" by any of my blogging friends, but I do try to live by the principle that I should be thick-skinned when it comes to getting my feelings hurt, but treat everyone else as if they are thin-skinned.
OMG OM GOM G
Put back the chicken song!
I listen to it everyday!
Great shots!
My favorite chickens are deep fried, but your's are pretty cool.
You asked and I'll say I'm kind of quiet and reserved. I have a few friends, but they are good ones.

Lisa--My friend just ordered a bunch of chicks and Miles and I got to pick out a few of the breeds. I chose the ones that look like Sid Vicious b/c I think they are so hilarious looking! So they are coming around the 13th of March as three day old chicks...I'll post a pic of them as they grow.

oh Lisa, that song just says it all! Love Sid Vicious especially!
Your Sid is so cute, I just love his hair do and his name suits him right down to the ground.
I wish people could put away their differences and be friends. You know you use more muscles frowning than smiling.
love Sue
xoxoxo
Your roosters are just beautiful and maybe I'm coo coo but I want some chickens and roosters too. I would love to wake up to their crowing.
Your post put a smile on my heart!
Lisa, you really need to make a chicken calendar. You have some great shots of all your feathered friends.
I love your roosters!! Awesome shots. A calendar sounds cool for 2010!
I am a very reserved person until you get to know me, but I have no blogging conflicts, either. Ha, I never get emails!
Well, I don't know much about roosters but it really seems amazingly peaceful that they can be such buddies! Love it! Love the shots too. Looks like your hens are all happy you cleaned up their house the other day!!
I think Sid & Mr. Cotton could be poster birds for some deserving organization that promotes the spirit of cooperation & friendship. You have a great flock there. I'm envious. I think I have a crush on Sid. ;o)
OMG I just love it! They are so cute together! Guess you don't have cock fighting there:-p I hte that word, lol. Sid is just awesome! course I can't leave out Mr. Cotton... do they both fertilize the eggs?

"My favorite chickens are deep fried, but your's are pretty cool."
That made me laugh. Reminds me of a comment I saw somewhere defending PETA. The commenter was saying that he was very proud to be a member of PETA.
People Eating Tasty Animals.
Rap,
I love your roosters. Sid is such a kingly looking guy. I'm so glad they get along- and yes, we can all take a lesson from them.
I hope this post isn't the result of hurt feelings. I know it's easy to get the wrong impression from a typed message, but it's not good to be easily offended. (easy to say, often hard not to be.)
I would love to have Chickens but have no idea what they need to live in. I had chickens once and they wanted to kill one another. It was a very large pen but they still pecked on each other. I let them out and they rototilled my garden in one afternoon. I nearly cried at my lost veggies!
Thanks for sharing your lovely roosters with us!

Lisa,
I forgot to answer the question about being hurt by friends... I have few friends and yes, even the few that I have had hurt me. I guess I'm easily offended. My latest former best friend was single along with me for nearly a year and we had great fun but now that she has a man she doesn't call, no longer wants to go on adventures and even her horse (who is sitting in my pasture) is missing her. Oh-well. That's what boys do, they turn our heads :-((
Caprice (again)
I love those photos of Sid and Mr. Cotton. We had two Silkie roosters at one time and they were like that their first year and a half, then the fighting started and wouldn't stop. We had to seperate them. Now we have two roosters together and they seem to be doing okay....but the seven others are all seperate with their own girls. Countrychick has many, many show roosters for her 4-H project. I blogged about them all today.
I love it that you really, truly know your chickens and appreciate them. Fun stuff. I still fondly remember the "cake" you made them. :)
Hey, I've been here before! You know what that means? I'll all caught up on your blog, from the very beginning to the present! Not sure what I'm going to do with all my time now; hee!
