Well this post isn’t really about friends who are icy, unless you consider the fact, that the last time I had a post with only nine(!) comments was last October when Val and I did some letterboxing in Cerillos Hills, NM!
Come on now Blogging friends, where’s the love? :)
I hope you’re not holding it against me that I didn’t choose more blogger friends to give that award to, ‘cause you know I would have if I could have, right? But I had to be a good girl and play by the rules. You know I love you all and look forward to visiting you at your blogs every chance I get. And I get so happy when you all visit me and leave me such great comments, too. So, don’t give me the icy shoulder, k?
Ok, so let’s get to the real meaning behind the title of this blog.
Icelandic Horses.
My friend, Val and I were invited to stop by for a visit on Sunday with our dear friends, Dan & Betty, who live in the quaint village of Corrales, northwest of Albuquerque. I started following their blog last year when I realized they not only lived in one of my favorite New Mexico stomping grounds, but they had horses, too.
Dan & Betty visited me at the Laughing Orca Ranch last November. And I thoroughly enjoyed their visit and looked forward to spending some time with this wonderfully genuine, friendly couple again.
Val, of Fantastyk Voyage hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting Dan & Betty yet, but she had been wishing to experience the unique gaits of the Icelandic horse, for some time, and well, Dan & Betty own one of these unique horses. So, I told Dan & Betty about Val’s wish to ride an Icelandic and they generously offered the opportunity for Val to ride their handsomely adorable Icelandic gelding Morgunn.
And not only do they own the cutest Icelandic, but they also own a gorgeous Rocky Mountain Horse, named Sugar.
I helped Val, Dan and Betty groom and tack both horses while Val and I oohed and aahed over their beautiful custom made Steele Tree Saddles.
Val and Betty mounted up and posed for a photo.
And then warmed up around the paddock.
Val even tried out a little of that Icelandic tolt, too.
And then Val and Betty headed out for a ride on the sagebrush flats.
They rode for a little while and then Betty came back with Sugar and let Val enjoy more of the Icelandic experience on her own.
While Sugar showed some concern for her missing beau.
And I took photos of some of the visitors to their backyard feeders. (Quail)
After Val returned, all of us hung out at the barn with the horses visiting and enjoying each other’s company.
Both horses were very curious about my bionic leg.
And both horses and humans hammed it up for the camera.
Well Val and I would have been blissfully happy to have had finished our visit and headed home after all of that fun. But no, these sweet folks invited us into their beautiful home and served us up the most delicious lunch of chicken salad, broccoli salad, and dreamy fruit salad along with chips, cold drinks……and lots of wonderful conversation…..peppered with joyful laughter.
And you are just betting that I’m going to end this post with a horse’s behind and say “The End”, aren’t you?
Well, you’re wrong.
Although Morgunn’s bottom is so cute you just want to wrap your arms around it and hug it, I think you’ll agree that this is even more adorable than Morgunn’s fuzzy behind.
Yep. Visiting with special friends just feels so dang good.
Thanks for a great day, Dan & Betty!!!

Im not getting a whole lot of comments these days either, I think tis the sunny weather!
I love Icelandics! Heart is measured in hands!
Wow, that tolt sure looks smooth! Wow, Val didn't move an inch. Impressive. What a fun visit and great pictures. I love the horse lip, too cute.
Val looked like she was enjoying that ride on Morgunn! Looked so comfortable! Sugar is a beautiful horse!
I have ran into a couple Icelandic horses on our trails before. They are so pretty!
I just love your pictures, I don't know how you get so many pictures of them with their mouths open! I am not very good at getting shots like that!
Icelandics are really cute!
I am not getting many comments lately either. I hope it is the good weather! I know we sure have had some.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having a comments drought! I know my friends are busy this time of year too though.
I love those little icelandic ponies. If I was brave enough to have a horse, I would love one of those, or a halflinger. I just love the stocky horses :)
What a great day for all of you! I enjoyed "tagging along"..
Thanks, Lisa:)
How was the smoothness of the "tolt" (never heard that word before)? It did look pretty easy to ride!!!
Hi Lisa, I just want to say I have been away from blogging for a while and boy have I missed it and I have definetly missed you and your Orca Ranch. I love your beautiful photos as usual. You are looking great and it is good to see you getting around and how lucky of you to have such special friends such as Dan and Betty and not forgetting Val. I haven't been to Val's blog yet but I will be soon.
Take care
sue

You can give the Intrepid Award to more if you feel sooo enclined!!
I have wanted too also..why did I make that rule?...?
your landscape is so interesting - so exotic, and the terra cotta homes too. the colors in your photos are so intense, i think i'd go blind if i walked around in that area!
oh, how i'd love to see that area in real life someday. with a hat. and sunscreen. and sunglasses. and an umbrella.
~lytha
p.s. val must like it that her hair matches the pony's--i mean icy horse's!
I'd love to try out an Icelandic someday but I think I'd feel way too big. How tall is Val anyway?
I haven't had as many comments lately either... maybe I've just become too boring?
ps - love your final pic. I have a similar one of Kimfer's horse Baron. Sadly it is not digital :(
I'm not feeling the love these days either. What does it say when you post new foal pix and only get 3 comments??
Lucky Val! Icies ROCK. LOVE the tolt gait!!!
I have not been around much myself. There are some things going on here that have me... distracted. (Yeah, I guess that is the way to put it...)
I'll do better- heck, I might even get back around to posting on my own blog too... *sigh*
Much loves to you guys Lisa!!! Glad that you and Val got to go out- Dan and Betty seem like wonderful people!
some awesome photography Lisa, love it!
that last photo is price less ^..^
have a wonderful day ....hugs
Sugar was probably worried that Val was going to take Morgunn home with her. What's funny is that I've been thinking about doing a post apologizing for not commenting on people's sites much lately. Every time I sit down to read blogs or write comments, someone interrupts me and pulls me away from the computer. In fact, I didn't think I was going to get this comment out, because I got dragged away to deal with something else. Stop the insanity!
That horse looked like a puppy rolling over to get his stomach scratched!
Way too cute! Glad you were out enjoying the sunshine and beautiful day.
I gotta laugh...I think getting 9 comments is actually great! LOL. Maybe veggies just aren't as sexy and horsies?
LOVED the pictures, truly! That last one had me cracking up. I adore Icelandics but never had the chance to get one while we had the farm and stables (and a stepmom to take care of them..lol). I'm not sure if it is their height, their slightly babyish faces or what, but I adore them.
Super fun post!
I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of comments, It is spring and everyone is busy, I know I've had my share of trials thes recent weeks, which have prevented me from amking my usual visits. There has also been one hell of a rift in the cosmos, a lot of people seem to recently have a whole bunch of trouble come their way to deal with. The horse visitors and pics are awesome!
I think it is great that you have been able to connect with other bloggers in your area. And of course, the fact that they have pretty horses to ride helps, right??? LOL!!!
I have ridden an Icleandic horse before and a Rocky Mtn Horse also. I take it Dan and Betty are trail riders?? (In my experience, a lot of gaited horse owners like to hit the trails on those comfy ponies!!)
Looks like a wonderful day! See, when you aren't busy doing all the gardening chores, you have time for fun stuff! I want to go visiting soon.
Looks like a great visit! Maybe when you are back to riding, you can visit them again and ride their smooth gaited horses.
Lisa, great pictures and words to boot.
You and Val are always welcome.
Dan
What great photos. And the last one is even sensored with a strategically placed leg! Ha ha!
I've noticed a lack of comments lately too, but I hadn't considered that the weather might have anything to do with it. But I bet those who said so are right!
What a wonderful day with wonderful friends! Your pictures are always so beautiful!
That Icelandic is the most adorable little creature!! And, the tolt looks as smooth as silk...that would be nice on a very long trailride. My friend used to have an Icelandic name Snulah (pronounced snoo-luh), which means sweet in Icelandic, I guess. I love all their wooly bully hair and pony looks!!
Lisa, I am loving your new camera's photos!! What kind of camera did you get again??
Oh gosh I forgot - I LOVE that iron sun door behind your friend in that one picture!! Awesome!! Did you make that?? I want one!!
Ok, thanks to this post, I just spent half an hour researching Rocky Mountain Horses. I'd never heard of them; I'm so ashamed! :) Plus, I didn't know Icelandics were gaited--you taught me so much today!
Glad y'all had so much fun.
Don't mean to be 'icy'---just waaaay behind on reading my favorite blogs. :)
Fun post! You had two of my favorite people pictured. Dan and Betty are sweet, dear souls with very generous hearts. Glad you had a chance to hang out with them. I gave Dan a hard time about not inviting us out to meet you and Val.
You had some really pretty pictures in this post.
