I recently spent a beautiful sunny day enjoying some llama therapy. My Physical Therapist has encouraged me to walk without using my crutches and to place more weight on my leg. And because my favorite types of work-outs don’t involve hanging out in a gym, I invited a llama out for a walk.
I walked quite a bit, but not very far. I stopped by the horse paddocks to share a ‘llama hello’, but Annie wasn’t in a llama mood.
And Baby Doll just seemed pissed that I hadn’t invited her to join me for a walk.
After a while I got tired, so I just hand-grazed Cataleya while I sat on the prickly ground. Jax came out to cheer my crutch-less walking efforts and offered to take some photos.
Cataleya is such a sweet llama. She is easy to catch and halter, always gentle, and loves to be around people. I adore her.
The End!
But wait, you say! What does a little ‘llama therapy’ have to do with the title of this post, you ask?
Well, a llama was in da house, of course!
Sorry about the blurry photo. Jem was holding the camera, taking the photo and laughing so hard the camera was shaking.
Llamas enjoy visiting new places. They are very curious and inquisitive, and don’t tend to be spooky. Llamas aren’t like bulls in a crystal shop, as they are gentle and quiet, and walk softly. They also won’t poop in the house because they prefer using an already established communal dung pile.
I thoroughly enjoyed my llama therapy, and Cataleya says she can’t wait to do it again.

How fun! I am glad you were able to get out and enjoy what looks like to be a beautiful day with some of your favorite friends! Loved this post!
Walking a llama is a wonderful idea and I love the photos! I don't think the pictures in the house came out blurry at all. Jem did a fine job taking pictures.
Hey Val,
You should have seen it before I used the sharpening tool in my photo editing software. It looked like llama and human were one. lol!
Thanks! :)
What fun! Keep it up. You'll be back to fighting shape in no time, until then lean a little on the ones who love you, be they two legged or four!
that is too cute!
on our next episode of Llama CRIBS we have Lisa and Cataleya.
I want a LLAMA!
Oh wow, I love this post! So funny to see Cataleya in the house! I now want to try bringing one of my llamas in the house. Who to choose...
So glad to see you walking without crutches too! Yippee!!!
Great post. Love that llama! I didn't know how polite and gentle they are.
hey there...happy tuesday.
cataleya is a beautiful girl...you are so lucky to have her accompany you. and i am happy to see you walking without the crutches...even just a little bit.
weather appears to be improving there?
have a great rest of the day my e-friend...til later, many many hugs
LOL... wow... dont see that every day. Sorry I havent been able to comment much this past month but I still stop by daily... Glad to see you out and and about and getting better!!
Glad to see you're getting around better!
We have had llamas in the house. When our llamas were given to the 4H boys they surprised them by calling them out of their room to find their llamas waiting for them in the living room! And a couple weeks ago when our llama 4H meeting was rained out, the leader just grabbed her nicest llama and brought him inside, and everyone sat around and practiced their body part knowledge by playing 'pin the body part name on the llama' :)
That was awesome!!! And I had to laugh along with your son. I've never seen a llama in the house!! Oh...you make me want a llama so much. I've thought about adding this or that and then went on but I haven't gotten over wanting a llama!! Bentley told me they are for sale in abundance in NM. If you can have a llama in the house could you have a baby llama sneak a ride in an SUV????
I'm sure you could. Many people load their llamas ino the back of cargo vans and large SUVS. Llamas kush down so their fit in rather compactly into small spaces.
Llamas are practically given away in NM. On our Craigs List I often see them for between $100-$500 a piece, sometimes even free.
My female llama was a little bit pricier, though my gelding llama was only $400. It was important to me to have registered llamas so I knew their backgrounds and that I knew they would be easily handled, haltered, and could even be bred and their babies sold, if I desired.
Both of my llamas came from Indiana, from the same farm. They have been shown at State and County fairs and have won many ribbons, too.

Awwww Lisa, your llamas are so pretty and so friendly! I like the one where her neck is arched and you are holding the water bottle. Her beautiful hair is blowing, what a pretty color she is.
Hoping that your knee will soon be all better so you can ride again soon!
hugs.......
Jane and Gilly
Lisa,
First let me say, I can't believe the great progress you are making with your knee, it is awesome!
Secondly, I LOVE your llama stories, they are such wonderful animals and every time I read about yours I want to go hiking with them again like we did a few years ago in Wyoming.
Thank you so much for making my day :)
That's great. I wondered about the poop in the house, but you answered that question.
She looks like a sweetheart.
Dan
I always wondered what it would be like to bring a big animal in the house. My big dog and the kids don't count. lol I did let one of the dogs into the house though. She's the good girl. She's smaller, likes car rides, and doesn't try to jump up on the furniture. The boys love her, but she follows everyone around waiting for either a pat, scratches or someone to play. So she sometimes gets on their nerves. Not mine. I love her.
Oh, your Cataleya is beautiful! Nice to see you out and about! Great pictures.
Hurray!!!!!! You are walking with only a llama for a crutch.
I know you have been missing that time.
She has such a lovely, kissable face. And I've never seen a llama in the house either.
Oh, so good to see you outside again! I started reading your blog when you were still pretty much trapped inside. This is going to be one of the most uplifting springs for you, I'll bet!
Only, I got a little worried...is that a sunburn on your leg, or is the color just a little off?
Oh goodness, too cute at the end! Can you imagine doing that with a horse? Never a shortage of adventures at the Laughing Orca! Wish you had a bed and breakfast, I want to meet your animals in person. They bring you so much joy. I'm glad you were able to get out and get some fresh sun and a nice walk!
What a sweet llama girl! That was a great way to get needed therapy.
She's gorgeous, Lisa, and the photos are terrific. I'm so glad to see you walking without the crutches - are you going to make that a routine for at least a short part of each day?
Nancy in Atlanta
Ha Ha Ha! Cataleya in the house! That is just great. Llama therapy is a great idea!
We have taken our goats for walks on our property before, our neighbor takes their goat for a walk through the neighborhood, I haven't braved that yet! We even brought our goats home in the back of our big GMC Jimmy, we didn't have the horsetrailer yet, imagine all the looks we got! I have never laughed and cried so hard in my life. People were slowing down on the freeway and I was sayin' "Just takin' the goats for a Sunday drive!" (It was a Sunday!)
I love it!!! Remember that picture I posted of Sienna in the house??? Same thing!! :)
And look at you outside and in capri pants no less!!! Spring is here!!!
How fun! I found a llama ranch up by my friend, Barb, in the mountains! I'm going to have to stop by someday!
I'll bet the animals are happy to have your company again. You better watch out - you might get a llama knocking on your door all day and night.
I love when you have pics of Leya, she's so beautiful.
I haven't checked for myself but I've been told that around here (Saskatchewan) llamas are quite pricey.
It's nice to see a friendly looking llama. The ones I see at the fair always look annoyed at people in general. I've developed an opinion that they are all ticked off! So glad you have a loving one to help you back into the world of the mobile!
Sounds like a fun time and just what you needed!
Well, now you make me want to get a few llamas to add to our menagerie! :-)
Love the pics of Cataleya in the house, too cute!
Good luck with your therapy and hope you are all about without your crutches SOON!!!
I can't imagine a better form of therapy and it covers all the bases. Cataleya is a gorgeous girl. What beautiful big eyes!
Oh our horses would get wild with jealousy if they knew indoors was even an option for some critters their size! Cataleya is the coolest llama! I soooo understand why you all love her! Now, how difficult would it be to get a camel in your parts of the world?
Oh, I love the picture of Cataleya in the doorway! She has this look of total surprise on her face, like, "Oh, THIS is where you go all the time?!"
I am so happy to see you out and about with out crutches!! Way to go girl!! And you crack me up, with the Llama in the house!! LOL!! That last picture is awesome!! Love the angle and the blue sky, perfect!!
Lisa! I love the pic of Cataleya coming into your home...her hair appears to be standing on end -with excitement!
I am pleased to see and hear of the progresses...YEA... I did something that made me think of you totally today...it will be unveiled very sooon and you will like it , I think...not obamaee at all!(this time!)
Kac
P.S. You are a star photographer Jem!
Now that, my friend, is a creative work out. Glad to read your heart singing again.
I'm a little jealous we can't have llamas on our property. After reading about them here, I'm a fan.
Cataleya is so beautiful. I love the pictures of her graceful self and those big beautiful melting dark chcolate eyes!!!! LUCKY DUCK!!!
I need another cirtter like I need a hole in my head but when i see your Llamas - I think I wouldn't mind having one someday!
Deanna
You go girl ! You look very happy in the pictures. Maybe we all need a little llama therapy.
