A small adobe church, on the Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway in the tiny village of Golden, New Mexico. It is a San Francisco Church built in the 1830's.
We enjoy driving the Turquoise Trail through the villages of Golden, Madrid and Cerillos on our way to Santa Fe, NM. Golden is only 30minutes from from our home, and is our halfway point on the way to Santa Fe. Golden was, in it's heyday, the center of the Gold Mining district.
Views of high desert, mesa, and mountains surround this old adobe church. There’s so many interesting things to see and to explore here.
And this community store, built in 1918 is also located in Golden, NM. This is the only store. The post office closed in 1928, and except for a few hardy, independant souls, Golden is basically a Ghost Town.
Check out Sunday Stills for this weeks challenge and to see everyone’s photo contributions.
(The Barn Party photos will be posted after this one. I'm enjoying these weekly Sunday Stills Challenges and didn't want to miss it this week. Stay tuned for partying ponies!)

That adobe church looks really small! And I don't think I've seen that tall of a fence around a grave before - very interesting!
This really makes me want to go to New Mexico..I love the little church..awesome pictures!!

You have the greatest scenic areas! Why don't we have anything like that!?! I might have to move to New Mexico!
I would love to go and see that church!
That first one looks very deceptive - almost more a painting. And I bet the church is bigger inside than it looks! And a cool place to be in the heat of the day.
Very beautiful!
What beautiful places. I love the adobe architecture.
Too cool, I love the history of the southwest..:-)
And thanks for the birthday wishes..:-)
The church is beautiful and I love the first shot, the tombstone is also a great shot. You live in a beautiful part of the country.
That first shot is great, capturing the hills behind the church. Very good job.
I knew you would have some interesting churches in your area. Most of the churches around here rent out small square business units. There are a few that built new, modern structures, but I think it is history that makes architecture interesting.
Those first two are absolutely lovely. I too thought they have the quality of a painting. Love the sense of history, especially the grave with the tall fence- that's so Western! (Gotta keep the coyotes from digging.....)
Iwould love to attend services in this little church. I love the southwest.
What interesting and beautiful shots!!! Well done for this week's challenge! :)
I'd never heard of Golden NM and it was fun to see the old town. I like the way the hill behind the church is lit in gold in your first picture, and the little church is charming.
Thanks for the tour, Lisa!
So good to see you've been out and about. I really enjoy your photos.
Hey good to hear from you! I cannot believe you had snow the other day!
I just noticed your Christmas photo with your Llamas....do you still have them? When I took Romeo to the university the last time to get his check up there was a lady crying because her llama was not doing very well and they had to rush it in the emergency room ahead of us....I felt so bad for her....it had a kink in it's neck really bad and I guess had been down for awhile. I never heard how it ended. She was really attached to it. What a neat little town you visited. We have nothing like that around here! Love your Baby Doll's 16th Birthday picture....she does look like our Derby (Black/white Tobiano). Do you have trouble with her muzzle getting sunburned in the hot months? We do....have to put sunscreen on her. Have a great Sunday! Lu
Wonderful, wonderful post!
The adobe church looks really small, like not tall enough for people. I love the cemetery shots. I went into a cemetery for mine today.
Mine is up over at the photo blog.
I love how you enhanced the photo with the gold tones. I remember our visit there like it was yesterday. What fun!
enjoyed this post...went through this area many years ago...loved all you photos :)
thanks for sharing with us...have a wonderful afternoon...many hugs
Oh that is too gorgeous..the blue church and the yellow hillside together!
Love it!
YOU have a Special~Something over at my place ...just a waiting....
Lisa, love the first picture, makes the roof and cross on the church look turquoise colored. The golden hills are beautiful!!!
The colours in that first shot look surreal. Wow.
There's something about old cemetaries that I love.
Wonderful post and photos! The old church is stunning and the cemetary lends itself to many questions of the long ago past. Thanks for sharing.
loved the 1st photo of the church!!!
Oh cool! I really like the first photo! That is amazing!
Lovely photos, especially the top image, love the contrast color in the mountains!
Excellent shot, Lisa! NM and its heritage are fascinating to behold.
The church is quaint, and I love the little clay pot underneath the headstone in the cemetary. :)
love the colors, the first one almost doesn't look real!
Very nice pictures. I love that area.
It was great to visit with you and Val today.
Dan
It's been too long since I've been in this part of the country and I dearly love just driving around NM. Thanks for the trip.
The first church was so wonderful it reminded me of claymation art.
Great pictures, with history.
Thanks.

I want your camera so ad it takes the best pics!
Beautiful NM shots....I SO want to visit!!
What an adorable church! Very nice photos!
Really cool photos, I haven't been up in that area in ages. I was born in Santa Fe, but we were living in Madrid at the time.
Wonderful photos! I especially like the first photo..it is almost like a painting. I enjoyed your Birthday party on the way in also..what fun:)
Awesome! The church is postcard-perfect.
