Bugged

Well yesterday’s doctor appointment didn’t give me any definitive answers as to why I can’t bear weight on my left leg or why I feel sharp pain on the left side of my left knee. Or even why I’ve had so much swelling around the left kneecap.

I had x-rays done and the doctor manipulated my leg and knee and had me do several exercises lifting and bending my knee and leg, none of which were painful. Mostly just uncomfortable. The doctor didn’t seem too concerned that anything serious might be going on with my knee, though he did order an MRI, which I have to wait for until the end of May, due to no openings and my doctor going on vacation the next two weeks. But thankfully much of the swelling has gone down.

The bruising on my arm, from where the pipe railing slammed into me, surprises me daily with interesting colors. The black, purple and green was particularly vibrant. Those colors were a little difficult to coordinate with clothing or accessories, though. Today’s colors seem to call out for military boots and camo gear, don’t you think?

And my black eye has turned a lovely yellow tint.

So, I suppose I have much to be grateful for. I know it could have been so much worse. But I’m not a very patient person and even though I’m a go-with-the-flow kind of gal, I get annoyed when I can’t do things myself.

If my first fall was supposed to be a lesson in patience and letting go of control, I guess I failed miserably. I just don’t think it’s fair that I’m forced to go through a remedial lesson before I’m given my diploma of freedom and a celebratory margarita.

So basically, I’m supposed to rest, apply ice, take my pain medicine, do my physical therapy exercises as tolerated, and wait until May 27th for the MRI. I’ve got a little secret wish that the MRI won’t even be necessary by then and I’ll be walking normally again.

A gal can wish, right?

But I’m still bugged that I don’t know why my knee is painful and I can’t even walk. Waiting is definitely not my forte.

I also just want to tell all of you thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all of your kind words, support and encouragement. Your comments and e-mails are much appreciated. This has been a challenging time for me and it’s meant so much knowing I’m in your thoughts and prayers, and that y’all are pulling for me. Thank you.

Hugs and Smooches from me to you!

I'm sorry you've had it so rough lately. I will be crossing my fingers and hoping things get better soon. Keep the faith!

Looks like you are on the mend? no?

I'm sorry to hear that the MRI is out so far , it would be nice to get an answer ASAP. I'm, all about instant gratification ya know!

You'll be back on the trails before you know it!

Man, I am so sorry, you would think by now you would be running the fields...right?

Sorry you are still in so much pain. I had to have a procedure done yesterday and I can honestly say, it was painful and today, not much better....oh well. Such as life right?

I am thinking about you! Hope you don't need the darn MRI at the end of the month!

Bruises are beautiful you know.

I know an artist around here that photographed them. Got some award.

The mantis looks all shiny like....ewww. The females do kill the males though so they are alright in my book ;)

Think positive, girlfriend! The mind has an amazing influence on the body. If the doctor isn't worried, then don't you either! And don't just hope you'll be walking by late May -- BELIEVE it! :o)

I will keep you in my prayers...keep thinking positive...today you are better than you were yesterday!!

P.S. Horse-inflicted bruises are so interesting, aren't they? The last time I fell off Panama (which was also the worst, incidentally), I bruised my hip so badly I couldn't walk until the next day, yet it was DAYS before a bruise showed up at all. The same thing happened to my trainer, whose new horse kicked her in the chest with BOTH back feet two winters ago.

Best wishes! Oh, by the way, that bruise is quite interesting on your arm... camo definitely would suit it well.

Lisa, are you taking any supplements? MSM, glucosamine and chondroitin will help tremendously. MSM realy helped me after my knee surgery. It helps with the inflamation among other things. The only advise I have about it is not to buy any that come from China, go made in USA only, Chinese water is not very clean, American made in distilled so it is pure. I am sure there is a lot of info on the net about it.

Lisa, I'm with you! I can't even THINK about having another MRI. Every time I do, I have to pay about $800 of it myself! YIKES! So, like you, I'll "rethink" that! I would, however, like to go back to my back doctor and see if I can get a referral to a podiatrist for special shoes because by the end of the day, my feet are KILLING me!!!

Lisa, Lisa, Lisa...what are we going to do with you?!? I'm so glad you didn't get hurt any worse than you did...with that pipe hanging off of Baby Doll, that was a major accident that was avoided thank God.

We'll keep you in our prayers. Keep your spirits up girl...I'm sure it's tougher than I can imagine.

Arnica gel dear girl, it'll take down that bruising tight away and have you heard of reflexology? Look it up.
A book I use for our use is The Art of Reflexology by Inge Dougans with Suzanne Ellis

Well, it seems like good news that the Dr. couldn't find anything. Try to take it easy, I know it is hard!

Girl, it looks like you've taken a beating! I guess it's good that the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with you but I firmly believe that when we hurt like that and can't walk, it's your body telling you something is wrong! I definitely think you should add a little cocktail with those pain meds and enjoy your R&R until your MRI.
Please take care,

OK, who's the jerk who hit you? Lemme at 'em! I sure hope things improve with your knee. It's no fun to not be able to walk pain free.

What in the heck has been going on?
I get away from blogging for a couple of weeks and all Heck breaks loose!!
Did you tick off a leprecaun or what? Sounds like you have been having some of that Black Irish Luck.
I think I am going to have to bring a couple of gallons of Uncle Jack out there and make you feel better if nothing else.
Wishing you well! ((()))

I am praying for you by name daily. Having the MRI not be necessary is perfectly plausible :-)

Wow! I've always enjoyed your being colourful, but more in a story telling and photo way. NOT in a bruised and banged up way!

I'll keep you in my prayers for a full recovery :)

I get bugged about that kind of stuff too - it's like they don't really know what's wrong but won't come right out and say it....

Oh well, we will both continue to improve and hopefully nothing new will turn up on the MRI...

I am so glad your knee is okay. I bet it just got a little strained. You will be back up and walking in no time!! What a great sigh of relief. And those are some fantastic bruises!! Wow!! All for trying to de worm your horse. Sigh......I am glad you are doing better and the Dr. said it seemed to be okay. Just give it some rest time and if you have to wear your brace again. Hope you can get up and walk soon!!!

Unknown said...

Darn. I was hoping for a miracle. But I guess not being hurt worse is the miracle.

Keeping you in my thoughts and heart. Hang in there...

Ugh! Nothing worse than waiting for stuff to tell you what's wrong. Or what isn't and then you still have a mystery. And that is some NASTY bruise!! I'm reading backwards catching up on everything and can't wait to find out what that came from. Bruises, black eyes, you are getting yourself in some real trouble there girly!! I do hope the MRI points to something that helps assist in your furthering getting better though. My fingers will be crossed for you.

Hey Lisa,
I'd hate to see what the other fellow looked like! Just kidding.
Hang in there. I know you're a tough cookie.
The worst has to be behind you now.
Keep your chin up.
