Mare Watch Monday and Contest!

Annie~aka~Fantastyk Gal is growing bigger every day. Everyone around here is getting so excited! Val of Fantastyk Voyage has decided to host a Foaling Contest, too!! With a prize and everything! So hurry over to Val's Fantastyk Voyage Blog to place your guesses on Annie’s foaling date/time and the color and sex of the foal.

And here’s a few photos of a very pregnant Annie, taken Sunday evening.

She seems to want attention and affection from humans, but from her horse herd she has been keeping them under control, moving them around and away…just because she can.

There is a noticeable dip on either side of her tail bone. We’ve read that the sacra sciatic ligaments will relax and drop down 2-4 weeks before foaling.

Annie’s teats have become noticeably bigger and have firmed up. Val noticed a yellowish discharge from them today, too.

Annie’s abdomen has dropped substantially over the past week. There is barely any indentation between her barrel/side and thigh/hip anymore. And her milk veins seem to be developing and swelling, too.

Although she is tired and moving rather slow, she is still doing an impressive job proving to her herd trio that she is still alpha mare, controlling their movements when turned out together. But towards her humans she is sweet, gentle, and seeks out petting, scratching and attention.

Don’t forget to visit Val's Fantastyk Voyage Blog to enter the Foaling Contest.

And come on back and join me next week for Mare Watch Monday!

Awww.... this post brings back memories of when Stylin foaled back in May of 2005. I got to watch the whole thing.

Wow, she is getting close, it looks like - how exciting!

I have missed a lot here, Lisa, and just caught up. So sad to hear that you're considering selling Baby Doll. That must be a difficult decision - hopefully you'll find someone who really clicks with her and takes her issues in stride. I've heard many people say that with mares it can be tricky to bond, but once it happens, the relationship is truly magical. It would make things so much easier if you could find a leasee to work through the issues, fall in love, and offer to give Baby Doll a lifetime home. I hope that happens for you AND for Baby Doll.

Take care.

As much as I'm hoping that she'll foal soon, I'm hoping that she'll hang on too. Today marks the 319-320 day of gestation so any time would be good now. However, being a maiden, and an older mare, I expect her to hang on a bit longer.
Thanks for spreading the word on the contest. Come on over and place your bets, people. www.fantastykvoyage.blogspot.com

I had to laugh at the picture of her milk bag. I just wish I could have been there to take of picture of whoever was taking that shot!

If only she could talk...she would be saying.."that's it, this is my last foal!" Poor Baby, she ceratinly is in good humor to let you take all those "personal" photo's of her!!! LOL

The waxy discharge on hr teats are a sure sign she is getting near - ten days maybe. How exciting! Keep us posted, can't wait for the new arrival.
