I didn’t notice until after I uploaded my photos that this poor critter had lost one one of his legs. I shouldn’t laugh but I kept picturing him wearing a peg leg like a pirate and yelling ‘aaarrgh!’.
“Aarrgh!”
And another photo of crinoids fossils taken during our mountain hike last week.
Check out Macro Monday to see views of the world from close-up.

Holy S! That is some great macro photography! Forget my mom, I'm getting a Canon as a backup for my Nikons..:-))))) Pirate hopper, too funny...
if i were a bug, i'd be very intimidated!!
i had a giggle over the leg thing :)
-is that mean(?)

And a tiny parrot on his shoulder.
Wow those are amazing photos! And thinking of him as a pirate IS funny, but it is sad that he lost a leg. Great posts!
Oh my! Such great shots! Amazing what you get with your little camera. Good job.
You captured that critter just fantastically!
Great pics! I love grasshoppers. They look so robotic. I don't think he used that leg so much--just for a bit of balance.
The pirate thing was just wrong...but I LOLed.
What a grasshopper you have there.
now I have a picture of your grasshopper with a sword and eye patch...too funny...great photos
I LOVE fossils - thanks for the pictures today and in your earlier post on your hike!
Couldn't you photoshop an eyepatch for the pirate? LOL! Actually, it's more of a GOL (giggle you know what) I used to dream of doing macro photography - but yours is absolutely fantastic!

Cool pics! Poor grasshopper!
How funny!!! A pirate grasshopper! I am LOL at what others have said about the tiny parrot, eye patch and a sword!!! What about knee boots, gold earring and a hat???? LOL
Great shots!!
hugs...

Good contrast between the pirate grasshopper and the background, and that's a lot of fossils on one rock.
Excellent pictures close-up. It must inconvenience the insect to go about life without a leg. Wonder how that happened!
The picture of fossils is very interesting.
Very cool macros! Looks like he is getting around OK as a pirate hopper. We have a chicken with disabilities named Captain Ahab, after the peg leg character in Moby Dick. He came as a peep with a bent, dislocated leg but we love him anyway. I am planning a prosthesis project for him! LOL.
WOW! Really great shots.
Did Ed say "Forget Mom"?? We'll see. LOL
Your welcome for the gift Lisa.
There should be a gift code I believe. It's for a year of premium service with Picnik..Enjoy. and I want to see the results of all your playing around.
All he needs is an eye patch and a parrot on his shoulder - aarrgh!
Those are some seriously awesome close-ups Lisa! Fantastic job. Well done.... *applause*
Loved the other comments about the tiny parrot, eye patch, etc. :)
With all respect to your handicapped grasshopper, I love the fossils best.
Great photography.
I wonder if they make peg legs small enough?
Dan
Amazing macro. The detail is stunning. He looks down right scary so close up. I can just see him with his eye patch and bottle of rum!
