Ok, I’m weird. I’m making a post about our Walmart.
Even though my hubby worked for our local Walmart for 6 months, I have to admit that I’m not fond of Walmart. The way they treat their employees, especially with their health insurance practices, is appalling. Even when my hubby worked for Wally World and we received a nice little discount at check-out, I rarely ever shopped there. In the past year, I’ve probably shopped at Walmart less than 10 times.
Shopping in a Walmart is like walking into a casino. You lose track of time and can waste way too much money inside.
After a Walmart visit I’m exhausted, so I prefer to do most of my shopping at our local grocery store, Family Dollar and feed stores instead.
But with all that said, I have to admit that I actually like our local Walmart. The parking lot is rarely crowded and the wait is never long in the check-out lines. And I don’t have to drive 30 miles into Albuquerque, but instead it’s only 6 miles to shop locally at our Walmart.
But that’s not the only reason why I think our Walmart is cool.
Our Walmart has cows. (View from our Dairy Queen)

On the other side of this field is the grocery store that I usually do my shopping at, as well as the Micky D’s that my kidlets often talk me into buying them a hot fudge sundae after we’re done our shopping.
So, what is your Walmart like?

If the nearest Walmart here had cows, I might like it better. Ours is next to a casino. Bah.
HOWEVER (good Walmart story):
When Jim was ready to buy Hana, we arranged with the sellers to transport her halfway. There is a Walmart at the midway point, and (as everyone knows) Walmarts have big open parking lots with easy access for big rigs (or in our case, a truck pulling a horse trailer).
He was so eager to be buying his own horse at last that we arrived 2 hours early. It was the week before Xmas, and Jim skipped through the store (I'm not joking, he skipped, age 42 and he skipped)and told every kid he met that Santa was bringing him a pony. And when those kids got to the parkinglot, sure enough, there was that old guy with the beard, and he was getting a horse.
Wouldn't you HATE to be those kids' parents?
Hee hee.
I am seriously anti-Walmart. They crush small businesses (like mine) with unfair practices which they get away with because they are an 800lb gorilla and no one can afford to say no to them. It makes for a very un-even playing field.
I love the pony story though :D
Wish my Walmart had cows! We have Home Depot on one side, and a bunch of small stores on the other.
I actually don't like Wal-Mart. I have only been in one, once. I did not like my experience there at all, so I haven't been back.
I love how yours has cows! That is pretty cool!
I too can count on one hand the times I've been to a Walmart. I am a Targee' girl!!!
Our walmart is awful! Smak in the middle of town, crowded, and it takes at least an hour to get in and out for one thing...Needless to say it's United Grocery, Atwoods, and Dollar General for us!
There is no walmart in Seattle, and there is no walmart anywhere near us in Germany.
There was walmart in Germany a few years ago, but that did not go over well. One stop shopping does not exist here.
My man really would have liked a pic of your DAIRY QUEEN, his favorite place on earth.

Well there is no Walmart where I live. I have 2 options and that is drive an hour to the city and go to one of their Walmart's but they are always crowded and I hate them!! The other option is another town about 45 minutes away and they have a new Walmart and I like that one the best because the parking lot is never full and the store isn't overly packed with people!! But all in all I don't mind Walmart :)
That's a hilarious santa story!
No Walmarts here in England - and I live out in the sticks, where we have to do all our shopping at small village stores. (Whoopee for the internet, where you can buy any thing you dream of!)
I have never been a fan of WalMart for all the reasons listed. However, since my husband has been horribly underemployed for way too long, I've developed a genuine appreciation for WM. I go to the one closes to my work which is ginormous. Their gas is 8-9 cents a gallon cheaper than anywhere else. I don't do all my grocery shopping there, but I do quite a bit. My biggest complaint is they don't carry many of the brands we prefer. And I am compelled to go to the Kroger for freshly made tortillas.
I'd say it's a love/hate relationship.
Our Walmart is crowded with never enough lanes open, full of rude people, and I always end up spending more than I want. Unfortunately it's the only place to shop around here in the mountains...
I go to wal-mart, but I have to say that I would rather skip it and just go to the grocery store instead and most of the time I do. I only go to wally world when I absolutely have to. I wish we had cows next to ours! I love my local Tractor Supply! Agway, etc.
cute story lisa.
our walmart is perched on a little hill that looks out toward the blue ridge mountains...of course there was a whirl of controversy over the store being built where it was...walmart always seems to generate a lot of negative publicity for some reason.
have a good day my e-friend.
hugs
Which one? There are at least 3 here in the desert. ALL are SUPERWal-Marts! The first time I walked into one, I got LOST and couldn't find my way out! HA!
Dude, our Wally World is a NIGHTMARE.
No, seriously-- its a NIGHTMARE.
Trust me! I only go with my (armed) husband....
I was surprised to read so many anti-Wal-Mart comments. We do our major once a month shopping at our local Super Wal-Mart (it's 35 miles from us). Our local grocery stores are way to expensive for us as we live on Social Security. I have noticed that the prices are going up at Wal-Mart also. We are off to do our shopping tomorrow and a severe cash of cash register shock!! :)
I love that picture with the orange ground and blue sky. Our town is up in arms because a Wal-Mart wants to move into a very rural spot. I would have to battle vehicles going in and out of their parking lot in order to get to the Fairgrounds to ride the horses. Right now we go up to the Wal-Mart in the next city if we need something. I'll buy bulk paper goods and cereals there once every few months. I'm that lady with the huge bag of T.P. who Jack of Jack-in-the-Box thinks has a fiber problem. Their auto mechanics were really nice to me by bringing a battery to me when my truck's battery died in the parking lot across the street from them, so I bought them boxes of donuts to thank them. They had some problems and it ended up being an all day ordeal with the mechanics using their personal vehicles to shuffle me and the batteries back and forth -- something they weren't supposed to do, but did out of the goodness of their hearts. I do prefer my local supermarket, though, because while it is more expensive, they still offer the service of unloading your cart, bagging and reloading your items, and then loading them into your trunk for you. The lines are shorter too.
HA! BTW...have you looked at the People of Walmart web site? WEIRD!
I'm Targee too (they have much better employee policies and give far more back to the community), but I try to shop at locals only.
When we were traveling in our Airstream for a Summer they are nice to let people park there. That's the only nice thing I can say about them.
O.K. being a driver I love walmart, because I can save money and you can usually get a big truck in the lot, but compared to truckstop prices you can't beat wallyworld. I was just in one yesterday in Greenville NC. Cool shots..:-)))
I don't like promoting big retail but I go to our WalMart frequently, I can't help it, I save so much money. The SuperWalMart a county over is even better. Feeling guiltly, I'm a hypocrite, because I truly believe in buying local and yet I'm patronizing WalMart.
I shop at Wal Mart for 2 things Coffee and Dog food. I hate going there, the line ups are ridicules they let people stand around for ever. A lot of the employees are openly rude, I don't know if that's a by product of their working conditions or if there are just a lot of rude people in this area.At any rate we don't have cows to look at at ours. We have a Home Depot, Marks Work Warehouse a Warehouse booze outlet and a huge what locals here call the Stupidstore (Canadian Superstore) sort of our take on Costco but not nearly as good.I love the parking lot story also, contributed by Aarenex I could see Jim skipping threw Wal Mart.....excellent you guys all make me smile, first thing in the morning that is not an easy feat.
I couldn't tell you what our nearest WalMart is like because I don't think we have one. I think we do have a Target though probably about 20 miles from here, haven't been there either. Pretty neat that there are cows within viewing distance of the parking lot though. Hope they don't wind up in the hamburgers!
The walmart that I go to is in the ghetto. When my nephew came to visit me he said, "this is the most black people I have ever seen!" LOL!! Welcome to the south!! LOL!! We have three Wal Marts within 20 minutes of each other. Their is the rich walmart, the ghetto walmart and the more ghetto walmart! LOL!! You know you are in the south when your town has three walmarts!!
It's interesting to hear the comments about Walmart. The founder, Sam Walton, originally started Walmarts in small, out of the way locations and towns. They originally avoided the larger cities. His goal was to bring a wider selection and lower prices to rural areas that normally have to pay higher prices.
Of course, growth came along and even Mr. Sam was amazed at what his original vision became.
We shop at Sam's Club (owned by Walmart) more than Walmart because of the prices. But we also try to support the local small businesses when we can as well.
Dan
The local Wally-worlds 'round these parts are thoroughly industrial. But so are the Targets and K-Marts.
*shrug*
Not much to choose from, betwixt them all. I guess, since it's cheaper still, I'll keep on shopping at Cosco.
Dude, you should check out the people at walmart site. It's a hoot, if you like warped humor.
Any how...
The walmart we go to is in Grants. Can see the women's prison from the front door. No lie. But, there's a huge field between the walmart and that prison.
I think I'd rather see the cows. I'd feel safer. :)
