Another Blast of White

On Wednesday morning I checked the weather reports and the weather folks were calling for another winter storm with significant snowfall. Up here above 7,000ft in the central mountains of New Mexico, we’re used to snowy winters, but we usually get a little reprieve in between snowstorms. I swear, I’ve not seen dirt or grass in over 3 weeks around here. Before our previous snow can melt, another storm blows in and dumps more snow on us.

The irony is, just 25 miles west of us is Albuquerque down in the Rio Grande Valley. They rarely get snow, and when they do it’s usually just a dusting or a few inches. By the next afternoon, their snow melts completely away. They can’t wrap their minds around the fact that if they drive up into the canyon a few thousand feet higher that they might see substantial amounts of snow. Sometimes they drive up here to create a souvenir of snow to take back home with them. (Click on that link. It’s Val’s blog and her post is cute.)

And sometimes when you talk with someone from Albuquerque about how much snow you’ve got and how you might have to reschedule your tax appointment, because you don’t want to drive through white-out blizzard conditions, well, they seem completely surprised and in disbelief, as if you’re still in school and you just told your teacher that your dog ate your homework.

We mountain folks can’t help but giggle when we read our Albuquerque friend's blog and see how excited they are about their little sprinkling of snow. I’m still amazed that the kids’ sleds actually slid at all. But they’re from Arizona, so any little bit of snow is a thrill. (Hey Jenifer! Bring those kids and their sleds up here for some serious snow fun!)

Oh and, Jenifer, do you still want me to bring a goat to your baby shower again? Latte is available, but only if she can have her own dish of Baby Shower Punch.

IMG_7918

And for anyone wondering about that previous statement……..yes I did take a goat to my friend's Baby Shower.

I should have taken a llama. Now that would be fun!

IMG_7915

And my llamas are friendly and house trained, too! (Go ahead. Click on that link. I’ll wait.)

Catlinite says, “See. My Mom told you we llamas are well-mannered house guests”.

Ok, so where was I. I do tend to get side-tracked quite often. Oh yah. By early evening, I looked outside my bedroom balcony glass doors and saw that the snow was falling, and thick, too.

IMG_7850

So I walked to the back of our house and peeked out our loft’s glass doors. Yep, it’s snowing out there, too. (Go ahead. You can roll your eyes. I would, too)

IMG_7851

And then I walked downstairs to the living room, and gazed outside to the pastures and paddocks. Yep, snowing there, too.

(Looks sad out there without a horse, doesn’t it? *sniff*)

Well, looks like those weather folks were right yet again. Either those folks are getting paid better, or they’re just more educated, or their technology has drastically improved. I suppose I should be grateful for correct weather reports, but maybe next time those weather folks tell us we're getting significant snowfall, they could just be a little wrong. I wouldn’t hold it against them, I promise. (hehe)

Anyone care to guess how much snow this storm left on the ground for us? The winner will be chosen from the correct or closest guesses. What do you win? Well, this book, of course:

baxter

Just a note: If you happen to be the winner, you’ll probably want to let me know what size panties you wear, too, and I’ll send you an extra pair. It’s just THAT KIND of book. (hehe!)

I'm trying really hard to not be jealous of your snow! I know, I moved south for a reason, but sometimes a snowbelt girl just needs a little winter in her winter, y'know? Well, at least I don't have to shovel all this rain!

Love that first pic of Catlinite. Llamas have such beautiful eyes.

yes, your climate sounds like ours, we are used to winter but usually get a reprieve here and there occasionally, not this year. Just love that font.

Heck, I live here and I don't even know! Some places, we have 8 inches, and some places, a foot and a half. How much really? Eleven inches?
All I know is I'm getting tired of it. I got stuck in my own driveway with my little car this morning.

Beautiful snow photos! When I visited family in Arizona, we drove up Lemon Mountain to see the snow. Kids driving down were throwing snowballs at the cars going up. It was so weird to go from cactus and desert to pine trees and snow.

Wow Lisa, you got more snow than us but our snow is very wet heavy snow and our power is out! We have a big generator, that is now powering the house so I am able to be on the Internet.
Power has been off for 7 hours and don't know when we will get it back on. Thank heavens I have a man that knows how to run generators and run power to the house!!!
Love the pictures and videos!
keep warm!!!
hugs....
Jane

The llams are funny. The word Alberqurque is funny. Did I spell that right? I'm delirious from too much snow and no nicotine.

I am not envying you at all right now! That snow would have been cute for the first 24 hours, not anymore. Love the photos though, great shots.
