Enough Already!!!!

It started yesterday afternoon…….

IMG_8919

Do you see Apache in the barn?

IMG_8914

Poor Apache. The day after dealing with all that dentistry and vaccination stuff, she has to deal with wind, cold and snow. And I can’t even be up there with her to keep her company for fear I might fall again. bah!

IMG_8916

Yesterday was the first day that the chickens’ coop was completely snow-free in weeks.

That didn’t last long. sigh.

IMG_8900

Everyone keeps telling me that Spring is here or is on it’s way.

This is what greeted me when I looked out the windows this morning. The view onto my bedroom balcony.

IMG_8922

In my world, it sure is difficult to imagine that Spring is here or is on it’s way.

The view up to the barn from my bathroom window.

IMG_8920

The view looking down from my daughter’s bedroom. Poor chickens will be stuck inside today.

IMG_8924 .

The view out onto our loft balcony. Another heavy, wet snow. The folks who had dried up wells last summer, should be much happier this year.

IMG_8925

I gimped downstairs to let Dobbie outside and go potty. This is the view out the front door. Yeh. It’s pretty. I’m just glad that our peach and apple trees haven’t bloomed yet. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of this winter/spring season. A couple years ago, everything had bloomed in our orchard and then we got hit by a Memorial Day hail and snow storm. You just never know what the weather will bring up here.

IMG_8928

Dobbie girl is not a winter weather pooch. She goes outside to do her business and then wants right back in. Tucked under the blankets, plastered against my side like a second-skin, is where she prefers to be.

IMG_8926

Poor chickens personify the term: “All Cooped Up”

IMG_8930

I know many folks are planning and preparing their gardens. Some lucky ones are even planting, burying their hands into dark, rich, earth.

Around here, the plants are just trying to stay upright under all the weight.

IMG_8931

It’s ironic that a couple months ago, my 3 kidlets were out in this little backyard building a snowman. I remember as a child, growing up in California and then Maryland, how excited I was when it snowed. All my kidlets talk about now is when will summer be here, so they can play outside without shoes and heavy coats. They get up in the morning, look out the window at the snow-covered ground and say, “Not again”.

Humor is good at a time like this.

I’m grateful that Ranchman John is home now to take care of all the critters for us, but Jenna and I miss going to the barn and hanging out, too.

I wonder if Apache misses us, too.

Not all of this year’s snow falls left behind significant precipitation. Some were just light flurries with no accumulation on the ground. But still…….

Oh, and yes, it’s still snowing. The weather folks promise us that we can expect more snowfall throughout the day and into Sunday……..hooray.

Oh no, not more snow! We seem to get the leftovers of whatever you guys get hit with, and even though it's supposed to hit the 70s here today, I wouldn't be surprised if we got hit with another snowstorm in the near future. All the rain has been bad enough!

There is always something good to look at, in this case, the moisture is going to make your corner of the high desert absolutely verdant and busting at the seams with growth ....soon...I hope.....

Oh, my, and I was amazed at our 2.5" accumulation yesterday! I do hope you, Jenna and Apache get outside...I imagine your twinlets don't stay inside much?

Liss, so sorry for this delay in better weather..those stats are amazing !
I hope that because the weather is crap, you can be mobile, without feeling the need to do too much, if the weather was much nicer you may!
Sorry...trying' to find a positive.
Your mare will eat better now with her float..and Hurray on the results...riding is coming ahead. You heal up sweet friend.

We even got some snow on our side of the mountain -- about 2 + inches. The sun has come out and it's melting rapidly and will be gone by this evening.

PS: Spring started 18 minutes ago.

Argg, you snow migrated over here to my house too! I got up this morning to snow and goat that was having difficulties kidding. Lost both the kid and doe. And the snow on top of that.

Spring. I was spring and life and growth, and all that good stuff!

I hate to rub it in, but that snow storm skipped us mostly dumped a dusting and blew on east to you guys. I'm glad we missed it, sorry you have to deal with it. I'm sick of snow also.

Right there with you Lisa! High 60's here in Cincinnati today, we are supposed to get snow tomorrow....

My tulip tree is budding out, I sure hope we don't get freezing rain ...

At least your snow goes away in between snow days. I'm looking at snow that has been here since October!

I didn't like that my chickens never got out of the coop in the winter. When we built the sheep addition onto the horse barn I moved the coop so that the front of the coop was the side of the barn. (Does that make sense?) The chicken door then opened into a 12x12x6 chainlink pen inside the barn. The chickens love it! The floor is sawdust that I refresh every month or so and I throw their COB for them to dig and scratch.

I hate to rub salt in the wound, but it's 70 degrees right now. A beautiful first day of Spring. Poor Apache, she looks lost without her playmates.

Wow. All I can say is Not here. I guess it's always a shooting match at that altitude. Well I hope it goes away soon.

I almost, almost hate to tell you but I worked in my water garden today! Bare footed and short sleeves!

But we do have cold and possible snow coming in later.

Finally got the perfect horse and the weather won't cooperate.

It won't be long and we will be talking about the heat.

Leah Fry said...

All we got was rain, but dang it's COLD! The horses have been running around all day, probably just to keep warm. Oklahoma City, 150 miles north of us was predicted to get 10" of snow, but I don't know if it happened. First day of spring my foot!

jane augenstein said...

Oh no more snow!!! It's been pretty nice here for the whole week. I hope it stays that way. I heard earlier in the week that snow was predicted but it didn't happen, so glad of that!
Well, maybe when the snow melts your knee will be all better and you can get outside!!!
That's no fun though cause you just got your beautiful new horse and can't get out to hang out with her.
Hoping that warm breezes come blowing in soon!! :-D

Um...you may not want to read my yesterday's post until you thaw out. Yes, I'll bet Apache does miss you. "Where's that nice lady who keeps watch while I nap, and paid for my pretty teeth?"

I tried to read your blog at work today, and the corporate filter censored it as--get this--PORN! Lol, you're too sexy for the internet!

Rats. It's lousy over here too. No snow, but 45 and gusty winds that make the trees dance erratically.

We had a beautiful Spring day today, however, it's forecasted to make a drastic change. We you get Spring Fever, you don't want it to snow on your parade.

That's too bad that it just won't get over it's self and go away!!! Poor kidlets must have huge cabin fever pangs!

LOL... well, I did just tell you in my email that you deserve more complainer's rights about snow... and I see you've fully exercised those rights. How funny! Not funny that you have snow, but funny that I have ESP.

Wow, your LAST snowfall of the season comes pretty late, doesn't it? That rather sucks. For your sake, I hope the end is in sight, and not far off somewhere in May!!!

Unknown said...

Hang in there! The seasons will change...winter can't last forever! :)

Andrea said...

Uhg!! You need to move closer to me!! It's warm here....well until we get your cold front!! ha ha ha! It's actually going to get pretty chilly tonight! Even though it's annoying, it sure makes for pretty pictures!

Seriously!! ENOUGH already!! My goodness I would go insane with that much snow LOL!! We have just had another snow storm over the last 24 hrs and I HATE it!! I hope you get some Spring soon!!!

Michele said...

We had a snow fall the other day but it did not stick.
In some ways, I envy you and I know that sounds silly but we had such a poor poor winter up here in our mountains for the first time in years.
It was cold but so little snow pack and it means the summer will be dangerous. Dry timbers, high risk of forest fires, the animals will suffer, etc. sigh...

I sure hope this white stuff will end for you soon and Spring will come out... it is obvious you deserve it!!!

Hugs

Wow, that is depressing for the first day of spring! That is a lot of snow. It is chilly here, but at least there is no snow on the ground.

It's suppose to be in the 70's today. But just so you know I'm not rubbing your nose in it, it's suppose to snow tomorrow. Bla

that's a lot of snow!! We are getting snow in AR - strange for us. They are calling it a spring blizzard. Nothing loke the blizzards I've lived through in CO!!Walking in snow past my knees! Having to stay 3 nights and days at work without a change of clothes or a shower - becaue we couldn't get home - nor could anyone else get to work to releive us!!

We have only 8 inches so far... but still snowing..

I don't want to tell you how beautiful it's been here. Okay, I've been weeding, and I got mulch, if that says anything.

I'll be glad when this winter is over too. Enough Already is exactly how I feel.

It's a good thing Apache has spots or she wouldn't show up in some of those pics.
