And all through the house, our family was playing, sleeping, decompressing, and recuperating from the busy holiday.
Yeah, we’re a little nutty around here. It’s my twinlings’ fault. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
~~~~~~~~
My Dad(D) and Stepmom(SM) arrived a day earlier than expected and it all began from there.
SM had heard through the grapevine that burning sage was a really great thing to do. Of course, after the mayhem a few months ago, caused by my horse overeating sage, the thought of burning sage around my house had obviously never occurred to me. But it was important to SM, so within 30 minutes of arriving at our home, she asked for us to take her outside and help her harvest some sage…….
SM was very excited about the sage. But Jax, not so much.
So we all tried to humor her…….But Jax, not so much.
We were mostly worried she might burn the house down. (We took video, but it needs to be rotated and uploaded first)
D is allergic to cats, so D and SM stayed in a nice hotel just down the road in Moriarty. Jen was very excited about their temporary digs because the hotel has a heated indoor pool.
Jen spent many hours swimming in that pool on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We had the entire pool to ourselves.
I even joined her on Christmas Eve for a few hours.
But after doing handstands, flips and countless laps to entertain my daughter and have some fun, I’ve come to the realization that I don’t swim the same way at 44 yrs old that I did when I was a kidlet.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening feeling dizzy and nauseous like my equilibrium was all mixed up. But I still had to assemble a bike, finish wrapping gifts, set up the gifts and Santa surprises (footprints and milk & cookies) for Jen, and prepare the traditional overnight Holiday French Toast.
Physically, the swimming was a great work-out and my muscles felt relaxed the next day, which was good because the day started at 6:30am and was full of excitement for my kidlets!
They only had a few items on their Christmas gift list and we were so happy to be able to give them everything they asked for.
I also choose our kidlets one special ornament each year that relates to their interests, or something that happened to them that year. Jax got a kick (pun intended) from the ornament I chose for him. (Remember Bucking Bella?)
Ranchman John is quite fond of his John Deere tractor.
Jen is quite fond of her chickens.
Santa even gave her a second ornament this year.
And one for me, too!
Jem has always had a thing for trees. His favorite book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. This past summer we were hiking on a trail surrounded by a forest of Aspen, and he was truly moved by their incredible beauty.
And a couple of surprises were sent all the way from my dear friend, Debi who is living in Thailand. (And thank you Sydney Bitless. Jem likes the shirt you sent)
Jax & Jem hung the Thai masks in their room and insisted on placing rubber snakes inside them.
Jen likes her pretty Thai doll.
And the rest of the day they spent playing and having fun with their new gifts.
Jen had an old dilapidated Big Wheel that was over 3 years old and even though she is too big for a Big Wheel now (sure wish they made them bigger, though), Jen insisted that was what she wanted this year. She has trouble with coordination and pedaling, so that wasn’t an issue anyway, but she loves to ride it around the chicken coop to play with her chickens while feeding bread and treats to her flock. So, Santa brought Jen another Big Wheel and she is extremely happy.
Even Ranchman John received exactly what he asked for, and is already immersed in his new book.
And the Overnight Holiday French Toast, made with cranberries, raisins, and fruit from our own apple trees, and fresh eggs from our chickens, was a big success.
Mmmmmm!
I only make it once a year so it remains a special family tradition.
All in all a wonderful Christmas holiday and a nice visit by my Dad and Stepmom.
And my Dobbie girl looks a lot like how I’m feeling today. (Yawn….)
Looks like you guys had a really great two days. I'm glad you're parents were able to make it, that is fun for the kids.
How cute that your daughter likes big wheels. G rode his even after he could ride his bike without training wheels. My husband finally threw it away because he said he was too big for it, but I'm betting if he still had it he would be riding it!
I love the ornament idea!
Okay, I tried to resist, but I can't... "You'll put your eye out, kid."
My brother and I shared a bee-bee gun while growing up and most of the bee-bees ended up embedded in my butt. I had a very sadistic brother.
I enjoy pics and reading about others holidays and their traditions. Everybody looks happy at your cozy home.
Oh, your Dances with Wolves music just came on, beautiful.
A friend suggested adding sunflower seeds to the broccoli salad, the added crunch would be good.
Looks like you all had a great Holiday!!!
So cute! What a wonderful holiday for everyone. I love the picture of your daughter holding her toy horse, mostly because of your son's face in the background :) That must have been some present he was unwrapping!
The chicken ornaments are adorable - I think I could do a whole tree in chickens!
Thanks Stef! I'm so glad you noticed the details of that photo of Jen with Jax in the background!You just made me laugh right out loud!
Do you know what present her opened?
A package of socks!!!
LOL!
Jax is such a character. He can make anything funny, that boy of mine. :D
ps I'd love a tree covered in chicken related ornaments, too!
Geep!
I meant to type "HE" not "Her" Jax won't let me live that down if I don't mention it. lol!
What a wonderful Christmas !!!! I still have, and use, my Daisy BB Gun that I got when I was around 13 yrs old !!!
I'd LOVE to go swimming right now, especially since it was a whole 28 degree's with about 8 inches of snow on the ground. Maybe I'll have to check into a hotel just for the pool =)
Okay...I thought I posted a comment about 30 minutes ago, but I just found it (blank) or at least a blank comment box/window underneath the blog window (Does that even make any sense?) LOL
So...I am thinking that Blogger ate my comment??? Anyway, I said something like it looked like you had a great Christmas, and that your kidlets were looking REALLY grown-up. If you got the comment, great (and you don't have to post this one), but if you didn't, here it is...kinda! : )
Looks like a fun Christmas. I was sad I did not have more of those shirts. A friend of mine gave it to me from the 2010 Olympics because she worked at Zellers and they were a promotional item for staff. I wish I could have sent more. Who knows someday you might get more Canada items in the mail, just saying :P
Hello Lisa,
I'm glad you had a Merry Christmas!
I just wanted to thank you for posting the information on your hay net way back when...I made one for Daisy and just linked back to yours in my post.
Thanks again,
~Mellimaus
Looks like a wonderful holiday was had by all! I love the ornaments!
What a wonderful few days you had! Thank you for sharing with us! =)
I love your chicken ornaments. We have one of our own for our tree, but I haven't been able to find any more locally.
We too add a new ornament or two each year. This year my daughter chose a dog hugging a cat ornament. It is fitting since the cats have embraced the new dog with such love and affection.
I haven't been swimming in years. I loved to swim when I was younger and could stay in the pool for hours on end. Now I'm afraid I would just sink to the bottom of the pool and someone would have to jump in and save me. LOL
Have fun relaxing and decompressing! =)
It looks like you had a fabulous Christmas! Love the ornaments! That is such an excellent idea.
Your french toast looked delish!
Have a wonderful New Year!!
My son didn't have a big wheel - his was something called a Green Machine (they have them in pink now too). Similar concept but like your Jen, he LOVED that thing and drove it around until he was WAY too big for it too. He also had this pedal race car - he was working on it last week at 13.5 years old trying to figure out a way to weigh down the front so he could ride in it again without doing wheelies.
Also noticed Jen on the exercise ball opening presents - my son sat on ours opening his presents all morning long! I love for him to use that, especially in the early mornings when he's such a live wire.
Great Christmas pics - glad you family had such a wonderful holiday.
Looks like you all had a great time. That's very cool.
We have always gotten special ornaments every Christmas and now there's barely any room left on our tree but I'm sure we'll keep right on with our tradition. It's so cool to be decorating and even undecorating the tree and thinking about the stories behind each one.
That french toast looks very nummy.
That french toast looks awfully good! Although I'm feeling a bit weepy about my son being gone again, I enjoyed seeing how much fun your family was having.
It's been a while since I have had a chance to sit down and read my favorite blogs. I am so glad I started with yours! Thank you, by the way, for the comments you leave me! I throughly enjoyed the recounting of your family Christmas and your photos. Family and love are truly what makes Christmas such a cherished time, I think.
Looks like you all had fun! I'm glad. You need to post that recipe for the french bread. lol
It looks like everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!
Beautiful photos! Your kids are growing up so fast. Thank you for sharing your Christmas holiday celebrations with us. Made me almost feel like I was there with you. Those special ornaments are adorable.
