Our lovely Ameracauna hen Fertile Myrtle is back to work from her winter laying hiatus.
She has given us many large eggs over the last 3 1/2 years. Many of them were double-yolkers and quite a few more were even triple-yolkers.
A few times she’s even given us two eggs on the same day. She deserves a winter egg-laying vacation, because Fertile Myrtle does everything big when it comes to egg production.
Like this Gigantor egg she laid this weekend.
Jen couldn’t even wrap her hand around this grenade of protein packed goodness.

Gigantor Egg wouldn’t fit in the egg carton with all of it’s diminutive friends, which meant we had only one choice…..
A destiny of sunny-side up, 'drippy' eggs on toast. mmmm!
Factory Farmed eggs look nothing at all like this.
And taste nothing at all like these beautiful, bright orange pillows of healthy yumminess.

I do believe Myrtle must have some ostrich in her. That is one big egg!
Ouch! With my citie's 4 chicken maximum, 4 might be enough if they all laid like that!
Did you give her some pain killers afterward? Perhaps an episiotomy? Just kidding.
Yesterday, I brought I basket of hard-boiled eggs to the office, unbelievable the feedback about how GOOD and DELICIOUS the eggs were. I don't know how anyone get eat a farm-fresh egg and then turn back to store-bought factory eggs. We occasionally get a Gigantor egg like yours.
Way to go Myrtle. Fried egg on toast is my favorite breakfast - especially with some smoked sausage or bacon to accompany them.

WOW! That is one extra-large egg!!! Ouch...poor hen doesn't look big enough to lay a monster egg like that! She is a lovely hen as well, beautiful coloring. We have one Americana hen left in our flock. She is going on 9 years old now but still gives us eggs on a fairly regular bases when she is laying. We have gotten a few bantam eggs recently, but nothing from the big girls yet.

I also wanted to say your post with Sage and Barred Rock Betty was adorable. I loved the changing expressions and postures on both of them. Do the chickens come right in if you open the door wide enough, or are they a little nervous?
Also, on the Sunday stills post, I assume thirteen other people already said this, but the peacock photo was spectacular! Glad you found a good opportunity to share it with us.

Great looking eggs! I love my Auraccanas(sp)! But my lay blue or green eggs. Is your hen crossed with something else?

I've seen double yolkers from the hens my mom used to have but...TRIPLE? That's crazy! I LOVE the pic of the egg in the carton with the normal sized eggs.
Beautiful egg, and I agree with you that there's nothing like farm fresh eggs. But, owwwwwww, that had to hurt!

Ouch! Poor girl, that one must have hurt. She sure is living up to her name. :) And I totally agree about farm fresh eggs. There is nothing like them.
