I was at the grocery store yesterday and something happened that both annoyed me and cracked me up all at the same time.
This is a true story.
And it involves Little Chickens.
As I was walking past a deep freezer bin, I saw two children under 9 years old tossing around frozen packages of Cornish Game Hens.
Their discombobulated Mother was preoccupied with selecting cheese for her family and didn’t seem to notice her little hoodlums playing a game of catch with the frozen meat.
The older child, a girl of about 9 kept saying, “Look Mom! Little Chickens!” as she tossed the rock solid frozen meat across the deep freezer bin.
Finally after about the 3rd or 4th time, the exhausted Mother, looking as if she had just returned from milking a cow and making her own cheese, finally acknowledged her creatively athletic offspring tossing the frozen birds and said, “Stop that! Leave the chickens alone!” and then with an audible sigh, turned her weary shoulders to focus on the pressing need for cheese once again.
I continued walking past, trying not to laugh out loud, as both kids tried to revive their cheese traumatized Mother by continuing to toss the poor frozen birds around the freezer bin and thoroughly enjoying their entertaining game while calling out,
“Look Mom! It’s Little Chickens!”

Those kids were just playing a little game of chicken. That's it! Cornish Game Hens for supper Sunday night! Thanks for the great suggestion. BTW, I love your new masthead with it's intention.
I've never tasted one of the little game hens. Maybe I've been missing out of something. I loved this post! :)
Did you actually take a picture of the lady in the market or is that something you got off the Internet? I know that cell phones can allow you to be sly in snapping off photos in public places, but I can't imagine you pulling a full sized camera out of your purse and photographing a stranger in the market. However, if you did do that, it's high time you fly out here again and give me some lessons on my neighbors.
No. I don't carry my camera into the grocery store....perhaps I should!
All photos in this post were borrowed off the internet.

LOL! After that I will choose them from the bottom of the pile! LOL LOL
Cornish game hens are not game birds at all, but cornish meat chickens butchered when they are about 3lbs on the foot! LOL So they are the same chicken you buy by the piece or whole. Not a lot of people know that. Just FYI LOL.
I love your illustrations! I was really getting sucked into that first cheese picture, when I noticed...two of them are from Neal's Yard Dairy! We visited them during our London trip! I was just recently telling friends about it, and had to dig up my photos to email them.
Anyway...LOL! :)
Too bad they did not find the 20pound turkeys first..:-)
That is hilarious! That poor, tired mom. But now she knows what to buy her kids for Christmas...a frozen "little chicken" and a catcher's mask.
LOL! Too funny! Now I will think of the "Little Chicken" game every time I see a package of cornish game hens! A friend of my daughter's actually went "turkey" bowling in Walmart one time...20 pound turkey rolling down an isle into a row of cans. Needless to say he got booted out of the store!
It's the little things like that that make grocery shopping just a bit more tolerable. As I sit here laughing at that poor Mom. Been there done that! I love your header picture by the way! It says "Cozy" to me.
