Cerillos Hills Trail Ride

Another wonderful place to ride in all seasons, except maybe the middle of summer, is Cerillos Hills State Park, about 45 minutes from my house.

I hauled my horse to the trailhead along with two other riding buddies.

And we headed out....

The trails are easy to ride but not boring. Lots of rolling hills, gentle terrain and beautiful scenery.

There are signs to stop and read to learn more about the history and geology of the area.

And there are a lot of abandoned, old mines to explore.

Like I said, the trails are never boring.

Riding up and down the hills is lots of fun.

My riding buddies seemed to be enjoying the trails, too.

When we found some logs to sit on, we tied up our horses and stopped for lunch.

Peek A Boo!

And then we continued on.....

The views out towards the Ortiz and Sandia Mountains are always amazing!

Gorgeous vistas in every direction!

I just had to capture this moment on my camera.

Apache and I like to stop and enjoy the views, too.

The trail twists and turns and winds around the hills as it travels towards a narrow, rocky canyon.

Almost there......

Apache and I leading the way through the small canyon of rock walls.

After exiting the canyon, there are steps to ride down...fun!

And then we ride the roads back to the parking area.

Great ride! Life is good!
