Getting to Know You

I found out this morning that my neighbor friend finally started her own blog. I'm so excited, even though I fear I may have corrupted her into traveling the slippery slope of blogging. It truly can be addictive. But it's also a great place to record your thoughts, ideas, and experiences and share them with others. I have learned so much from those that have been-there-done-that and have even developed friendships along the way. What a pleasant surprise!

So without furthur ado, please welcome fellow horse and critter owner, music lover and new blogger, and also my friend on her new blog:
Fantasyk Voyage.

On her first post she decided to do one of those getting to know you thingies and I think it's a terrific idea, so I'm going to play along, too.

About myself: I've been a stay-at-home Mom ever since I gave birth to my twin sons 11years ago. Before that I worked for the airlines, which is where I met my husband. I have 3 children and I am proud of myself that all of them were brought into this world via natural childbirth. And even my daughter, who weighed in at 11 pounds 12 ounces was delivered without any pain meds. I truly had amazing and beautiful birth experiences. And my very supportive and loving husband and I just celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary, and this year I turn 42 yrs old.

On our ranch we have quite a menagerie of critters, including 1 horse, 1 dog, 2 indoor cats, 2 outdoor cats, 4 guinea pigs, 17 chickens, 5 koi fish, 3 angora goats, 1 nigerian goat, 1 mini-mancha, 1 Boer mix, 1 churro sheep, 1 karakul sheep, 2 llamas, and a 1 nesting pair of barn swallows.

And here's one of those 'getting-to-know-you' copy and paste questionaires that will shed a little bit of light on who I am. Ironically I have never yet been asked to complete one of those '6 things to know about me' thingies. I have no idea how I've escaped, but I'l make up for it now.

1. Favorite actors/actresses? Hugh Laurie, Johnny Depp, Viggo Mortensen, Laura Hutton, Susan Sarandon, Sandra Bullock, Sean Connery

5. Sports? hiking, watching lacrosse, horse riding.

6. Favorite sounds? birds, running water, wind in the ponderosa trees, silence

Why is our ranch named "Laughing Orca Ranch" when we live in the southwest, nowhere near where Orcas reside?
Find out why by reading my very first blog post in September 2006:
Why Laughing Orca?

Wow, it's amazing reading about someone from my generation (although you are a couple years younger than me). My first car (that wasn't my parents') was a 1978 orange Mercury Bobcat, which was the exact same thing as a Pinto. I literally looked like I was rolling down the street in an orange. Did you ever see the scene with the Pinto in the movie Top Secret? That really makes me laugh hard.

Thanks for the welcome!

You have a LOT of critters. I just don't know how you can keep up with them all AND a husband AND 3kids! Kudus to you!

Interesting bits of info there, thanks! I also love Journey (seen them twice) and ELO too.

When you bought Dolly and told me you had an orca horse, I wondered at first, then I understood. :)

It's always fun to read these and learn more about people. For instance, I didn't know you have koi. I love them!

& your daughter weighed almost 12 pounds when born? Makes me hurt just thinking about it!

It was great to learn more about you. I am impressed with your birthing abilities. I might need you in my support group when I eventually get around to having children! ;)
My father had the coolest koi, but he left them w/the pond when they sold their last house. He'd raised them from babies (are fish called babies?) and they were large and would eat out of your hand. They were pretty expensive guys, too.
Thanks for introducing us to your new friend's blog, I will hop on over there right now!

The thought of a twelve pound baby makes me hurt too.

I think it's nice that you introduced your neighbor as for corrupting her to blogging, I think that's probably good too. lol

I'm so glad I found your blog--we're almost alike! I recognize your Aracauna chicken on your header--we have several of them. I really like your dog too! Check out my blog to see my guard-rooster, Sir John Middleton. Do goats eat weeds out of your pasture? I am considering getting one if he will eat the weeds...

Glad to meet you!

Hi nice to meet you.
Found you via pony girl. My first car was a 76 ford pinto hatch back with wood trim, I called it Thumper and the guy I sold it to still has it!!!
As for blankets I like the Wethabetta's,Amigos and Rambos, they all seem to be very good quality I have gotten 3 seasons on them and should at least get one more. Really check sizes as they all run different.
Good luck and I love your Orca girl

NM,
I'm picturing you in your orange bobcat and it's totally cracking me up and reminds me of when my Dad took me out car shopping and I wasn't too sure about the green pinto statin wagon with fake wood sides.
He said, "Sit in it". Then he asked, "Does it feel green with fake wood sides?"
hahah
It sort of worked, sort of....

Hey Rockin' Horse,
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. Cool! I had fun doing the "Getting to Know you' thing and felt I learned a few new things about you, too.
I look forward to getting to know you better over the next few years.

Hi Rural Writer!
Well, we sort of have koi. Some might call them very large goldfish, I suppose. I really don't know how to tell the difference, actually.
But they came with our house, an were kept in a large stock tank. We got rid of the rusty stock tank and moved the koi into a pre-formed pond beside the house.
Do you also have koi or a pond?

Hey Pony Girl,
I'd love to be there for you. Just let me know! I had a fabulous Doula who was there for me to give me support and be my go-between with the nurses and Drs. It also freed up my husband from worrying and not knowing just what I needed.
I thoroughly recommend a Doula for anyone planning on giving birth.

Oh and my Koi were also left behind with the house, like your Dad. My hubby really likes them and has worked hard at providing them a comfy home. haha

Hi Rising Rainbow,
Really it wasn't all that bad. My daughter was a very long baby, not large with a big head, so she basically slid out and it was amazing to feel that happen and have control over my birthing experience.
I know you'll like my neaighbor friend. She's been reading some of the same favorite blogs I've been reading for a while now and I'm glad that she finally decided to jump in and enjoy this wonderful people in the blog world.

Hi Netherfield Mom,
So nice of you to stop by and visit my blog! It's great that we seem to have some things in common, too. Yes, the goats do eat some of the weeds, but they seem to favor brushy weeds over grassy ones.
I'll be chcking out your blog soon. Can;t wait to see your roo!

Hi 20Meter!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can't wait to read your blog, too.
Great name for your pinto. Mine was named "The War Wagon'. And I don't even remember why! hahah
Thanks also for the tips on horse blankets. I really appreciate it.
